On December 8th, 2017, the 80 strong Welsh Choir, The Morriston Orpheus Choir made the journey from Swansea to Ely, Cambridgeshire to perform alongside The Band of The Household Cavalry.
The first song of the evening was Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, more commonly recognised as the Welsh National Anthem.
The sound filled the cathedral and voices reverberated all the way along the Nave.
The evening raised funds for The Household Cavalry Foundation
From a Scotsman, the best anthem in the world. So emotional, lump in the throat time.

I am the from England and I find this so stirring especially at the Gwlad gwlad moment, and you my Scots friend have the wonderful Flower O' Scotland, while we have to put up with sharing a national anthem with you lot and Liechtenstein.
Must be one of the loveliest anthems in the world , 👍
Beautiful! The Welsh are famous for their singing.

Just love this Anthem
If there was a world cup for anthems Wales would be unbeatable. Truly awesome powerful rendition.
As a Scot, my second favourite National Anthem for obvious reasons. I sing along as close as I can.
I am so proud to be British. From the valleys of Wales , from the Scottish lochs and mountains, to that lovely Northern Irish accent, from Big Ben that rings the hour across the world, they are part of me, and you. Together we represent all that is good in the world, forgive our mistakes and quietly reflect upon our triumphs. We have fought the darkest enemy and will do so again if called. We have died on foreign soils but our souls .
@@josgroot6786 They didn't succeed in taking the souls or language of the Welsh. They tried their best. Both my paternal and maternal grandparents all spoke Welsh, it was my parents who missed out, because if they spoke Welsh in school, they were punished. Mind you they used a lot of Welsh words, which I picked up , unfortunately I was born in England, due to the closing of the pits in the nineteen thirties. I was born in 1938. So I've had My DNA tested (because my son insisted that I'm English. I'm ,70% Welsh 19% Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, 9% Irish, 2% doesn't matter. My antecedents didn't travel very far 😀 I tried to learn to speak Welsh when I was young, not realising that North and South have different languages, I'd go to one grandmother who would tell me that I was saying something wrong and vis a vers. It mixed me up. I did get one and sixpence though for. learning Llanfairp.
Awesome, the best anthem ever! And I am not even Welsh.
I just love the way they all stood up. Tears in my eyes!!
como descendiente de galeses en la patagonia, ésta canción me llega a lo más profundo de mi ser

Greetings from Sweden,Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" (Welsh pronunciation: [heːn wlɑːd və n̥adaɪ̯]) is the national anthem of Wales.[1] The title - taken from the first words of the song - means "Old Land of My Fathers" in Welsh, usually rendered in English as simply "Land of My Fathers". The words were written by Evan James and the tune composed by his son, James James, both residents of Pontypridd, Glamorgan, in January 1856.[1][2] The earliest written copy survives and is part of the collections of the National Library of Wales.[2]
Thank you for the information.🏴🏴🏴

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed.

Best anthem in the world
So proud to be welsh
The best national anthem , but I might be biased
The khasi tribe in Meghalaya northeast india have the same anthem like welsh only the language is different its the best anthhem in the world u can search khasi anthem in youtube
There are far better versions on you tube, especially at Cardiff, when Wales play England at rugby.
How lucky are the Welsh to have their own anthem. Why cannot we in England have our own anthem? Maybe Land o& Hope and Glory? I love the Royal Family but a NATIONAL anthem should be about the nation, not the reigning head.

Funny only 20 % of the Welsh speak the Language. We're EVERYWHERE
A rather germanic rendition of the Welsh anthem to be honest
Prince William did not rise and stand up. Why? M. Nik.
maybe people should forget about those assholes and focus on making england a great nation.
Because he's an assholes.
Because it is not a national anthem, Waales is not a nation
@@JimWalsh-rl5dj You are quite correct. " Waales " is most definitely NOT a nation, but Wales is.
Im pretty certain Prince William wasn't there. That's probably why.
Surprised to see an English Band Stand for another Countries Anthem. I only stand for the Australian and Scots National Anthems, no others.
then you are an ignorant twit
Then you Donny Barnett are an ignorant prick, and you can fuck off back to Scotland.
The English despite what some people think do view Wales as an equal part of the UK. We'd be lost without them.
The choir's bass section is too light.
It's like a german oompa band without a tuba.
I am proud to be a german and our anthem, but this one of the greatest i habe ever heard god bless your country.
Not the best version I have heard
@@pauldoherty5953 I agree, it was very underwhelming. There are far better examples on you tube, particularly match days when Wales play rugby.
The anthem is best sung by a male voice choir. No need for a brass band!@@pauldoherty5953
@@pauldoherty5953 The timing is all over the place. It can't have been easy in such a reverberant building, but it would have helped if the choir had followed the conductor a little more closely.

Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, is therefore a national anthem.
@@PaulJones-br6uv Wales is not a country laddie
The Welsh National Anthem is the British Anthem. Wales is not a country and there cannot have a national anthem
lordmick roach. As a PROUD WELSHMAN (Born in Wales and will properly die in Wales) how dare you say Wales is not a Country and as has been for many thousands of years and will be a Country till the end of time and my advice to you is never come to Wales and say things like that.
@@bobaxe6197 Sorry to disillusion you laddie but Wales is NOT a country, it is a principality. Big difference
lordmick roach Think you should do a bit of homework Wales is recognised as a country I think you should get your facts straight and our flag is welsh, not British and can't think of anyone outside wales unless they are welsh can sing the Welsh anthem. Think you should attend school again and learn instead of sucking lollypops
@@JimWalsh-rl5dj Sorry to disillusion you but you are factually incorrect. Principality's are still country's you moron.
@@JimWalsh-rl5dj The Principality of Wales (which never covered the whole of Wales) ended in 1540s.
Anyway, If Wales was a principality, which I remind you it is not, it would still be a country. Andorra, Monaco and Liechtenstein are all Principalities. Luxemburg is a Grand Dutchy a royal rank lower again. Being a country is separate from the monarchical or governance structures within the country.
