It's because he's clearly lived such a provincial and media-conditioned life that he has never had to seriously consider alternative views, so the idea that the law would have to treat those with the same value as his own soon becomes a panic-inducing threat to his entire internalised belief system, which he had privileged as beyond all others without even understanding that he does as much, and that it might even make _him_ wrong to do as much. Cornered with this unacceptable outcome, he would prefer to hide behind authoritarian violence, as he is totally inequipped to re-evaluate his own opinions. There was no other alternative content or critical thinking that allowed him to ever leave that circle. @@PunishedRalph Your claim was addressed pretty well by James. If it's a breach of the peace to be a republican in the presence of monarchists, why isn't it a breach of the peace to be a monarchist in the presence of republicans? It's because he's clearly lived such a provincial and media-conditioned life that he has never had to seriously consider alternative views, so the idea that the law would have to treat those with the same value as his own soon becomes a panic-inducing threat to his entire internalised belief system, which he had privileged as beyond all others without even understanding that he does as much, and that it might even make _him_ wrong to do as much.
Cornered with this unacceptable outcome, he would prefer to hide behind authoritarian violence, as he is totally inequipped to re-evaluate his own opinions.
