I think you may need to rethink the time-line. In order to retire, buy the bus now and get repairs completed. You can then plan interior work. This way you aren't wasting retirement time fixing up a bus.

As an old bus mechanic down here in South Australia, I love your work and dedication to the clients and their buses. I am so appreciative of the way you describe and film almost all your work.
I once thought I was the only mechanic that wrapped shafts etc into a freezer overnight so as they would fit.
I am now 76 and can’t get enough of your work. I watch a new episode each night and starting to run out.
    Thankyou

btw Scott, i hope one day you could do a Vintage Bus Recommendation video series, where you go over some of the various more common vintage busses people buy and the pros/cons of them etc, mechanically and otherwise....probably be brutal for you to find the time for a separate series while filming hands on repairs n everything else etc. best rgds.

Loved this video. 1992, I went to drive on a line (to Montreal, Qc. Think road salt in winter), we had 6 MC9s. The mechanic who took care of them let me around when I was curious. I still have a shop manual he gave me.
They were not new anymore, so seeing what that looks like on your video, brings back memories.
    Again, loved it.

I’ve always wanted a diesel pusher motorhome. Thought a conversion of a used bus might be a good way to accomplish that dream. But I’m 66 yrs old and have some health issues which would preclude my taking on the conversion. And after watching your channel for some months, the repair and maintenance of the mechanical side no longer seems attractive. That’s despite my long-time repair work on the family cars. So now I watch your videos out of curiosity rather than as a learning tool.
I can not believe the incompetence and outright laziness of some of the mechanics who’ve worked on buses before you see them. However unlikely it may be for me to obtain a bus, I know one thing: first trip in it I’d drive from Utah to Tennessee so you could help me bring the bus up to snuff. Might require some babying, depending on what was wrong with it. But you and your son have impressed me with your commitment to proper repairs-not slap-dash, push it out the door as fast as we can regardless. I sincerely hope your business model works. Oh, and regarding the tool cost misunderstanding, I hope your wife Kelly eventually decided the couch wasn’t the best sleeping platform for your bad back😉. My wife and I just celebrated 40 years together. Odd how those purchase prices are misunderstood.😇 My own halo slips from time to time.

Love watching the work on this MCI. As for Tiger Tool's, they are the best you can get which comes with a premium price tag. I know because I too use Tiger Tool's for working on my semi-truck. They save a boat load of work, time, and effort to do the job right. The big C-clamps are superb and I've had no trouble out of mine, just got to ensure they are lubricated while being used.

The condition of the suspension on this bus just goes to show 2 things. First; just because some mechanics can set up a car to run 200 mph around a race track doesn't make them bus mechanics. Second; goes to show that if it doesn't make their car go faster teams won't spend money on maintenance. Keep on working to keep the bus community safe.

Lol, my wife never remembers what I said a new tool would cost, we have discussions about that all the time, she always seems to remember me telling her about 1/2 of the actual cost as well. I might tell her the price without shipping or tax but that doesn’t make it double the price. After 30 years I just buy what I need and she asked where that came from and I tell her I’ve had it for years….

    Scott:
Sooner or later we are going to get you to try dry ice in acetone rather than putting parts in the freezer. I restore old (1930’s-1940’s) ford tractors and a lot of components were put together at Ford by heat expansion then shrinking the outer component on. When rebuilding various assemblies I have found that it’s a lot easier to shrink the inner component with cold rather than heat the outer component in a bar-b-q grill. Dry ice and acetone works every time. Plus, you can pour the acetone back in the can.

Why are you not using PB Blaster on all these rusted and seized parts you wrench on? It’s a great product and I have almost never not been able to get some of the most gnarly rusted stuff apart after using it. I have seen it perform miracles on stuff I’d have bet was never going to unthread. Well since it was not rebuildable that would be like cleaning the toilet while there are turds still in it.

Many of us who are new to these old beauties don’t know how much repairs or tube ups cost on average.
Is there a reliable Repair Menu that can be referenced?

With the supply chain the way it's become, and the age of many busses do you believe the last round up is nearing as far as parts availability is concerned? More and more parts are becoming out of production and the supply of NOS items is finite. Are there any other viable alternatives?

If you can't get the threaded ram in that kit to work with your power pack most other threaded rams should work.

I really love these old MCI's. Just finding out about these coaches and falling in love. What is the shiny material on the outside? Aluminum or stainless steel?
