Excellent idea , letting your customers take part in the repair and learning how to on the own bus, I'm sure a lot of female owners would appreciate that kind of support especially in the automotive world.

Dude! That is awsome, letting the customer work along side you, and give them a discount, and tools to work on stuff that they want to do, as well as giving them pointers. You don't see that type of attitude with many shops, the Father likes that in a person you know? Shoot, if I ever get to retire from paint and body, I may just come take a week or so worth of lessons from you, and give you guys a hand, I'm not totally worn out yet, still got a few good miles left in me lol. Pay it forward when you can, kind of deal.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your website, your time, and your efforts. You have saved me thousands of dollars. I always had dreams of buying an old Eagle bus and restoring it to travel in during retirement. However, I have no mechanical, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or foresight for such a project. Through you, I've discovered that although I'm financially comfortable in retirement, I don't have deep enough pockets to keep such a project vehicle on the road after a paid restoration. Watching you and your website has convinced me that as much as I loved the idea of restoring a bus, I'd be a financial slave to that bus for as long as I owned it in keeping it up and on the road. So I'll have to be content watching your site and vicariously living through others who can afford such a venture. I do so enjoy watching you work. I love old busses. I was very good at what I did for a 48 year career. But short of that, I'm dumber than a sack of hammers. Thank you for your site. I envy your abilities. Keep up the great work.

The lack of honest and knowledgeable repair shops seems to be a serious problem for busses. But even us with a Class C motorhome have to be careful searching for repair and maintenance. Of course, having your work and spotlighting the work of others helps all in the search for service.. Thank you..

Great idea, having a tool cart for your patrons and essentially PAYING them $25/hr to train them? Such a deal! I know that experience will come in handy for them when they have a breakdown on the road, because I've seen video of RW&B working on his Eagle and getting it going after he had the benefit of your "schooling." That Mci 9 looks slick as snot once you get past the stuff going on underneath... I hope the owner gives us a tour of the interior.

    Scott,
It must seem like a blessing to be finally working under the Quonset hut. The first time you were working on a RV and I instantly recognized the sound of rain hitting the roof must have been great when you realized " it’s raining “ and you didn’t have to pack it up.
If you decide to utilize the two barrel wood stove setup I would stop by the town DPW tree department and ask what they do with the trees they remove take down and ask if they could drop the wood off at your shop as that’s cheap fuel to heat the shop with.
    Food for thought

A nice sized tarp works great. I was famous in my neighborhood for a tarp over the half of a vehicle I was working on...a little seat and heater when needed made it very comfortable in the rain snow cold or whatever. I was raising a family working during the day, had to play dad at night while mom worked 2nd shift fix stuff check on kids repeat, work till late at night to finish vehicle to get to work the next morning or long days on weekends. Now kids are grown house is empty I built a decent sized 2 bay shop with heat a/c internet 55" TV for computer monitor car hoist...and work in comfort as needed.

Something I really want to know here.... How come so many vehicles are in such poor shape??? What goes on? Are they what we call "maintenance free vehicles" ? I don't get it. Some of what I see is soooo dangerous. As a former heavy vehicle mechanic, I'm just amazed. I'm from down under and vehicles have to get inspected yearly and commercial vehicles even more frequently. Trucks and buses could get randomly inspected on the freeway by inspectors. Do the owners ever get their vehicles serviced? Or if they do, are the workshops doing the right thing? Most of the stuff I've seen, doesn't happen over night. It's due to no maintenance. Have they just purchased these vehicles and found all this out thanks to you? Or do they just drive around until something breaks? Love your show and everything you do by the way! It brings back many fond memories.

    • @BusGreaseMonkey
      @BusGreaseMonkey  3 роки тому

It’s never just one reason. But rv’s being exempt from inspections in most states leads to this. I try to preach about it. The maintenance required is very intensive especially when first purchased.

Just found your channel great memories of working on my dads lorry when I was fourteen changing the brake shoes and then crawling under neath the truck greasing up all the nipples. My dads welder mate made me a bucket lid with an air coupling attached so I could connect the air line from the lorry and grease it up with ease. Dad would inspect the brakes as I went along ( he had a bad back) and then get paid. Loved my weekends working on his lorry. Eventually I was doing the other drivers lorries as well. Being an owner driver they all had to do own repairs.

When you replace a part on a bus, do you order a few extra so that the next time you'll have one in stock in the shop? I feel like you're in the territory now where you need to start a parts building with common parts like bearings, seals, air bags, oil and filters.

Nah I think he said he doesn't want to keep a large selection of parts in around. Customers just pay to ship what they need. As much as things cost shipping is a small part of the price .

Good idea but the problem with this recommendation is that he has many buses that come in that are different years, makes and models. It can be done but he would have to record and track demands for each part that is considered a high demand part for his repairs. It’s probably easier for him to just order the parts and have them sent overnight because he and Tyler are extremely busy turning wrenches.

He would also become responsible for sales tax, inventory tax (I am under the assumption that the customer buys the parts, I may be mistaken here), the cost of loans / business credit to have those parts on hand, etc.

Let the parts supply places keep the inventory. Why spend your own money to stock parts? None of these buses are on a deadline like a bus company would have so a couple days to get parts is nothing.

You guys are all aces:-} The price break and letting them use your stuff is so cool. The box for customers to use is brilliant..then they can...if they want..make their own small on the road tool kit.
Keep up the great work guys!!

It amazes me and scares me some of the stuff you have shown that actually drove into your shop. A lot of these discoveries were not even the owners complaint. I’m not sure what the answer would be to make sure these vehicles are safe and roadworthy. I know you’ve educated many owners with your channel. Do you think it would be a good idea if states would require at least a certified annual inspection before you can get or renew a plate? Keep up the good work, I enjoying watching the content.

I’m now retired heavy duty diesel mechanic and seeing that greasy hub, I’ve done a few of those in my time , what a mess. Glad we don’t have smell a vision 🤪🤪🤪👍. By the way I purchased a rollaway from harbor freight about a year ago to hold more tools at home and I looked at the ones at Homedepot and I like the ones at harbor freight better. Been vary happy with it and I personally think the ones at harbor freight are better built.

My Harley mechanic was amazing he would let you work on your own motorcycle with his tools he had about 5 big boxes his only rule was you don't put them away, just clean tools you used and leave them on his desk. He said nobody could remember where they got them from. Lol
Unfortunately I have since moved away. He was a full patch 1% motorcycle club member and if he liked you the place was amazing.

If I was close, I’d enjoy doing some of this. Drove a tour bus for years and work on a lot of stuff. I think it would be enjoyable.

That's a great idea to let the customers participate and better they have access to their own set of tools. BTW, when the shoes get coated with the diff oil whats the deal with that material as it looks like they were washed off and not relined.
