- Firms that compete in the global marketplace typically face two types of competitive pressures: pressures for cost reductions and pressures to be locally responsive. These two pressures place conflicting demands on a firm. Responding to pressures for cost reductions requires that a firm try to minimize its unit costs. But responding to pressures to be locally responsive requires that a firm differentiate its product offering and marketing strategy from country to country in an effort to accommodate the diverse demands. Because differentiation across countries can involve significant duplication and a lack of product standardization, it may raise costs. So how do differences in the strength of those pressures affect a firm's choice of strategy? In this video, I will introduce four major international strategies to you.
As a business student I really enjoyed watching this video I had no idea of how many strategies go into international business. What I really liked was that the instructor used real companies as examples. That really helped me understand everything better.

I never realized there were so many different kinds of strategies that you can use within international business. Given the real world examples in the video I managed to have learned a lot. Just reading pages off of a page sometimes does not stick with me, but given the examples I feel as if i can really grasp and understand the concept of strategies used during international business.
As a student of this class, I enjoyed watching the video of the strategy of international business, and I learned a lot from it. I never knew how much the United States was involved in international business on an every day basis.
The most interesting part of this video for me is how cultural differences affect international business strategies. It was also informative regarding the pressures that international businesses face in order to stay competitive in their market.
When it comes to international business, there are many aspects that need to be evaluated when entering a new country such as governements, regulations, and different culture. That is where international business strategy comes into play. This video really helped explain what goes into that and some of the different concepts.

This video does a great job in teaching the differences between the different strategies in international business. depending on the type of company and what country you are expanding to, determines the type of strategy you will use.
I like how this video implements real-world problems. It helped me grasp the information even more. It also goes to show how the information in this course will apply to situations outside of the classroom. It helps to know about the pressures that companies face so that one day when we are working for or own a company we won't be blindsided why them. We will at least have some understanding of it now.
Prior to this video, I knew nothing about international business strategies. The breakdown and examples were very informative.
I can honestly say I knew very little about strategies of international business before watching this video, but now I am intrigued by some of these methods. My favorite part about the video is the real world examples given with every strategy. I like knowing that Caterpillar achieved a transnational strategy successfully which the video says is very difficult to do. I have a newfound respect for all of the companies listed in this video.
This video taught me about the pressures international businesses go through and the four different strategies a business uses internationally. I did not realize there was more than one strategy for international businesses. As a marketing student, this is important for me to comprehend because I will need to know which strategy is best for which type of business I will be working for.

In this video I was able to understand that there was multiple strategies in international business. Before this video I was only familiar with global standardization strategy so I found it neat to learn about the other strategies. I also find it interesting how certain company’s fall into a strategy that I did not think it would apply to them.
I loved how in this video you gave real world examples of international business. I also thought is was very interesting that some companies can just be characterized into a strategy that really does not suit them when looking on paper. I did robotics all throughout high school and even met with some of the top executives from Texas Instruments. It was interesting to learn that Texas Instruments uses a global standardization strategy. This makes sense because their products serve universal needs.

I thought the chart that it showed was very interesting where it categorized the 4 major strategies as high or low pressure of cost reduction and high or low pressure of local responsiveness. It also gave real-life examples and explained why it would or wouldn't make sense for a company to use this strategy. I loved this video! It reminded me of the time I was in England and we went to McDonalds. After eating English food for two weeks I wanted just a bacon cheeseburger from McDonalds. When I ordered my food I noticed that the menu was different from the one back in the United States. I got my cheeseburger and I noticed that the bacon was not what I would call Bacon at all. It was actually what the English call Rashers. Which is essentially a slice of bacon that looks more like ham. It was interesting to see how McDonald's had catered to the environment that it was in to become more profitable.

This video is good starting out in learning strategy to business that is international. It gives good examples with pictures. It gives a good insight with learning business.
The main pressure that was explained in this video that I found interesting was the pressure for cost reduction. In the global markets we see many examples of international businesses being affected by these different pressures in the market. An example I liked from this explanation was a manufactuer mass-producing a standardized product at the best location somewhere in the world. This goes into how a firm could choose to outsource the product for its low cost benefits in order to reduce costs.

I found it very interesting in how different business are handled internationally. I learned a great deal when learning about the four strategies.
International business has a lot of aspects that I have yet to realize. Also, many multinational companies have become very successful not only in the US but also outside of it, which is interesting to me.
Mass Production in an optimal location to reduce costs are not an easy feature, it is very easy to think that producing products in another country will benefit greatly but in reality, there are many factors to it besides the wage of workers. Exporting and Importing goods for me were huge factors in this discussion I had with some friends. So many factors and pressures are dealt with when it comes to this and its nice to hear the different strategies companies can take to respond to such questions.

I found this video very interesting and informative, I did not realize there were so many different strategies in international business. What I found to be most interesting was the pressures of cost reduction. I did not know this is one of the reasons that companies would outsource their labor. I was always puzzled about why a company would take away jobs from people already working in the company. However, after watching this video I understand how outsourcing labor can help reduce company costs.

I didn't know there were different strategies for international business and it was interesting to see how different companies take different approaches but can still be very successful. I also like to see that some of the biggest corporations are those that have international business and are not just represented in one company. Globalization and International Businesses can bring so much more profit and value to a company which can be great for shareholders. It will be interesting to see how many more companies go international with the rise and availability of the internet that makes this process more available to all companies.

I really enjoyed this video! There must be a good strategy when performing international business, since many factors play into being successful. It is not easy to sell products in other countries, since the company has to adapt to different cultures and preferences of a specific country in order to sell the product. It can be very costly to enter a market, so you need to make sure by performing analysis based on the model in this video, to know that the market you will enter, has a high chance of gaining sales.

This video was very informative over the strategies of international business. I found the use of real world examples to be very helpful. I especially liked the example of Nestle for localization strategy. I was aware that Nestle had different products in different markets, but I never took time to question why. Overall, this video has advanced my understanding of the different strategies of international business.
I learned quite a bit from this video especially from the section on global standardization strategy. I have not seen or heard about the chart with pressures for local responsiveness showing which strategy would be best based upon the amount of pressures.

Great video. Most of the information here are things that I knew on one level, but I admit I did not know the terminology. As for local responsiveness, I have to admit that I relate to Britain in there position on "high-pressure" sales. I receive all of the advertising calls for my company and would much rather prefer a "softer" approach than what seems to be the standard practice here.

I learned that global strategy sacrifices responsiveness to local requirements within each of its markets in favor of emphasizing efficiency. Transnational strategy seeks a middle ground between a multidomestic strategy and a global strategy.
I never realized that there were four different strategies that international businesses could use. The struggle of local responsiveness and cost reduction have varying weights depending on which strategy is used. They also have to watch out for threats that may come if they don't amount to their full potential.
The international strategy seems to me to be the go to when it comes to international business for product companies due to the major advantages of low pressures for local responsiveness and low pressures for cost reductions. I'm not sure what strategy I would lean on more if I looked at taking a service company global though would definitely take a lot more research depending on the industry.
My biggest issue with pressure for cost reduction is the ethics of it, I know many times that the people who work for these lower wages in these countries are often the only bread winners for their families, but I cna't help but think the companies are saving enough to where they couldoffer better work conditions and wages.
Each of these strategies has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of strategy will depend on a variety of factors, including the company's goals and resources, the characteristics of the target market, and the competitive landscape.
After watching this video I find myself wondering how companies I buy from use the various strategies and how it affects the global market.
Working in the global marketplace seems to have some major challenges that would have to be adapted to. While there is a ton of advantages possible, there are a lot of careful steps to be taken to avoid losing money and to continue business growth.
From watching this video, I learned the appropriateness for each strategy that can be used in international business. this video is a really good tool. i love how they presented situations and examples in order to have a better understand of the concept. ihave learned the two types of competitive pressure and the importance of those concepts in the economy. i also learned new concepts that helped me to understand some of the material of the chapter.
This was very educational. I learned that you really have to know your market and plan ahead so that you can use the appropriate strategy to approach your customers whether it's an international, transnational, localization, or global standardization strategy.
