It's like some crazy moments that don't have anything to do with combat...just finding a beautiful field and my jaw just dropped how gorgeous it was...
Yes. This game was why I bought PS4, my personal system seller. Highly recommend if you haven't played it already. Graphically, it often reminds me of WItcher 3 style. Now, looking back, Witcher 3 shows its age in some parts, NPC faces look pretty bad by now, Geralt himself looks awful, but I think W3, just like GOT, will always look beautiful, because of its color pallet, the colors are just so bright and beautiful in those games, it is like opposite of Behesda titles lol. In Witcher 3, its a 10 year old game almost, but if you go near the water, and the lake and sky will be so blue, sand will be so yellow, while the fellow forest is bright green in the background. It is like a painting, I guess there would be people who dislike such style, cause it is not very realistic, or too bright, but I don't know man, it just looks amazing. Its been a long time since I have played this game, this remains the only game ever that I pre order, but I remember that one quest where I had to find a shrine or smth, and I had to follow the clues, there were no markers, anything, but just clues what I need to find with my actual eyes. And I remember I had to look for a blue flowers, I ride my horse back and forth and suddenly I see a hill full of blue flowers, and it just hit me - this is amazing, what an experience. They had Akira Kurosawa mode, that makes the game black and white, and it was more than a filter, they put effort to make sounds and effects look and sound more like Akira's films, but that mode, while great homage, is still so needless, because if you choose to play this game black and white, you are a fool.
Interesting fact about the grass in the game: in most, if not all games, we have a pack of grass blades positioned on the ground. The larger the number of the pack is, the denser the grass is respectively, which requires more processing power and can hinder performance. What the devs at Sucker Punch did is that they took the grass blades and simply bent them in U shape there for creating the illusion of having twice as much grass from a single grass blade. Simply incredible and very clever
I'm playing this on a 4080 Super with everything maxed and it is absolutely stunning. Then again, it was stunning when I played it on PS4 too - art design goes a hell of a long way in games.
I only found Luke Stephens channel very recently... and I wish I found it much earlier. Only channel on YT I watch every video of. Keep up the good work. A legend of the video game medium at the moment in my opinion and severly underrated.

Don't mind me watching this video on the same 720p phone screen i watched the last two GoT graphic update videos on. 'Yes luke I agree, this update does look breathtaking!'
Hearing Luke speak about how the wind leads direction in game made me think of the Mafia game and how they'd use street signs for direction. I'm all for developer's being creative like that.
Ghost of Tsushima isn’t “woke”, it’s just pure entertainment and fun. A great plus. Assassins Creed Shadows is “woke” and I will not waste my money on it.
This game is tremendous overall. It's nice to see so many people appreciate it now. I feel like there was a lot of love when it came out, but a lot of people tried to bring up negatives too. I won't comment on the one negative the game has. The combat, visuals, and feel of the game is tremendous. I love how the combat is a challenge but isn't souls like. Super nice for the average gamer.
Still remember the first time I experienced the moment when the title appears after the conclusion of the intro sequence with that music. Had goosebumps. Nice to relive that

8:40 i dont think that they think we're stupid, i think they're just creatively bankrupt and their corporate overlord don't want them to try new things, just repeat what it already proven to work. Minimap, every RPG needs a mini map, add it in. And then they do, like its a given. Never even occurs to them that there could be a new and interesting way to do it. I'm remembering when the first FPS gave you a sprint button, then every FPS after that had it, had to have it or it was outdated out of the gate. Imagine 20 years of inivations, to come up with the standard's we have now come to expect. Then every now and again, someone is ballsy enough to try something. Someone who come up with the idea of the wind and birds and bugs, guiding you, that person was inspired. And clearly empowered enough to get it done.
This game is jaw-dropping even on PS5. Holds a buttery smooth 60 fps even at 4k resolution, so I’m sure with the right hardware you can easily get 120+ frames at 4k on PC. 110% one of the best optimized game I’ve seen on PS5 yet, so it doesn’t surprise me that its incredibly well optimized on Pc
One of the things I love about this game is when Jin has finished killing the enemies, and you choose to sheath his katana, Jin will do these cool animations to clear the blood off his katana before sheathing. It’s so cool.
Just picked it up myself because it was suggested by two of my work buddies. My jaw was on the floor. I, too, have a pretty powerful pc so I was able to crank everything and still run it at 80-100 fps native. It's become an action game third to a walking simulator and a background wallpaper generator- so much time spent in photo mode. I haven't played a game since Skyrim that has such a serene and magical atmosphere.
Truly an amazing game and a truly masterpiece. Beautiful graphics, captivating story and just captures everything I’ve imagine a samurai video game will be. I played this on PS4 but now experiencing everything on PC the directors cut version and extended story like iki island. It’s crazy to think that while this game is not historically accurate but imagine that the samurai’s from the 12th century would never know how much impact they left even making a video game about it.
The biggest issue with Assassin's Creed bullshido is that Ubisoft is insisting the black samurai is historic. yasuke was a real guy bu never a samurai.
Thank you for actually being honest about the single-player being available without a PSN account and the game actually being available in Japan. I've seen so much misinformation and rage-baiting about the PSN requirements lately from people trying to make things out to be worse than they are just because going after Sony is the current in thing to do.
@@ANGRYWOLVERINE2060-ft2nc The ironic thing is that prior to the Helldivers 2 debacle, those people were able to open accounts in other regions and access PSN in regions close to their own, and buy games accordingly. In fact, Sony's own MISERABLE customer service acknowledged the limited reach of PSN and said that people COULD OPEN ACCOUNTS IN OTHER REGIONS without copping a ban, outside of some very specific cases (China being one of them, but that has a lot to do with local laws that ban access to content their government would otherwise censor).
Ghost of Tsushima is certainly not a game with "bad or outdated" graphics, but is still a prime example, just like Elden Ring, that Art Direction can make a game look like a living portrait and absolute beauty even whitout the best textures or polygon count

What makes this game look so good is the scale of the world. The trees and rocks make the world feel massive as they block your view. The last Halo felt tiny it felt like you could see the whole map. Sort of like the San Andreas remake when they didn’t add the fog effect.
How does the game look so beautiful? Well when your character is the only living human in the world with the occasional 2 to 4 enemies you take out there is nothing but grass and trees
One of the best things about the wind mechanic in my eyes is that you never need to call the wind I didn't know how to call it for the first couple hours, and so I just followed the actual wind, all wind blows to your pin, so even when not calling the wind, it still passively blows that direction anyways, meaning if you've got a good eye, you see where you need to go
There are points throughout the game where you send NPC's to a local town. You can then follow them to that town and clear their path of any dangers. You don't need to interact with that NPC again, they just walk right past the corpses.
AC Shadows getting "a mixed reception" is one hell of an understatement. The game got shit on for trying to pander to the DEI mafia and Ubisoft's stock tanked as a result.
Played this ps4 then ps5 I’m saving the PC version as a treat and once it gets the inevitable tweaks. Along with RDR2 one of the most immersive and beautiful game your ever play. Puts to shame the efforts of many other so called AAA games and studios.
I agree about ray tracing. I think game developers' graphics priorities are backwards. There are so many other more important facets to the visual presentation, like clipping, or pop in.
Important! For you folks WITHOUT a 4000 series card, I’ve a 3090ti. I’ve got everything maxed, DLSS quality. It’s running between 125 and 144fps at 4K ultrawide. Even though the pre 4K series cards don’t support Nvidias frame generation, turn on the AMD frame gen. I went from 80-90 fps to the 125-144. 0 loss of graphic fidelity. Quite impressed. Also, suggest using dramatic lighting with small adjustments to brightness. Really helps with contrast and depths to shadow
Ghost of Tsushima came out at the end of the PS4 life cycle and it shows, is one of the best PS4 games I've played, it has been said some Japanese game studios were jealous of what Sucker Punch accomplished with their awesome game.
Wind, chimes, finches, foxes light gray smoke, and massive pillar of black smoke. Using your eyes in the world to go explore instead of a map with a billion icons. This is how you remove the hand holding and how invigorate an audience to explore and have wonderment in your game. This is an awesome game, Im very looking forward to playing this on PC. I wish the legends mode could have a few more maps, weapons, and builds but that’s only because it is gosh darn amazing, that I want more. That’s how incredible the full package of this game is. Phenomenal single player, and a phenomenal multiplayer. Hope that quality like this doesn’t completely die out in the future of the games industry (as mega corps are favoring live service, heavy micro transaction, or gacha).
Golden bird that holds your hand to the haiku. Gust of wind that holds your hand to the next objective. At least Ubisoft treats you like an adult, you pick what you want to do where you want to go.
I appreciate the concern you share for us who can’t make a PSN account or let alone buy the game in steam. A masterpiece like this should never have been restricted. It is somewhat a painful thought that games of interest of mine got restricted twice, mines were MGRR and this. I’m curious if anyone else has games in mind they liked to play but couldn’t due to region restrictions?
Hey Luke, I'm sure you know this since it was in the IGN article but I don't think you touched on it in your Shadows coverage - thankfully Ubisoft is taking a bit of inspiration from more minimalistic games like Ghost of Tsushima and Elden Ring in regards to hand holding and overbearing icons, and they are changing their approach to relaying that information to the player. Viewpoints no longer add a billion icons to your map, you'll be able to see points of interest to tag and then you'll have to navigate there via your own markers. I agree with you that this is one best parts of Tsushima and Elden Ring, and I'm hoping it improves Shadows. Tsushima is one of my favorite games but it scratches a different itch for me than AC, so I don't see it as a replacement like some people do. I'm hoping Shadows really ups the quality (come on Ubi, put some effort into your animations) and I hope it's amazing. I hope you like it too since I know you're a big fan of the series (as critical as you are). I'll be curious to continue following your coverage.
This is just my take, but I thought the game was very mid. The graphics were alright, but the game environment mostly consisted of open fields, a few trees, minimalistic buildings, and a lot of atmospheric fog. I appreciated the minimal HUD, but the gameplay felt repetitive, often just following a bird or fox to a lackluster event. The world also seemed empty and not very interactive.
I bought this game on PS4 but couldn't get into either. Bought it again on pc, actually using keyboard and mouse controls. And I'm hooked. This is a masterpiece!
don't forget that the level design is s tier in this game, when you progress into the story you feel that you get rewarded with good techniques and new features that keeps you exploring the game
To this day Ghost of Tsushima remains the one and only Playstation exclusive game that I've ever been interested in playing. I played it when it came out on my brother's ps4 which I bought from him specifically to play the game and was completely blown away

In my eyes it looked exactly the same even I know it did not. But still. One of the mot beautiful ame I have ever played for sure. I am not about to jump right into pc port now. I platinumed the game on ps4 like 3 years ago... There was no kiki island or whatever it is at the time. But I will play this port one day and will play it as well. I am excited for that. But right now I am deep in my first play trough in RDR2 and I am going to play this game for a while. But this wind mechanic is great af. Just pure visual porn this game
This is what ppl thought they were getting with Rise of the Ronin. Meanwhile this looks two generations ahead of that game

Best title screen I've seen in a game. Still gives me goosebumps when I see it.
Ghost of Tsushima is the only game that gives me the same feeling of beauty I get from looking at nature IRL. While games like RDR2 and Elden Ring look amazing in their own ways GoT is special
play kingdom come deliverance
@@liloni444 I have and I love it. But while the game is beautiful and the forests especially look super realistic something about the beauty disappears in the screen compared to real life, but with GoT even if it doesn't look exactly like real life manages to capture the feel of looking at a beautiful vista.
Started both RDR2 and ER a couple times, still intend to give them another shot but after starting Ghost can't put it down.
Literally just started playing this for the first time on PS5 yesterday. Excited to get stuck into it!
My advice would be take your time with it, it's truly one of the best games of all time.
@@mitchh5596 Definitely seems like a game you wanna take slow. I just wanna walk everywhere tbh 😂
It's like some crazy moments that don't have anything to do with combat...just finding a beautiful field and my jaw just dropped how gorgeous it was...
Sony make the some of the best graphical games.
Can't disagree.
God of war Ragnarok is the most beautiful game I’ve ever played
@@RobinsMusic Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima are also pretty insane if you haven't checkedbthem out.
Yeah, it's sad all their games play the same
I started replaying this after watching Shogun, and it's still awesome
Interesting fact about the grass in the game: in most, if not all games, we have a pack of grass blades positioned on the ground. The larger the number of the pack is, the denser the grass is respectively, which requires more processing power and can hinder performance. What the devs at Sucker Punch did is that they took the grass blades and simply bent them in U shape there for creating the illusion of having twice as much grass from a single grass blade. Simply incredible and very clever
I can’t wait to see the mods people come up with for this now
kratos as a samurai

More whacky armour like the monkey set from ishi island
Obviously cj from san andreas on a horse battling mongols lol
I'm fully expecting someone to turn Khotun Khan into Thomas the train
I'm playing this on a 4080 Super with everything maxed and it is absolutely stunning. Then again, it was stunning when I played it on PS4 too - art design goes a hell of a long way in games.
Same here, I beat it formally on my ps5. In 4k on pc though it looks so much better. PS5 had more of a cartoony look.
Switched from normal mode to lethal mode. Its night and day... the combat feels more fluid and immersive.
Lethal is the only way to play this game.
I only found Luke Stephens channel very recently... and I wish I found it much earlier. Only channel on YT I watch every video of. Keep up the good work. A legend of the video game medium at the moment in my opinion and severly underrated.
Ghost of Tsushima as of September 2024, sold 32.87M copies worldwide.
imo THE best ui , most immersive game you 'l play
Perfect timing. I just got done with my current session of playing it. Glad I have a 4050 to be able to crank this baby to max. I’ve always been more of an Xbox guy, so I’m glad I can finally play this amazingly beautiful game
2:20 they're not a Japan based studio, they're main base is California and closed their japan studio years ago, they're as western as can be
Wasn’t that a while melt down of suburbanites that the game was made in the west. Meanwhile the place in Japan that the game was set loved it for how it repeated their home.
He didnt say that listen to it again.
He said Sony is a Japanese company. PlayStation itself is American based...
I’ll say man when I got my PS5 last year one of the first games I got was Ghost of Tsushima and to this day it is what I call a work of true art
The gameplay and story are awesome but the world and how fluid everything is
Simply breathtaking
Very happy more people will get to enjoy this
playing a game that looks this good at 120+fps shows that a ton of developers don't give a fuuuuuuck about optimization

the guiding wind is your father helping you find your way after losing everything and having nowhere else to turn
I've been playing a lot of Horizon before this came out and I gotta say I love that Sucker Punch included the Horizon control scheme in the options as an alternative to the default controls. It's gonna make playing both of these games alongside each other much easier lol
A true Samurai game than AC Shadows. Ghost of Tsushima is one hell of a game on ps4/5
I can’t play on my country so I downloaded cracked sorry Sony :(

Still remember the first time I experienced the moment when the title appears after the conclusion of the intro sequence with that music. Had goosebumps. Nice to relive that
I did the same with Ghost of Tsushima, for some reason on ps4 I just couldn’t get into it but once I got a ps5 something just clicked and I RAN through it!
Some devs need to learn what the joy of discovery is. Having a mini map with a gazillion markers is not engaging gameplay.
14:29 Glad to see pyrocynical's editor getting more jobs
Is that normal haha?
I’m having a good time. Finally got to play this masterpiece.

Totally agrees and it is pretty astonishing that it runs as well as it does on the OG Steam Deck (about 50 FPS with occasional drops)

I loved Ghost of Tsushima.
Enjoyed your video quite a lot. Your calm presentation feels relaxed and natural, highly appreciated ! This game has my attention now, thanks a lot!
Pyrocynical on 14:49 LMAOO
Just picked it up myself because it was suggested by two of my work buddies. My jaw was on the floor. I, too, have a pretty powerful pc so I was able to crank everything and still run it at 80-100 fps native. It's become an action game third to a walking simulator and a background wallpaper generator- so much time spent in photo mode. I haven't played a game since Skyrim that has such a serene and magical atmosphere.
Stating the game "runs well", without disclosing your hardware, nor your frame rate, means nothing Luke. There is no frame of reference.
That Charcoal art section got me lol.. Needed that laugh. Thanks for this video Luke!
Lethal mode is the best and only way this game should be played.
Absolutely..and prepare to be one shotted in a lot of those duels.
Yeah but excluding all those countries and all the potential money is asinine.
Players who live in those countries aren't treated fairly imo.
@@ANGRYWOLVERINE2060-ft2nc The ironic thing is that prior to the Helldivers 2 debacle, those people were able to open accounts in other regions and access PSN in regions close to their own, and buy games accordingly. In fact, Sony's own MISERABLE customer service acknowledged the limited reach of PSN and said that people COULD OPEN ACCOUNTS IN OTHER REGIONS without copping a ban, outside of some very specific cases (China being one of them, but that has a lot to do with local laws that ban access to content their government would otherwise censor).
ayyyy Ghost of Tsushima is removed from steam in my country thank you sony looks like sony doesn't want my money
Ghost of Tsushima is certainly not a game with "bad or outdated" graphics, but is still a prime example, just like Elden Ring, that Art Direction can make a game look like a living portrait and absolute beauty even whitout the best textures or polygon count
Ac Shadows will never come close to this level of quality, and I will not be paying overpriced for a worse experience when I can just replay this whenever I want.

One of the best things about the wind mechanic in my eyes is that you never need to call the wind
I didn't know how to call it for the first couple hours, and so I just followed the actual wind, all wind blows to your pin, so even when not calling the wind, it still passively blows that direction anyways, meaning if you've got a good eye, you see where you need to go
Those Who are exited to play ghost of tushima on your pc like here. ❤
There are points throughout the game where you send NPC's to a local town. You can then follow them to that town and clear their path of any dangers. You don't need to interact with that NPC again, they just walk right past the corpses.
I shouldnt be able to play this but thank god for piracy.
I cannot wait to see what the mods are going to be like
AC Shadows getting "a mixed reception" is one hell of an understatement. The game got shit on for trying to pander to the DEI mafia and Ubisoft's stock tanked as a result.
The way this game leads the player by instinct and environmental direction is genius.
Incredibly good so far
Just the intro alone, is absolutely shivering! What a phenomenal game
Played this ps4 then ps5 I’m saving the PC version as a treat and once it gets the inevitable tweaks. Along with RDR2 one of the most immersive and beautiful game your ever play. Puts to shame the efforts of many other so called AAA games and studios.
Just played it and the open world is the opposite of Ubisoft's open world formula
I love it so far.
Played this game for 15 minutes and had the chills twice already... incredibly beautiful. Just as you say 🖤
I wish I had the dough to buy it on Steam, but I'm broke af right now. Reminds me of the same immersive experience as Days Gone. Love that game!
Let's also not forget the ridiculously good force feedback implementation on the dual sense controller. Really adds so much depth to the game.
4:53 Thank you for mentioning the vsync issue. I was wondering what setting was causing glitchy particle effects in my game.
This might be the prettiest game I have played that runs this smooth,
Without mods even, I can only imagine what modding this game can do
Hey Luke, I'm sure you know this since it was in the IGN article but I don't think you touched on it in your Shadows coverage - thankfully Ubisoft is taking a bit of inspiration from more minimalistic games like Ghost of Tsushima and Elden Ring in regards to hand holding and overbearing icons, and they are changing their approach to relaying that information to the player.
💯 agree with you
Wow! Looks amazing! Im glad PC players are able to enjoy such an amazing game. One of my favs for the last gen.
The only game i was waiting for so long man, last year i got ps5 played it some. Would live to buy it for my pc one day.

To this day Ghost of Tsushima remains the one and only Playstation exclusive game that I've ever been interested in playing. I played it when it came out on my brother's ps4 which I bought from him specifically to play the game and was completely blown away
