I’m so glad that you got the upgrades that you’ve been voicing desire for. The front locker really does make a world of difference. I have a Chevy ZR2 Diesel with front and rear lockers stock. A rear locker is amazing when off roading, I think that’s why so many manufacturers are making them a stock option in their off road vehicles, but the front locker REALLY makes the vehicles shine and get you through situations you’d normally have to winch through. Thanks for all the great videos
Just received my 4:88 diffs and air locker from ECGS having them installed this weekend in my 07 TRD. Needless to say, I'm excited about it! Loving the content, thank you
a nice change of scenery, greeny and shady. cool trail, and I like your comments, always on point, great timing with script on screen, just brilliant! good show team!
Nice video. I took my 2" lifted TJ to the area today. First tim 4x4ing. Didn't find this trail - it looks al ittle sketchy for it. And I'd have to drive it home.
I really want to hear what you think about the front lockers. After you use them for awhile. I didn't install front lockers when I regeared. I was concerned the small CV axle couldn't take the added stress. Oh about your skids making noise. No shop puts the skids back on right. Kinda frustrating. Being how much money they charge you. Bet your loving the FJ even more now. Steve from so cal
Yes the cv's are a concern. We'll just have to see how it works out. I really love the added traction so far! I will try to only use the front locker in situations where I really need it. Thanks for watching!
Yes both diffs and labor. Rebel off road in lake Forest So Calif orange county. They did it in one day. Jacob would be your guy. They use Revolution gears. I put 4.56 in. I have 34s and now it runs 2200 at 65mph.
Enjoy the new capabilities and looking forward to finish up mine. I have 315s as well, but I was thinking of 4:56 not go all the way up to 4:88. I will have to do plenty of hwy as well not only offroad. However I am curios why you picked 4:88 instead of 4.56, and what is your experience on hwy speeds. BTW I will also do the locker when I re-gear.
I'm glad I went with 4.88. Not a huge difference between the two options really. I love the new gears at highway speeds. 80mph is great! Thanks for watching!
Well...after much debate I went with 4.88 when I put the front locker. I went with the Haroop eLocker.....You, it turns out, are completely "off the (cv) axle". You are building an "FJstein". All the best in doing it, looking forward to see the final monster. I am stopping where you where before because what you where able to do with the FJ is enough for me. BTW, i am picking up the Buds skids too...but I am not painting it white like yours :-) Good luck Ken!
...one more comment on the front locker for the people that are in doubt about it. FJ is awsome off road with big tires, but adding a front locker is like using cheat codes in a game -> it gives you superpowers :-)
Great video and trail, I wonder if my stock ZR2 could make it without any serious damage? Also, you asked about GoPro settings... it's always better to add + exposure in the video settings, and then bring the light down when you are editing the video. It's easier to reduce exposure than it is to add it.
Thank you for that tip! The gopro makes everything too dark. Recently I've been lightening the shadows and it looks pretty good. I use Premier Pro. As for FB5, you could do it without damage if you're careful, and it would help a lot if it were dry. That part where I winched you would need to winch or get pulled up by another vehicle, unless it's changed. It gets really narrow and technical in a couple places in the second half. Some careful maneuvering and spotting and you might be ok. Thanks for watching!!
If there's one thing about an off-roading rig that is the most important, what would it be? If one took a stalk everyday vehicle, and improved only one thing, what would make the biggest difference? Is it the gearing, the suspension, the weight, the tires, etc? Or is the way one drives and controls the vehicle the main thing?
Tires. Not just size, but durability and traction. A good off road tire will have thicker walls to prevent puncture and have a far more aggressive tread pattern than road tires. So if you're only going to improve one thing about a stock vehicle it would definitely have to be tires.
What size lift and tires are you running? I attempted this trail last weekend and couldn’t get passed the beginning. I have a 2015 JKU Rubicon with a 2” lift and 33’s. It definitely was scraping the rocks and I didn’t want to continue because I’ve yet to buy any aftermarket skid plates for it.
@@offroadhub.official Yeah, I don’t feel comfortable with just the factory skid plates that it came with.. and only a 2” lift. I’ll try it when I upgrade. It was extremely slick from the rain this last weekend. Maybe I would have made it in the summertime.
Ride quality on pavement is great. On bumpy gravel roads it's a little harsh. I really love the slow speed offroad performance of the dobinsons. Thanks for watching!
@@precisiont5188 was just up there yesterday (saturday) when you turn off the high way just follow the sign to browns camp and stay on the main gravel road all the way up and you will come to fire break 5. Hope this helps
4:88 AND a front locker, the jealousy continues, lol. Great video, thank you for sharing.

I agree that the front locker is a game changer! Getting those front wheels to climb is awesome!
Another great vid, thanks for sharing your adventures!

Great video, we bought a place in Oregon and I am planning to hit this trail in the summer of 2022.
Excellent time to tryout those gears and front locker.
Did this trail in the snow a few times it’s epic
Snow would certainly complicate things...

Maybe when you are working on the skid plates you could show us a mods video.
Great vid. What should someone expect to spend in order to pay a shop to re-gear both differentials? With 295s I’ve been thinking 4.56.
A couple thousand for parts, then add labor. It isn't cheap. Thanks for watching!
I paid 2300.00 I don't know if that's a good price. I'm in Southern California where we pay more for everything
Steve Green hi, is that for both diffs and labor?

Your airbags will deploy, though.
Do the newer Land Cruiser's with the independent front suspension have the same independent as the 4 Runner?
No, they are different parts, but they function the exact same way.
Do you think a 2.5" liftes jeep wk with 31 would make the trail with the quadradrive 2 and the feature to be able to lock the axels with the jcan app?
You'll make it, but I wouldn't try it alone! 😉

I was running 35" tires and a 3" lift. It's a really fun trail though! Good luck next time!
@@offroadhub.official Question: do you think I would have made it with skid plates?
@@matthewdoolittle2515 I guess it depends on your tolerance for scraping rocks. It's definitely harder the wetter it is.

I'm just gettin into off road and wonderin if theres a group of peeps that get together to do trials ?
in oregon/ washington
Ken are your skids aluminum or steel? How have they held up? Im personally sticking with aluminum myself
My skids are 3/16ths steel. They've held up as well as can be expected. I've had to bend them back into shape a couple times.
Shade!
Hows the ride quality with those dobinsons in the rear? On/off-road?

how long did you drive on the 35s without regearing?
Only a few months. 4.88 gears made a huge difference, in a good way.
@@offroadhub.official you still wheeled when it wasnt regeared right?
@@rolandm2764 yes. Regearing isn't required, but it's really nice. 👍
Is there an address to the place you ended where everything comes together? How could I get there besides the way you used?
There are smooth access roads to all the trails in Tillamook. I don't currently have the maps on my phone, but they're pretty easy to find online.
