- Official Race Replay of the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands. Won by Orb, ridden by Joel Rosario, trained by Shug McGaughey, owned by Stuart Janney III & Phipps Stable
And they're off in Derby 139, and Orb was just given a nudge as they let them go, and Java's War was very slow to begin, and Mylute also just missed the kick, and Revolutionary has been taken back in the early stages by Calvin Borel. Falling Sky towards the outside of Itsmyluckyday and Goldencents and Palace Malice and Verrazano is also trying to flash early speed towards the outside of the leading group.

I wish NBC would use Dave Johnson for their Derby broadcasts. He is such a professional. Trevor Denman and Dave Johnson are in a class by themselves.
They're racing down towards the final furlong. Normandy Invasion, but here is Orb on the outside. Orb and Joel Rosario take the lead with a sixteenth of a mile to go in the Kentucky Derby. Orb is out in front. Java's War is absolutely flying, in fact its Golden Soul, but it is Orb to win the Derby. Orb wins the Derby. Golden Soul in second, Revolutionary and then Normandy Invasion, Mylute and Oxbow. But it was Orb for Shug McGaughey and Joel Rosario who won Derby 139.
Looking back, that was one solid ass class of three year old colts

Love to see em run the muddy sloppy conditions! So used to it being sunny and perfect but today was awesome!
After Charming Kitten is Overanalyze who has already been ridden along. Then Lines of Battle towards the inside next races Golden Soul. Tthen Orb who's only got three behind. Mylute is towards the rear. Revolutionary is last but one. Absolute last is Java's War. The half in 45 and 1. Half a mile to go in Derby 139 and as they go out of the back stretch its Palace Malice who still has the lead to Oxbow racing in second. Verazzano in third.

So they go now past the wire with a circuit to go in the Kentucky Derby and it is Palace Malice who leads. Goldencents racing in second. Oxbow towards the inside in third. Verrazono is in fourth. Vyjack is in fifth. Itsmyluckyday is in sixth. Falling sky in seventh. In eighth position on the inside Normandy Invasion. Followed then in ninth by Giant Finish. A break then to the tenth horse who is Will Take Charge. Eleventh is Frac Daddy and then towards the inside races Charming Kitten.
While Orb wasn't my pick, i wish him well and hope he made all three. About time the 35 year drought ends. And btw, let's knock off about Secretariat. Secretariat was Secretariat and Orb is Orb.

What is it that the announcer says Mylute misses at the start?
that is ridiculous. it's racing. there are variables. track surface is one of them. a great racehorse will manage regardless of conditions.
I honestly believe and feel that #5Normandy Invasion could have won this race if it were a dry track. The jockey may have made a premature move to get him to the front. I think a little more patience gets the job done or a close second. If he runs in the Preakness, I think I will back him again. He will have to run a shorter race and if it is dry track, I think he and the jockey will be all the wiser and better for the next race. Nevertheless, Congrats! are in order for Orb and Joel R.
I really bothers me that Revolutionary didn't win, the some reporters were saying Orb wouldn't be able to win because he never ran on mud (I don't believe), but since my 3rd pick was Orb, I guess I'm okay with it, but not as a Triple Crown winner.

i picked java war to win...did anyone see how that horse flew...i bet 19 with 3-4-5-6...2nd-3rd-4th and 5th was my horse..only to be beat by 16.....besides taking number 19 i think i read the form pretty good
No excuse, this is his job. You telling me this is his first muddy race hes done, of course not. Larry Collmus didnt have any problems. Some guys are just better then others. If its your job, there is no excuse IMO.

Real race horses overcome it? How many other races have 20 horses in the race? That many horses and that much mud flying changes the race
I personally think this was an unfair race because not all the contenders where suited for running on this type of ground.

+celly MaUs this is more natural for horses than show jumping, and steeplechase as wild horses run all of the time. I've seen horses that love to run, Secretariat, and American Pharoah seems like he loves to run to. Running for horses is natural, sure horses get hurt, but so do the jockeys. But that does not happen all the time though, same for Rodeo. PETA just shows only the bad stuff, and they are liers, they fake their videos, their videos are staged. Also the horses that are the greatest runners will be retired to stud, now that sounds like a good life to me. Pastures, green grass, mares, trust me he will be treated very well, then after stuf life most horses are retired to retired farms where they live the rest of their lifes just eating, sleeping and having fun,

+celly MaUs no offense but I have seen horse race each other in pastures, with no person on them, just for fun, I have ridden horse before, I've seen them run and race each other all over the place before, you can't say that they don't like racing. As the first triple crown winner Sir Barton would not run unless he was racing another horse, that was the way that the owners and trainer had to train him. Also Secreteriat seemed like he knew what was going on and had fun racing, same for AP. Also do I gave to say this agian to get it thorugh your stupid thick skull, PETA is horrible, they stage their videos, also they put animals down rather than trying to find a home for them, so they have killed animals to. Why would you support them when they have killed animals (horses, dogs, cats, all kinds of animals) as they think that is better than finding a good home for them.
