Congrats on the new car Raajan, PIn looked so sad and shocked. After passing I admit, it is easy to get a bit lazy with driving as there is no one there to correct you, and especially when the roads are not as busy, but I know its important to be constantly alert, aware and reflect after every drive about how I can improve and keep to a good driving standard.

Love his brutal honesty throughout! I initially passed when I was 21. My instructor was very similar to PIn in many ways. Towards the end of my first 2 years of passing I had my license revoked for speeding, of all places on the motorway! I had picked up a lot of bad habits typically people pick up after driving alone, some similar to Raaj. I didn't retake my driving test until last year in March 22 (waited over 10 years) due to thinking I am a poor driver and would only cause myself and the general public more trouble in the long run. I have been driving for over a year now and Pins advice is spot on. ' For the first 2 years continue to drive the way you did during your lessons'. That is very sound advice. By then you are sure to be a lot more safer of a driver. Some habits you won't be able to get rid of. Like the one hand on the steering wheel. I am guilty of that too! Honestly just always focus on your speed depending on the situation you encounter and all should be fine is my personal opinion. Been watching DGN driving for a few years now and thanks to Pin for all the informative as well as entertaining content you provide us with! Keep up the good work and Raaj avoid the boy racers and you will be fine. You seem a smart lad anyway!

    • @shannonbriggs100
      @shannonbriggs100 10 місяців тому

@@ricardoportwood39 Oh boy, I was terrified for mine. I have autism and anxiety so… ugh, it was terrible. But, it really isn’t as bad as you think it is. The examiner I got was a lovely, friendly woman who chatted to me about dogs and laughed at my crap jokes. Couldn’t believe it when she said I passed.
My advice is to just go in their with a smile, be polite and try to chat. Use small talk and find something you both enjoy then talk about it. I found out she had seven dogs and I have three and love them so I spent at least 25 minutes just talking about dogs and pet care. I also made a lot of jokes to help ease the tension. I just joked about being nervous. I asked her about how her tests usually go and that I, sarcastically, hoped she’d had nothing but bad drivers so that my driving would look amazing in comparison. I’m a very ‘funny’ individual and I always make jokes and enjoy making people laugh.
Another tip is to do commentary driving. Let them know what you’re planning to do and what you’re doing currently. For example, I had cyclists in front of me and I just said “There’s a cyclist in front of me but I won’t overtake as we are going up hill and I can not see if the road is clear.” As soon as the road was clear I said “The road is clear. I am now going to overtake the cyclist, I’m checking my middle and right mirror, giving him a wide amount of space. Checking my middle and left mirror as I pull back into my lane.” It lets them know you know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. Not just doing what you’ve been told, you’re actually using your own judgement.
And lastly, if the examiner strikes a conversation and starts chatting… they are comfortable in the car with you driving.
I hope this helped. I swear, it’s not as bad as what your mind is thinking. It’s pretty much like a driving lesson. Just drive as you normally do, just don’t try and rush. If there’s cars parked on the side, go slow. If you see a hazard ahead or a roundabout you aren’t fully comfortable on, slow down and give yourself that extra time to think.
I wish you luck my friend. ♥️

When I first passed I had similar habits, such as taking corners way to fast, being very harsh on the brakes and steering with one hand. I have been driving now for 4 years and am 21, and I drive much better to how I used to.
Keep up the good work Pin. Be safe out there Raaj and don’t fall into too many bad habits in case you lose your license in the first 2 years and have to resit your test. You’ll be fine though as you seem to have the right mindset.

Honestly, the driving habits Raajan shows in this video are so poor. His speed is way to quick into areas of high risk, such are narrow roads with parked cars and junctions. He's thrown his steering technique out of the window, which isn't always a problem, personally I don't see a problem with wax on/wax off when maneuvering, but on junctions you should push pull or cross your hands, either is not a problem with me. I prefer push pull but will occasionally cross my hand, just whichever feels natural at the time. Coasting around corners is a bad habit indeed, but Pin has already touched on this in the video. Some of the poor lane discipline seems to be caused by his quick speed for me. Having 1 hand on the steering is okay, as long as when risk increases you put both hands back on the wheel and are prepared to deal with any issues.
It's okay to enjoy the car you drive, I do the same and I am an enthusiast of driving, but your number 1 responsibility on the roads is to be safe. Remember that driving a car is no joke, you can kill or be killed and anyone involved in that accident would have their life changed forever.

Lovely car that! He's become a lot more confident in his driving. I think it's a completely different ball game when you drive your own car instead of the learner car. That independence makes you far more confident on the road, but yeah, that also comes with a few habits I guess lol.
Things like pulling out of junctions/roundabouts become more second nature in your own car I feel. Parking is still a bit of a nightmare for me though 😅 always nervous when its a busy car park. Great video and was good to see Raajan again!

Pretty quick turnabout for bad habits - but I think it's all a case of confidence and maybe being a bit cocky having a nice first car. I passed in 2020 amidst all of the COVID rearranging. I think the only bad habit I remember from the first few months was doing; Clutch then brake, not brake then clutch when slowing down and stopping - I still catch myself doing it now sometimes, but I imagine I've got a few more bad habits now, but I don't think they're dangerous or unsafe - moreso just quirks like one handed driving, wax-on wax-off in manouvers etc.
First car was a Seat Ibiza FR 1.2tsi, so the same engine as Raajs' golf, and was paying around £2000 for my first year insurnace with no black box. I still have the Ibiza but feel ready for something more powerful, but don't want to lose the car as I've been all over Scotland in it and have the memories and 'first car feeling'.
Advice to Raaj, enjoy the car, but come back down to earth a bit with the overconfidence and lack of observations. Keep yourself and everyone safe, and keep the car safe!

A lot of people have the belief that having a car means freedom where it’s really the opposite, as you’re bound by external payments that you have pay to maintain or place your car.
Let me put it in perspective👇
Here's a list of the payments one may have to make when owning a car in the UK:
      1. Purchase price
      2. Vehicle tax (road tax)
      3. Insurance
      4. Fuel
      5. Maintenance and repairs
      6. Parking fees
      7. Financing payments (if applicable)
      8. Tolls
      9. Car washes
      10. Accessories
These are some of the common expenses associated with owning a car in the UK.

As someone that's learning to drive and have driven on public roads around five times now with my mum, I've ran into a lot of idiots already -_- when people get their licence they just start doing whatever they want and don't care about core basic safety or rules of the road.
It's not deterring me from driving but it is an eye opener considering that all of the basics are still fresh in my mind at the moment, so I can quickly see the faults of all of these drivers I come across that simply just don't care about the rules. The licence is to show you know how to drive safely and properly, not a licence to forget everything you've learnt and do whatever you want.
Nice car though, I'm thinking about a Golf or a Corsa for my first car, nothing too big or flashy, I just want something cheap to run around in for the first few years that can get me from A to B. Repairs and part availability is a big factor too and as I'm 31, my insurance hopefully won't be too high!
