Exactly. Soldiers, though most men had longer hair, wore it up so that people couldn’t grab it. In reality, not only would someone have grabbed her by her hair and yeeted her down to her death-but, like you said, she had no armor. It’s just pointless and stupid.
“Even kingdom hearts two adapted the world of mulan better than... mulan.” That’s probably the most depressingly true sentence I’ve heard from this channel
I want to add something that you didn’t say. The villain in the original Mulan was not one person, but the entire Hun army. They were fighting a war not Shan Yu, but the live action movie made it seem like the only person they were fighting was Bori Khan, and that just ruins the whole tension of the movie. Because in the original Mulan, the tension was high, because they were fighting the Hun army, and it really felt like a war, but in the Live action Mulan, it felt like the only thing they worried about was Bori Khan and the witch! As a twisted bit of optimism, Disney only has so many movies left they can put that live action remake title onto before they have to actually make something new again.
Have they though? I could believe that if Disney hadn't already shown that it's completely willing to make a "live-action" movie with no humans as _The Lion King_ showed. So theoretically *every* cartoon Disney movie not yet done in live-action recently is fair game even if Disney doesn't just move on to doing live-action worsenings of Pixar movies or other properties their pseudo-monopoly has gobbled up (or will). I just can't wait for there to be live-action, utterly corporate versions of _The Rescuers_ and _Up_ and _Wall-E_ that all somehow pander to China's current despotic regime. [/deepest sarcasm]
Actually, they can remake all their old live action movies now, Flight of the Navigator, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Return to Oz, hell, they might even make live action adaptations of Pixar movies at this point.
Not really there are over 3 million Disney owned movies that I know of... don’t we get a Cinderella remake like every other year whether it’s owned by Disney or not
Lmaoo really? I've heard of that, absolutely terrible how the CCP just took over their land and culture. I wonder what the officers and prisoners were thinking when they saw 100+ westernized Chinese people doing stuff in front of gigantic cameras.
Fun fact about Liu Yifei: she is known for being expressionless, because she wants to always look pretty. That's why Mulan never has any emotions in this film. So yeah they really picked the worst actress for Mulan
Isn't that like the *opposite* of acting? The whole point of being an actor is to be able to portray a wide range of emotions and expressions. Removing all expression from her face in an attempt to look pretty cripples her ability as an actor and really limits the roles she can do.
Like showing emotions can sometimes look not all model like and what ever but that what gives it depth... Like how is she an actor but can't show emotions and well... ACT?
Original: Maybe, you are not as strong as everyone else. But you can make up for it by being smart. Work harder, but also focus on what makes you special. Sounds like what happened when they casted Rose Tico, only difference is that with Rose, they basically exploited her and only put her in the movie in the first place for damage control and to please those weirdos on Twitter that think that “diversity” is more important than making a compelling story and great characters, because the people at LucasFilm know that the writing in that trilogy has as much depth as the Shia LaBeouf Transformers movies, but unlike the first 3 Transformers movies, the new SW trilogy doesn’t even have much entertainment value to make up for the poor quality, so they basically said “Let’s shoehorn a token Asian character into this movie, so that every time someone calls out our inferior product, we can publicly insult you on social media and call you “sexist” and “racist”, which makes me feel even worse for Kelly Marie Tran, I may hate the character she played but she did not deserve anything that happened to her, on the other side of the coin, I have no sympathy for the actress who plays Mulan in this movie

Same tbh. The worst part of Endgame for me was the part when ALL female characters stopped fighting alongside a lot of the male characters just to "pose up a storm" (-Tony Stark earlier in the film). The fate of the universe is at stake and they all stop fighting to stand still. They might as well put their hands in a circle and shout "GIRL POWER!". Its blatant pandering that does more harm than good.
@@bazookasniper5167 Yeah that part of the movie sucked me right out of it. It's like, I have no problem with a group shot. But it's the fact that they didn't even try to make sense of it. At least the first avengers movie and age of ultron tried to make it work. Here it's just, "Ok all the characters are scattered out over the battle field, but hear me out. All of them teleport into one place to take a panerama shot, but only the girls! no boys allowed!" No matter what the "message" was, no matter if it was "Pandering" or not. @@Gill_consumes completely agree. As someone who is learning hand animation in school I’m pissed about how little everyone thinks of it. Animation has given this world so much, it’s given Disney so much but for some reason people (despite how bad they are) keep thinking that live action is always better.
Miaya G. Not this live action. I’m talking about how people seem to think that animation is for babies and making something live action is making it better.
Disney needs actors like Edward Norton, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, and...I'm struggling to think of an actress that's super controlling. Anyway, they actually seem to need more performers that will take control of the show since they clearly have no interest in putting in actual effort for box returns (or whatever we can call it now). Disney wants money for little effort... Oh god... They have something in common with me.
The OG Mulan is such a good movie and has such powerful themes. In this remake they literally stripped away the most important message in the OG. Mulan couldn't match the men in strength, but she was determined, and very smart. In the new movie, she has superpowers to be as good of a warrior....
But Kingdom Hearts is basically just rip them off straight from their original films, so it isn't exactly an adaptations. It's more of fanfictions where you shoved your favorite heroes into your favorite franchise
@@ShatteredGlass916 Ah, but this is where Disney comes in again. Original Mulan: Woman can be just as capable as men if given the opportunity Live Action Mulan: Woman can be just as capable as men if they're born with mystical powers that they didn't earn or work for
The emperor himself says he won't find a woman like Mulan in a lifetime. The movie shows a lot about overcoming your disadvantages. It shows about the gender differences but never refuses them.
I feel bad for anyone who still gets excited about Disney live action remakes. But also, why do people still get excited about them, and why does Disney still make them?
Nostalgia is a strong feeling. I’ll admit to feeling nostalgic heading the opening to The Lion King live action but I still criticized the movie to hell. Hell that nostalgia feeling helps me with that. Probably not a good thing as it makes me less open minded tbh but it’s better then blindly watching everything just because of the name attached to it.
I don't understand it either. My sisters are always going on and on about how "stunning" and "innovative" each remake is. They grew up with the originals, and have somehow concluded that the remakes are better in every possible way. They, like so many others, support literally ANYTHING Disney does. It sickens me.
My parents literally said "its very good of em doing live action version of these old movies. I like it" Which i think bcuz some people saw it as revolutionary(?) when they make a cartoon to a real life version. I mean tbh, i can see why people hype for it. Like what the comment above me said, nostalgia can blind us and bias our opinion toward something.
I hate how they pretended they cared about good representation of Chinese culture only to make a movie where the Chi is a weird ass superpower (imagine a movie set in America where the grandma whispers to the protagonist " _yOur bLoOD iS strOng_ " and implies they can use it to become super strong and walk on walls, it makes no sense) , where nearly everything is historically innacurate and where they threw in a witch, of all the things, when witches are typical European folklore.. the hypocrisy is actually hilarious

Like they're full-of-themselves masculine macho blowhards, except the movie claims they're exactly as cool as they think they are.
The funniest thing about the whole "serious, non-musical live-action movie" version of Mulan that Disney and insecure adults that equate dark/serious themes as mature and "cartoons that aren't adult are for babies" was touting as being this revolutionary concept... is that there was already a serious live-action remake of Mulan that wasn't a musical that existed ten years before the Disney remake! It's called Mulan: Rise of a Warrior and it was released in 2009. The cast and crew that worked on the movie are all Chinese, no involvement from Disney or really any white Hollywood person, it was made by Chinese people for Chinese people. And *it* actually *is* more grounded in reality (unlike what Disney claimed Mulan 2019/2020 would be before we found out about the magical Chi bs they put in their film). No musical numbers, no supernatural forces, no animal sidekicks, no pop hits or American tourists jokes. Mulan 2009 was made because (from what I heard at the time) people in China were not too happy with the whitewashing and token mysticism done to their culture and *national hero by Disney in their 1998 animated film. It's honestly worth more of a watch than Disney's Mulan 2020! (*So I've heard conflicting opinions over the years about whether or not the legend of Hua Mulan has any legitimacy; basically the two camps are that Hua Mulan was an actual person, some claiming that Hua Mulan was an actual person while others claim the Hua Mulan legend was based off a real person but her name wasn't Hua Mulan. The other camp is that the legend of Hua Mulan is more akin to figures in American folklore such as Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, etc.)
Johnny Appleseed was a real person. His real name is John Chapman and even during his life he was called "Johnny Appleseed". He really did travel around and plant apple trees. Parts of his life have been exaggerated and mythologized, but he did exist unlike the others you named.
Yep. The original was an ACTUAL feminist movie. This thing is just trying to be woke and trick people into watching. Is just a hollow shell of nothingness
These live-action remakes ARE basically the new direct-to-DVD sequels of this generation, but at least those had the decency to remain direct-to-video where they belonged, not in theaters and treated as anything to be taken seriously. Ugh.
I can't forgive the movie for a simple reason: they completely removed the moment when Mulan cut her hair. There’s actually a far better live-action movie about Mulan that i watched in middle school, called “Mulan: Rise of a Warrior”. It was a whole lot more serious than both the 2020 film and the animated 1998 movie. It was a thousand times more realistic than either one. No “chi” stuff, no dragon or phoenix, just a film version about the legend of the woman who took her father’s place as a soldier, Hua Mulan. From what I’ve seen, there are plenty of good reviews and from what the UA-cam Search Engine has showed me, there are a lot of people who find the 2009 film to be superior to the 2020 disney film, despite how different the 2009 film is to the 1998 animated film (Granted, that was the director, Jingle Ma’s, plan.) It’s a movie for more mature audiences and has a LOT of blood and death. But if you want a look into what the live-action Mulan film should have REALLY looked like, I recommend giving Mulan: Rise of a Warrior a watch. Also, make sure you have tissues on hand, just in case.

Fun fact about Liu Yifei: she is known for being expressionless, because she wants to always look pretty. That's why Mulan never has any emotions in this film. So yeah they really picked the worst actress for Mulan
A human pos, she really is.
So not only a crappy person, a crappy actor too. Great.
ACT?

I hate misogyny hidden as female empowerment. "The only way mulan can be as strong as men is super powers! Look how strong she is, aren't you empowered 🥰🤗🥰"
It's bad cinematography and a immersion breaking moment in a really good movie, and it's a shame that they decided to keep it.
@@Gill_consumes completely agree. The thing is, theyre presenting Captain Marvel as a "strong independent woman who dont need no man" and then minutes after she flies straight through a city sized spaceship without a scratch, she needs the help of all her 'sisters' so that she can carry the gauntlet. She could just blast off at light speed but nooo thats not an option, she needs support from her fellow women. Like seriously wtf. Shes already unfairly (and undeservingly) over powered as it is.

Because they could've made her into an interesting character with an interesting story and still kept the messages, just, you know been a little more subtle about it.
But oh well, what is done is done, I'll see how the new movies pan out and if they are stinky, well, endgame was a good ending

The other camp is that the legend of Hua Mulan is more akin to figures in American folklore such as Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, etc.)
I have Never ever read or heard of the characters you mention at the end of your comment.

From what I’ve seen, there are plenty of good reviews and from what the UA-cam Search Engine has showed me, there are a lot of people who find the 2009 film to be superior to the 2020 disney film, despite how different the 2009 film is to the 1998 animated film (Granted, that was the director, Jingle Ma’s, plan.)
It’s a movie for more mature audiences and has a LOT of blood and death. But if you want a look into what the live-action Mulan film should have REALLY looked like, I recommend giving Mulan: Rise of a Warrior a watch.

“We’re pirates, we dont know what that means!”-Hondo Onaka
Gotta do it the Hondo way , still i hated it, it was so bad
A reminder that all the changes was to appeal to a china based audience, yet it just made the movie floop thare too
The best reviews are the "Chinese person reviews Mulan".
Those were made to PLEASE Chinese people? I thought I heard people complaining about how the design department did little to no research on the culture and got costumes, colors, patterns and customs all wrong and the whole movie is just a jumbled mix of different eras and dynasties without picking a single spot to base their references from.
@@pokaay3163 Thats why it flopped, the changes thay made had a good reason but very, VERY poor execution.
It actually flopped in China. The demographic they were pandering too even hated it.
I think the movie got banned in China
Disney sucks at live-action, plain and simple
Sure thing.
nah it doesn't. some live action films were really good, like maleficent or cinderella, even the jungle book and the lion king.
@ninette lion king felt like a boring national geographic documentary. it was so dumb seeing a full grown realistic lion singing on screen. the only reason why it exists was so they could show people how they make really good realistic cgi animals, which will probably age poorly.
@@swain-Ix1tv Lion king sucked.....Aladdin and jungle book ans Cinderella sns beauty and the beast ans maleficent are rhe best live action remakes
@@jarrodedson5441 i guess that's my opinion. i think it was a decent film but i don't like how scar looked like
Piracy is for people who don’t wanna spend $30 plus a subscription to watch a mediocre movie.
Don't you think calling it mediocre is giving it too much credit.
I really liked Aladdin, didn’t like the lion King, but Milan was a straight dumpster fire
The Italian city? :v
MILAN 😂😂😂😂
For me, the Aladdin remake was kinda mediocre for me. My friend loves it and once said on this channel that it was her favorite remake, but for me, they kind of ruined a lot of stuff. Especially the villain, he was really cool and threatening in the original, but they made him so bland and awful in the remake, and he didn't even get to turn into a snake and sing an evil version of Prince Ali. Also, they unnecessarily put in a girl power song for Jasmine... not saying Speechless is bad as a song but... though I will admit, it IS one of the better remakes I've seen, and at least it's got an awesome version of the Genie. I really like how Will puts his own talent and flavor into the new one, just like with Robin in the original!~
Ah yes Milan
Aladdin is awesome, the animated one and the remake, Lion King was eh, and Mulan, well, I won't be watching it 😂
mulan, more like poolan
(get it guys because when you reference poop with a form of media it is bad)

im 19 and i actually still play wizard 101, and so i thought the game opened over youtube and i got confused lol.
yooo i miss that game so much played it when i was 9 im 19 now turning 20 good to see its still going :D
me too I was searching for comments and I thought I was the only one who heard wizard101 music, I thought my game was open as well LOL nice to see another player ^^
I just went back when it was free for last winter and the music was very distracting
Thank fuck I'm not the only one who noticed the music lmao
The wizard 101 music makes me feel so nostalgic
I KNOW
I was genuinely about to ask if this was the wizard101 music
I was thinking the exact same thing
i couldnt even here what the dude was saying my brain just amplified the music in my head and i started looking for my laptop lol
@@sleepyfox8970 lmaooo same
The movie did change the word 'hun' to the appropriate word, but then they added the witch and that kinda took away the good boy point :|
anybody else get hit with a wave of nostalgia because he used the wizard 101 menu music as the background music
Absofrickinglutly
Omg right???
Omfg yes I had to rewatch the video cause I needed to confirm that I was hearing it right lol
I was wondering what memory it was triggering. My god
@@Gingerman82 Haha
Yeah never mind the interment camps and the actual human rights abuses, this movie just sucked. My favorite line from the movie was "I would prefer to be executed" when she reveals she's a women for no reason, and the line that infuriates me to no end was the butchered
line about 2 rabbits running side by side from the original ballad that almost perfectly sums up Mulan's moral that they completely dropped the ball with
The shapeshifter: “I could kill you in the blink of an eye”
The shapeshifter later on . . . . . Dies without doing a thing . . . . . Yes that’s a good character who has clearly contributed a lot to this movie
I hope Disney doesn’t make live action remakes of pixar films
I hope they give up on live action altogether after realizing how bad this one is.
ItsTheCamaroGuy nah, they can screw animation just as badly. It’s just that the time frame of bad films and live action focus match up
if they do that i might just jump off the roof
I feel like a toy story life action would definetly give several children and even adults a new phobia
@@geovanibenjamin8940 it would be a trainwreck but probably a real funny one
Dang, you and schafrillas should have had a collab and just annihilated this movie in one video
I would’ve fucking loved that omg

Also Disney: Haha magic chi goes brr
My friend watched the pirated version and was disappointed and said she wanted her 2 hours back.

You didn't only need a Disney+ subscription, you also needed a premier access subscription. Thanks, Disney. I love having subscriptions to be able to utilise part of my subscriptions.

24FoN: Let’s get down to business
I see what you did there lol
In the most mediocre way possible: it feels like a year 4 school play where both the kids, teachers and parents don’t give a shit.
Screw this, I'm just watching the original Mulan. I haven't in years and this makes me miss it dearly.
Imagine the gru meme:
Make more kids movies.
Make 3D animation for starters.
Make 3D remakes of classics.
Make them live actions despite the fact that most of the classics only have animals and magical beings.

"Hot Ip Man guy" has to be the most accurate description of Donnie Yen I've ever heard.
Remember how Mulan was such a bad soldier that her commander legit told her to leave? At night? Like, "you're such a lost cause, I want you to leave this camp and skip all the formalities and bureaucracy that would keep you here longer. Get out." Remember that?
And then, after being told to leave, she decided to stay and not only work harder to prove herself, but also figure out the lesson the arrow at the top of the pole was supposed to teach? The soldiers were tasked with reaching the arrow, but they had two weights on their arms, and Mulan figured out that she needed to _use_ the weights to reach the arrow, not just have them weigh her down.
Remember how powerful a moment that was?
Imagine that happening with magic chi powers. Using inner strength, determination, and discipline to reach your goals? Nah, if you want to achieve things, you need magic powers.
