  • The dissonant intervals that we identified in last weeks video will be put to good use this time! When writing the catchiest hypnotic techno riffs in a sequencer, be constantly aware of the musical powers you're bending! ⚡️
Lukas shows you how music theory can boost your synthline writing - using just the ML-185 sequencer and Ableton lives chord tool.

That's exactly what I did today. Combined the ML-185 Sequencer with Chord and Operator. There are so many possibilities to create good sounds!

The quality of my sequences has improved drastically simply by investing the 18 minutes it took to watch this. My immense gratitude. Im sure there are others would appreciate a follow up video on pad/atmosphere creation that compliments these intervals OR how to determine your scale given the values set in your seq, Chord and so on.

So glad this popped up in my feed - really really useful. Loved the idea of the Chord device to add extra dissonance across the sequence, never thought of that before. Subscribed and looking forwards to going through past videos and looking forward to seeing more. Thanks again 👏🏻

Absolutely brilliant tutorial! I always wondered why everything I made sounded like melodic techno using the Phrygian mode. I'm officially turning off my scales now and just working in intervals.

The ML-185 also works with push 3 stand-alone now so very handy.

Good content as always ml185 one of my favorite sequencers, sometimes I even try to shorten the sequence, e.g. to 3 or 5 notes

Especially, picking odd numbers can produce highly interesting melodic patterns!

6:33 - if there is no root note, how to program the bass line?

i wish that ML185 would not reset every time i load a project... the workaround is annoying (randomize then do 8 times ctrl-z)

I think you can just record it to a MIDI channel

you can just save your sequence as a preset and just reload it when open up your project
