Katinka.....I think you are right when you say that things have to be comfy. I always look for two things natural fabrics and comfortable styles. Love all the things you knitted...you are so talented...I cannot believe that you remember patterns and can pick up knitting needles and just sit down and knit. Amazing....
I'm glad you like the knitting! I find it a really relaxing and satisfying. My spacial awareness is very good and I think that is why I can just knit things.
I just love your fashion sense!! I call your clothing "realistic" clothes because they are things that I would realistically wear😁. I really enjoy your videos and your pleasant personality!
I have a sweater cloak that belonged to my mom and I absolutely love it. I would never make me one like it because I don't like my arms hanging out like that either, but it does remind me of my mom!🥰
Hi Katinka! We had some fresh snow also and I opened the door to step out in it my husband said get back in the house! Hahaha❤ You're knitted and sewn garments are awesome!❤
Happy New Year, Katina! Your knitted items are wearable with anything; always a good idea to keep some knit wear in basic colors. Maybe the cloak needs to be a bit longer and lower your arm openings. I love Mandarine’s designs. I have several patterns. I have Little Twigs which I would love to make in a brownish color. Yours is a pretty color🥰
You’re my kind of people! Down to earth wearables. I am making my shirts in to tunics as I am covering my bum. Sometimes hard to find material. So I am always on the hunt .
@cherilouie4608 Hi Cheri , down to earth is all I want to be and connect with others like me! Tunics are the answer to cover our bum's! 😄. It is hard to find fabric, but sometimes I look for things that is many sizes to big and then use that fabric to make what I need or want.
I find like you, that my deep winter outerwear is purchased. I live in New England and it is essential to have one very warm, wind resistant and waterproof jacket. I do sew my base layers, I have leggings sewn in both supplex and organic cotton waffle knit that I use as long underwear or tights. I use handmade silk camisoles for a top insulating layer. Like you, I find a petticoat very practical so I can wear my dresses in winter. I should make more! I also sew tricot skirt linings into dresses for winter so they don't catch on tights or leggings. I may try to knit a balaclava soon, but I am much better at sewing than knitting. Thank you for your lovely content ❤
@paulawing2502 hi Paula, I need to make some silk camisoles, I love the frrl of silk and how well it makes the outer wear look. My research have led me to seal ski jackets and boots, apparently it works really well for outer wear in really cold places, but I do not see myself using it in my current lifestyle. It is interesting to hear your thoughts.
Katinka, when I used to wear cloaks I have gloves what went up to my elbows, both knitted and suede ones I made - no more cold arms. As for the wind I had a "belt" that went inside the lining right round me and did up with a bow I think or maybe a button that did up inside at the front that really helped with drafts - hope this helps, best wishes from England, UK
The red dress with the red cape is soooo cute! I know what you mean about the arms though. My grandmother made me a hooded cloak out of a pattern similar to Simplicity 5794 in wool gabardine that I prefer to my capes with the t-rex hand openings. I find it really practical--I just move my arm through the opening, and I love throwing it on to walk the dog as it's like wearing a blanket.
@kaitk3802 thank you 😊. I really like that dress. I am looking into the cloak option for my next project. Numerous people have been saying that it works really well
Hi Katinka, you have put together such a versatile winter wardrobe. Everything goes together so well. I love your cape, however I can understand your reservations, particularly in respect to the heaviness of the fabric. I wonder if when you are out walking etc, you could just let you arms down by your side under the jacket - and then just put your arms through the openings when needed. It does look lovely and warm and really suits you. I sew most of my own clothes and similar to you, I estimate 80% would be hand made. Wishing you a pleasant weekend. 🌸
I am so impressed with the %of your wardrobe that is handmade! The cloak feels like it is strangling me after a while I my arms are under it. I think part of the problem is the heavy fabric.
What a fabulous round up of your amazing talents!! I agree with all your comments about being comfy and also upcycling. As for coats- I made the Tessuti Richmond coat in a lightweight wool and lined it. It is not overly heavy but very roomy and comfy. I can throw it over the thickest of jumpers. Expensive pattern but I love it. I especially love how you transformed your blouses just by altering the hemline. And yes, I would say approx 75% of my winter wardrobe is hand made. The ready to wear items are jeans, jumpers that are a few years old and a few puffer coats. Next year I will have more hand made jeans- that’s the plan anyway😊. Happy New Year . Lynne
I will have to look at the coat that you mentioned. I have not been able to make a pair of jeans that I loved, so on that one, the jury is still out. But regarding the hemline change, that is a very easy fix. Have fun with curating your hand made wardrobe!
Katinka Happy New Year to you. I have listened carefully to you recently and you have made me stop and think about buying new clothes. The issue around fabric and landfill is huge so I’m very carefully choosing what I wear and how I wear my clothes now. I am 71 and still like to look ‘trendy’ but also want to help my grandchildren and future families live a better life so I wanted you to know I hear what you are saying. Thank you my friend (I hope I can call you that) 😊❤
Carol, you are definitely in the friend category and I am so glad to hear that you are thinking about your clothes 😊. We can still look trendy even if we don't buy new all the time.
Happy Healthy New Year! Loved this video. Inspirational. I love dresses & am just learning to knit. Upcycling excellent. Looking forward to seeing next video. Cheers!
A Happy Healthy New Year to you! Knitting and upcycling? You’re on the path to becoming a sustainable fashion icon! Can't wait for our next style adventure together!
Thank you for this video. I love all of your handmade clothes and your gavroche cap reminds me I should wear mine too.... I love love your dresses and the green jacket, and the corduroy pants. Your black jersey is one of my favourites too. I agree the cloak has a t-rex issue... but it is beautiful. So, I agree, you definitely can replace a fast fashion wardrobe for a handmade one... if you are a good seamstress and knitter, which you are. God bless you this year with all kind of blessings.
Haha, the cloak definitely has a "T-Rex" vibe! Maybe I should start calling it the Jurassic Fashion line! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Hi Katinka, loved seeing your winter makes! Your dresses are so pretty. I really love your brown hand knitted vest, just gorgeous. It was nice to see such variety and how you're able to make almost everything you need. I'm pretty far from being able to say that myself, but hope to get closer each year. Happy New Year!
@JustMeAndMyFabric Thank you, Angela, after seeing your Last video, I think you are well on your way to have a big part of your wardrobe made by you 😀. I can not believe how much I love the vest. It is so versatile and warm.
I love how your style flatters your figure so beautifully. I'm in Canada and I agree with layers and wool. Many layers including layers of skirts. I was thinking your cloak needs a muff! I added upcycled wool sweater cuffs to my vintage wool coat when it was too breezy in the arms. Maybe you could do that or make them removable if you don't want them permanently. Or wear long fingerless gloves like sleeves! Do your thrift stores have lots of thermal base layers? I wear wool base layers daily and can always find them here. Love your knitted pieces!! You're so talented! 💕
@AmandaIsAwesome thank you, the muff is a good Idea. I haven't been able to find wool base layers here but I think in the states close to Canada, one should be able to find them. Thank you for visiting with me.
I like your cloak, but not the way the arms are. I have one that is long and no arm holes. Basically a rectangle with a neck area cut out and a hood. There is a place to make it look like sleeves but I prefer to not to button that part. I can't stand a coat....Love all the makes you showed. The band was a great idea on the blue dress. Thank you for the idea with the pink top. Changing the hem from straight across to curved. The blue top with lace is lovely.
Happy New Year from England, UK! Thoroughly enjoyed your video, and practical approach to clothing. I am 5’2” and have to shorten everything, the tip about the curved hem is such a good one - why hadn’t I thought of that! 😊
Do you mind if I ask if there is a reason you couldnt try making a pattern off the bought pants you are comfortable in or how they differ from what you can make? Im sensitive to synthetic fibers, and plus sized, so finding options in stores is not working, but I also am a new sewist and have to size up even Cashmerette patterns at this point. Add to that I am hand sewing and Im trying to understand pitfalls and such before wasting time, energy, and money to make stuff that won't work. Thank you!
You can copy patterns from things that you have, the most accurate way is to unpick the item and iron the pieces and then cut the new one. You can also copy the pattern from an existing piece, I do it sometimes but have grown a bit lazy. I also think I need to go down the pants making rabbit hole in 2025 . Unfortunately, mistakes is how we learn, and for that reason I would make a mockup from old sheets or cheap fabric and get the pattern right before I make the final project. But most importantly, have fun in your sewing journey .

You can measure the sleeves ex to make sure you do not over do it.
Ear wax tastes very bitter. My grampa scratched his ears with the pencil’s eraser. As kids, we would play White House and pretend to take calls. We’d hold the pencil in our mouth sometimes and wonder why it tasted horrible and wonder why the pencil would smear our writing. We would scrub the eraser on the carpet to get it clean. 😮
