They don't make pop stars like they used to, do they? Shame... PS: Mr. Saville OBE, that is some AWESOME and TERRIFYING bling you're sporting! Kudos to you!
A Total Legend.........You don't have to prance around the stage to sell a song......Alvin Stardust had it all.....Stance Pose and Glamour.....Bring Back The 70's.......
My Coo Ca Choo and Jealous Mind sold out so quickly that Red Dress was the first Alvin single that I bought. What a year that was. A fantastic song and video thanx!
This whole show looks fantastic, I wish it could be uploaded in its entirety. It has the Bay City Rollers, ABBA, Stevie Wonder, The Osmonds, Jim Stafford, Wizzard, The Stylistics and of course Alvin!!!!
Am i so glad, that i been to seen him in March in Skegness. Just one of my heroe's from the 70's. Best decade of music EVER. and thats from and Elvis fan.
Saw Alvin (or Shane Fenton as he was then) in 1971 at the Cumbria Club Millom, he was stood next to me at the bar. He wore brown patchwork leather trousers I remember, I really wanted a pair, but didn't have the nerve to ask him where he got them from...haha. He was blonder then too, but a class act nontheless!
@@lewisner Great question ! Actually it was a different Pete Shelley who had a hit with 'Love me Love my dog ' in the early seventies and wrote other songs for Alvin.
I don't think this was at all a hit on American radio... Did this have a retro sound, and look, when it first came out? I think 1974 was also the year David Essex 'Rock On' came out (which *was* a bit US hit)... it reminds me of that a bit. Similar kind of vibe.
i dont quite beleive his ohhh ohhh. no attitude. and like many 70s pop songs it sounds like hes singing about rape. american british cross overs are facinating. it often works well both ways. shame it didnt this time
There is something wrong with this version of "red dress"; I bought this song on single at the time (1974) and the sound of the original version is far more greater.

I believe he started of his career as Shane Fenton 🎵🎶🎤

ihad such a crush on alvin stardust when i was 18 i bought all his records what a shame just like elvis the world will miss him
He got the menacing look and the black leather from the great Gene Vincent.Even the mike twirl/pointing thing.I think Alvin would have to admit that.
i can relate to that, been on medicine since 74, it keeps me alive, but Alvin and his songs make it worthwhile
I agree . Alvins performance was great there only yhimg that spoilt t was the pervert that introduced ir
Awww!! That song gets me going even now
This fantastic
There is a bit where Alvin forgets to mime, and his face is a picture approx. 1.57, so funny
I should have been there but I went somewhere else, yes you right, Alvin is very nice person, nothing sinister at all!
RIP Alvin.

Alvin credits Gene Vincent for a lot of his stage performance
That`s my friend Jen dancing in the close up behind him.. how funny.
Love that sound !
he was so perfect
We used to sing 'Who's that spasmo in the red dress!' Not very PC I know, but as 11 year olds in '74, we thought it was funny!

Alvin was brilliant (as was his writer Peter Shelley).
Was that Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks ?
@@lewisner Great question ! Actually it was a different Pete Shelley who had a hit with 'Love me Love my dog ' in the early seventies and wrote other songs for Alvin.
@Mark Roose great answer, I had forgotten that song and the other Pete Shelley.

They used to have to rerecord the song sometimes for TOTP - due to Musician Union rules so almost certainly a rerecording
How nice to see Jimmy Saville! The good old days
True, but that was part of his appeal, black leather and lookin mean and moody. Pity there's no1 with that appeal at the mo.
id say jim morrison did it before him
And Dave Berry before him...
