To keep the brake fluid compressed and sealed from the outside, zip-tie the brake lever to the grips. Just don't do it too tight so there's not too much pressure on the o-rings. You basically just want to pull the lever in enough (about 50%) so the vent hole in the push rod of the master cylinder is sealed up. I guess Ducati designed the vent holes too large for casual street use, so the brake fluid deteriorates quicker than normal.
I have the same SF848 but yellow. Absolutely loving this piece of art. Completely agree with all the points you've mentioned. We kind of have to deal with it. I also don't really get the gear transmission ratio - it's so unpractical, in the city I almost always ride in the first 2 gears. The mileage can be a problem - I was expecting the fuel trip to reach at least 30 miles, but the bike stopped after 20 so I was like WTF. Had to hitchhike to the next gas station and back. So guys, watch out for gas station if the fuel lamp goes on.
I have a SF since 2013 and never have rust, and problem with the breaks (I'm living in Austria and the bike is standing from middle October till end April). The storage, the heat under the seat, i totally agree. The thing that I don't like, are the clutch, it is really hard, limit too hard when you ride on mountain roads, and the black plastic covers between the legs and under the seat. They are really cheap manufactur and bend themselves after a while. For the performance, i changed the ECU so I do not have this problem. It is anyway a really nice bike to ride. And last thing, there is no ABS. Biggest minus point for me.
Hello your video and bunch others help me decide to buy this bike few things you mentioned. The tool kit is really difficult to take out. The little bit of rust on the frame the same place you mentioned. I have one question my bike came with termi exhaust does the bike also comes with mapping of ecu to match the exhaust? I am from Pakistan and this is the one and only Streetfighter here.
I have a '14 SF848 and had to wait 3 months to bring it over to Oahu due to no M/C being taken at the port. My brakes luckily worked great after sitting for almost 3 months however my clutch did have some air in it and I had to bleed it. I agree with the lack of storage and I keep my info like you under the passenger seat. I'll see how it holds up here in Hawaii compared to Phoenix as far as the clutch cover and the frame so thanks for pointing that out. I sold my '06 Hayabusa and my '06 MV Agusta F4 1000S(horrible for city driving, overheats almost immediately in traffic)and purchased mine in '15 brand new, my only disappointment is that I wish it was the S model. I've also been tracking my gas mileage on Fuelly since I've purchased it and I average 43.9 mpg and I always seem to ride much faster than I need to so I am definitely happy with that.
Well, welcome to the islands! I have only seen two other streetfighters here, an older black-framed red one, and an all black one posted on Craigslist.
I have exactly the same Ducati Streetfighter 848 also in red but the first thing I got into when I purchased it was changing the ugly look of the original rear sprocket flange cover.I remove it,took it to a garage and have it painted red.I also bought a new set of golden nuts and a black sprocket.I hate the look of the original grey set.Sorry for my English.Hope you understand what I mean.
No, it has traction control where the bike will decrease throttle if the wheel slips (adjustable from 0 to 9 in the settings), mine is set to 4. But it doesn't have abs to my knowledge
I'll keep that in mind and not ride one then..haha. I parked beside a 2011 SF 1098 at the grocery store. Identical except for the frame color. It's a nice bike for sure
I have the black/yellow SF 848, same year. I also use it to commute. Getting stuck in traffic during a hot summer day while getting extra heat from the radiator fans is a purgatory, but once reaching the motorway, all is forgotten :) I disliked the stiffness of the clutch and changed the master cylinder to Oberon recently. Problem solved. One more dislike that I have is the transmission. Downshifting is troublesome sometimes. Cannot figure out why.
I love that color! I don't mind the stiffness of the clutch, but I'll look into the mod. I haven't had any issues with downshifting, what is it specifically?
@@LegitRaceCraft stimes downshifting when going to full stop, I cannot shift to 1st gear. I just did about 40km and all went well. I guess the gearbox has its own head :)
Damn wish the sf didnt have the same problem as the regular 848 evo. Hot af. Came here to see if it was remedied in this model. Guess not. Good review.
Really? I was thinking it would have been remedied in the sbk848 and Evo since the exhaust is under tail. I think the sbk848 has a heatshield under the seat, mine definitely does not
@@LegitRaceCraft the seat was hot but managable. What got a nice roasting was my leg all the time. Definetly hated using it as a daily even though I liked how it just leaned effortelessly on the curves.
In 2015 I bought a 2012 848 SF. My clutch cover looks absolutely brand new to this day. Yours looks absolutely horrible. Never seen something like that. That must have been an error at production.
Yeah, every other 848 I've seen online has a nice clutch cover. It doesn't matter anymore, I've installed a ducabike clear cover (and posted a video on that) so it's good now
Weird....never heard that about the brakes, nor have I experienced that with mine. Mine is a 2009, and I bought it brand new. I've never had to bleed my brakes for air. Never once. But mine is a F1098S. So maybe you have a different master cylinder or faulty slave??
you shouldn't be 'really' spinning any motorcycle on its sidestand. If they were designed to do that, they would be equipped with a bearing underneath the pad.
You lost me at the side stand. Many modern bikes attach the side stand to the engine, since the engine is a stressed frame component. I've seen guys try to be cool and spin their bike around, only to have it crack the aluminum engine case or break the side stand and drop the bike.
That may explain why a lot of modern bikes don't have a kickstand shaped in a way to allow you to spin the motorcycle. I know for a fact that bikes that I had in the past had a kickstand mounted to the frame and that same bike had a kickstand made for spinning the bike.
Thanks for the comment! The thumbnail is just to get attention. I loved the bike when making the video and still do. I don't say that I hate the bike in the video. And more than 848cc on a bike without a windscreen is too much, I'd never get the 1098 for that reason alone. It just accelerates faster, top speed has too much wind resistance
I think you missed the part in the video where I said that I still love this bike :). Nothing is perfect, everything has flaws. Honestly though, I made this video for the views

2:25 bloody hell that engine casing rust is insane. I have similar on my Hyperstrada but not that bad.

I have a similar one. Spot on feed back, shitty mpg, no storage, but i just wanna add, Rides hotttttt especially in stop-n-go.
Lol. Yup

Biggest thing I hated about my SF848: It's not a SFS 1098. That always drove me nuts after I rode the dry clutched larger 1098s.

Some good info in this video 👍
Did you ever change low radiator? My STF eats low radiators but I’m in love with her anyway 😍😍😍😍😍
Get a rad guard, the likes of evo tech performance do them for upper and lower rad guard

@@LegitRaceCraft it was much worse before that.
Hmm, I'll look into this then. I wonder if it's common. If so I'll address mine and fix it ahead of time
What happend to your clutch cover, the surface looks like my skin when i was 15. :)
Haha. If your skin looked like that, then you have a condition! Lol. Hawaii weather..it's oxidation under the paint
About the brakes, must be a Ducati thing. I have a monster and it happened when it sat for a few months when I moved across the states.
Mine is super soft now. My clutch slave went out a month ago and I ordered parts to fix it. Since it's been sitting it has gotten very soft.

Maybe you should get a Japanese bike. Ducati isn’t for you.
I had one some years ago.
That Bike feels like it has no power und no torque.
It´s a shame but it made no fun to ride it properly.
Omg...what an I....,you are not an Italian Guy,you didnt have a plan about that great bikes, better u drive a japanese or a American bike:))))lol
