  • This is part 1 of 2 episodes from our very special interview with ‘Aussie Icon' Merrick Watts! We were so grateful to have Merrick on our show where we get to hear how he is blending Wine, People, and Comedy. We get to hear about Merrick's Wine Journey while he graciously shares 3 x wines from his personal cellar which were 24 - 28 years old. These included a 2000 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, a 2002 Rockford Rifle Range Cabernet Sauvignon, and a 1996 Rockford SVS Moorooroo Shiraz, all from Barossa Valley South Australia. We also compared the 2000 Basket Press Shiraz to a 2019. Merrick is a legend. Make sure you watch his latest comedy show ‘An Idiots Guide to Wine Volume 2’, which is currently touring around Australia. Also check out the other wine and comedy events that he runs as part of Grapes of Mirth (grapesofmirth.com.au ).

@@TheWinedUp You know, you can join the Rockford membership & work your way towards Stone Wall. It takes some time, but is well worth it.

Great show guys. Need you to help me out though. I've always thought you decant wine up to 10 years old but not much older. Hearing Merrick say all those were double decanted, can someone set me straight😂
    Cheers

Thank you. Sounds like a good topic for us to cover on an episode! Our understanding is decant those old wines to separate the sediment and let it breath a bit but not for too long (less than 30 - 60 min).

@@TheWinedUp It's always a good idea to stand the bottle upright for a couple of hours (or overnight) prior to decanting an aged wine. It allows any sediment to sink to the bottom of the bottle. Decanting is pretty foolproof then.
