  • Meet Dahlia ‘Timmy’ which I named after our farm cat because they are nearly the same color. This dahlia has some wonderful qualities: early to flower, the blooms are born in clusters, the color is a warm, soft peachy-gold, the flowers are light and loose making them great for arranging and it doesn’t get too tall. But as the season progresses some of the full flowers will start popping their centers to reveal a single golden eye. Not my favorite trait.
I’ll keep her no matter what to grow here on the farm but I’d love to know what you think and if you’d grow her in your garden. It’s ok if you don’t think she’s a keeper - I want your honest opinion.
We've been working hard on creating some special dahlia seed mixes and I'll be sharing more about our plans to make seed available in the newsletter soon.

I do love it’s color and look. I think that even w the somewhat more slender stem and occasional recession it’s a great flower for home cutting gardens. I’m not a commercial grower so this is to say I’d happily grow it for my own use without any qualms. A delightful beauty!

Completely agree with the other commenters- she’s beautiful and the fact that you get surprises makes it all the more delightful! Plus- with the singles, maybesome bees can come pollinate and what fun to see what her seeds would produce.

The "imperfections" make Timmy even more interesting and special as far as I'm concerned. I think you should market it (so that I can buy one). Keep up your fabulous work. The flowers you've bred have so much personality! I love all of the ones I've seen.

I really love when u can get variety in a plant. It’s like a bit of a surprise. I love it. I got some dahlias seeds from you guys as well and I can’t wait to see what they will look like. I think it’s more interesting that way ❤

Yes Timmy is a great choice to keep. I love the color and variety of the different blooms from the same stock- open vs tight blooms. Of course for bouquets- any women wouldn’t mind the variety! Keep please❤️

Absoultly stunning flower! I like the slight imperfections being a past florist, I would include in arragements might just have to put a piece of wire to keep it from breaking.

I love the color! I would grow Timmy, absolutely. I don’t mind a few blown centers (makes for easier pollination). It stands up well in your trial garden, so stems, although thin, seem sturdy enough.

What an absolutely exquisite colour. Thankyou for your video it has given me hope that what I was setting out to do from seed dahlia can absolutely make a beautiful and repeatable bloom and tuber. So many other videos online had started to make me feel despair thinking I had been growing these from seed and caring for them like my babies and that I would now have to throw all of this work into the compost bin. There is renewed hope that one day I too can have a field of dahlias that I started from seed. Magnificent x

I love a flower with a quirky personality - sometimes it will just do its own thing. And Timmy is beautiful so for me, definitely worth it!

I think it is a winner. I have a dahlia that has thin stems, but still works fine in bouquets. I think to it would be fun to have doubles and singles on one plant. Your kitty Timmy is very pretty! 😊

I like the color and shape an occasional irregular flower and thin stem adds character and I think Timmy has lots of that (just don’t know what you’re going to get).

I need more Timmy so maybe this one I need to buy!! And if you do new versions similar to Timmy you can maybe name them Timmy 2.0 or whatever as you go! So far I have one pot with dirt in it from before COVID time on apartment balcony. I have water. So now I need to do see shopping. There may be hope for all of us being able to grow flowers!

Actually it’s an added quality…the variation is beautiful too, so reverting to a single seem great. The thin stems might be a problem for a cut flower bouquet though, does it have a floppy head on that stem…that would not be good. Thank you for these utube visits…love seeing your farm and you💗🌸

I love it. My only concern is if the stems are to thin to hold up to insertion in arrangements and if they are actually able to hold the flower up throughout the vase life. If those are not serious issues, Timmy is a keeper.

She’s a beauty. I have no problem with an occasional blown centre. What is important to me (after colour and form) is: it productive and how well does the flower hold in a bouquet? From your field of Timmy, she appears very productive. How’s the vase life?

The dahlias I plant in my flower gardens are usually different than those I plant in my cut flower gardens. I can picture Timmy among so many beautiful, complimentary annuals and perennials. Timmy's thinner stems and the occasional single blooms would not discourage me from a tuber or two, or ten. The color is gorgeous.

  • @cathybragg1279
    @cathybragg1279 10 місяців тому

How is the blossom attachment? Thin stems are ok as long as the blooms stay attached. Love the color and as a florist I don't mind an occasional open center. Most consumers don't know an open center isn't desirable and actually love them. I think its a winner!!

Love the color. It looks like it might do well in containers. I really like creighton honey in a container with a blue salvia and some lantana. I am wondering how you would compare the two. Sound like this is alittle taller and flower shape alittle different but do you think it would hold up in that application.

An occasional blown center and thin stems aren't deal breakers. So many people put up with cafe au lait and that variety has even more faults for many growers (late to bloom, horrible vase life, gets genetically degraded all the time, etc)
