Update: The Thunder are also trading Vasilije Micic plus 2 second round picks to the Hornets together with Tre Mann and Davis Bertans Did OKC win this trade?
Trading Micic for a guy who may never play for us is a mistake. Great move by Presti. He flipped Bertrans and picked up a temporary asset in Hayward. Gordon Hayward was a really good player before his recent injury, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he meshes with the 2nd best team in the Western Conference
You all seem infatuated with Utah's Hayward. He hasn't been that guy in 7 years. He had 1 good season, then was injured for the next 3, rarely playing, and looking like a shell of himself when he did. I've watched him every game, and really don't understand what Presti saw in him, except that expiring contract.
I mean Bertans, Micic and Mann for Hayward is a no brainier. Bertans is averaging 2.9 ppg, Micic 2.5 and Tre Mann 3.8. Hayward could potentially get more than that by himself. Also we probably have too deep of a bench anyway so flipping three guys way down the bench for a guy who could potentially become the teams sixth man is good business. And we still have guys like Wallace, Joe, J Will, Wiggins, Kenrich and Dieng on the bench with Hayward so the team is still crazy deep.
Those numbers are because Daigneault's never played them. Mann was shooting 75% from 3 recently in OKC, and still wasn't given minutes. That's ignorance by Daigneault. As a starter in Charlotte Mann looks amazing, and has already outplayed Tre Young and Tyrese Halliburton. I promise you Hayward is NOT better than Mann. Why do you think Charlotte tried so hard for 2 years to trade him? He's always injured, never made Charlotte better, and was being carried by LaMelo and rookie Brandon Miller.
I don't mind the trade all that much. Win win for both sides - Tre could absolutely be a star for Charlotte if utilized correctly, he wasn't going to play with our guard depth. Hayward will be a good vet granted he stays healthy, he may re-sign on a contract friendly deal with us seeing as he is already plenty cashed up coming off this current contract. Vet experience and dump Micic/Bertan's salaries. Not bad.
OKC didn't know what they had in Tre Mann. Hayward hasn't been healthy or productive in 3 years! Immediately as a STARTER for Charlotte in his first 3 games, Tre's already been far more impactful than Hayward. He's nearly had a triple double every game, outplayed Tyrese Haliburton and Tre Young holding both under 15 pts, and was a major contributor in 3 straight wins, each by larger margins than the Hornets had all season! OKC got nothing out of this but an expiring contract.
We love Tre in OKC believe me. We know how talented he is and we know he's gonna be a star..But we've maxed out his fit with the team. How I wish he could have stayed but it was time for him to play for another team. He was out of the rotation for OKC
I think when we drafted Tre I was thinking he will be an All-Star once. Not sure if it evrer happens but I think it is still realistic. The potential is huge but there was no future with roster loaded in OKC. Hornets got a really good deal for the rebuild. I hope Hayward plays for OKC in playoffs and then it's win/win for everybody.
@@Urukgali I think Mann just didn't get enough minutes in OKC to prove himself. OKC is deep enough that maybe it doesn't matter to let a guy like that go, and will be fine regardless... CLT needed help, and Mann getting more opportunity there does seem like a win/win.
Like the trade, get scoring and veteran presence, while giving up players that weren’t really going to work out in the long run anyways. Aaron Wiggins is what tre Mann was supposed to be. I do like starting 5 of Shai, Dort, Hayward, Jdub, and Chet. Until Giddey proves himself more I would rather see Hayward in. I want to see where this goes. Mid risk high upside.
It's not even that giddy need to prove himself the fit with Hayward just better and Giddy as the lead ball handler which is his strong point works better.
I like the trade Hayward should be very motivated getting a chance to go from a bottom feeder to a title contender and also should be a good veteran presence on a young team. I think the thunder actually legit do not care about rebounding at this point like having guys just for that for whatever reason at least it seems to be a strategy to focus on other things above that for sure. I'm curious how is Hayward as a defender though I know he is not a great rebounder but can he defend well?
There was also a draft pick swap that the Thunder also dealt with the Mavericks. By moving the salary cap money through player contracts and pushing back the draft capital with the pick swap, Presti is creating longevity for the team. This will allow him to preserve the players through development and increase the chance of winning a championship. Gordon will also be a great player for helping Giddy develop. Even if Giddy doesn’t become what the Thunder need, by increasing his value they will increase the teams value through trade options. IMO, Presti did the perfect amount of adjustments at this time. He acquired value while restructuring his finances.
Hayward's expiring contract was the only positive. He literally can't stay healthy, and when he does play he's a shell of himself. Tre Mann's looking like a future AllStar in Charlotte. Giving up so much potential in him and Micic for an injured 34 year old seems desperate.
Not a bad move. Agree if he gets and stays healthy he will make our bench much better in the playoffs and we lost people who wont be playoff ready some maybe never playoff ready.

I'm going to assume though that OKC's medical staff did their due diligence and feel confident that he will be able to play otherwise they wouldn't have made this trade. If he is able to give them solid minutes in the playoffs he absolutely makes this team better and that should be scary for the rest of the NBA since we're already leading the conference. He's played 32 minutes per game this year in 25 games played so when he's able to play he's playing a big role.
Good point about OKC knowing what they’re getting. It’s low risk and a big difference going from a bad team run by a ball hog to the Thunder culture. Don’t like giving up V but Sam has a longer term plan.
Hayward's played half a season or less the past 5 years, and only 25 games this season. He's literally injured right now. Hayward's occasional presence changed nothing.

There is an option to sign players from the buyout market but there's also the option of converting two-way contracts like that of Keyontae Johnson into full contracts that would eat up roster space
My guess is sign Keyontae Johnson to a long term deal then use there open roster spot to a bunch of 10 day contracts to players in there g-league that way they make more money okc does it every year.
@@riroballs So maybe okc will address their weaknesses (rebounding) in the buyout market? So okc have to wait to see if a player becomes available in the buyout market? Or could they already have a player or two in mind?
I think both scenarios are possible. It's just really hard to read the front office's moves tbh
Draft
My only question is what do we do with 2 open roster spots that we have
We'll soon find out. Could be useful for a buy out move maybe?
Keyontae Johnson and 10 Days contracts to there okc blue player
Put a claim in for T. Young!

No he's a crybaby we don't need his attitude he's another whiner like LeBron he acts like a spoiled brat
Thaddeus is not a cry baby, he's probably the best option for a big who can within the offense and is suitable in a variety of defensive situations.
@@JamesCrawford-sm1ft my bad I thought you was talking about trae young
Sorry about that
lost this trade . who's minutes is he getting ? okc got a bum who's injury prone
Why a bum? Overpaid maybe but half the league is.
hopefully his minutes will be carved out of giddey’s. giddey belongs on okc blue.
Josh has definitely disappointed especially in his focus but OKC wouldn’t have traded Micic unless they still didn’t believe Giddey wasn’t going to improve. I don’t know why he hasn’t developed a short jumper and why he holds the ball so long. Basketball isn’t a science. Some young guys suddenly click, some don’t. Tre didn’t, Poku hasn’t. Josh turned 21 three months ago and when he is focused he is a force. @@jonchimpo
