I, as have many others, have very much enjoyed your documented year. But, I completely understand your not wanting to be a slave to the camera. Personally, I'm not that keen on having my picture taken, much less appearing in a video. Good luck in whatever you decide to do, and even if you decide to film no more we will no doubt see you on the other side of the hill from time to time. Cheers

Father Johannes, although I thoroughly enjoyed your series, "One Year in the Life... " I'm relieved that you are not pursuing MORE videos. Embrace the silence and creation there in the alps, commune with the Lord, and maintain a balance. I will keep you in my prayers, as you have opened a window for me - one that has brought a good change and a better focus. My Catholic faith was re-charged by watching you live your faith and share your thoughts. May the Lord bless and keep you ever in His loving care. Mrs. H.

Father Johannes, I don't consider myself a Christian, but spiritual. I believe in the goodness of Christ. I LOVE your videos because you help me understand why there's goodness and I have his grace. I strive to be a better person to myself and to my fellow man. For that I am forever grateful. There's a reason for stumbling on your videos. I'm forever changed.

Thank you for this series....it has been extremely enjoyable and uplifting. May you be blessed over the next few months as you go about your work. I look forward to the final Q and A next week and then whatever time you share with us later in the year. And thank you for the update on your 'bulb planting marathon'... and your humour regarding the 'mouse war'... many blessings and much joy for the months ahead!

    Johannes,
Thank you for this series of incredibly artful videos, they've been a delight and have truely shown your ability to craft story in both the visual and spoken medium. Whilst I don't consider myself religious, i have found these little glimpses to be both restful and thought provoking and have enjoyed your reflections.
I appreciate that every beginning should have an end, however find myself a little sad that our saturdays will henceforth not be brightened by another month on the mountain.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Thank you for taking the time to answer questions. Loved the momemts of humor and imagination....appreciated the ending with Martijn...some odd reason brought tears to my eyes. Friendships are such a gift...especially those that come later in life. A thank you to you both for sharing moments of your journeys, separate yet together, neighbors who are friends. A microcosm reflection to what community is and what we hope and dream for on a world stage...

Thank you Father, it has been a joy to visit with you. God Bless you.
Your reasons for not 'continuing' as such make absolute sense and are in accordance with all you have offered thus far.
A humble reminder of the gift of presence in our own lives by the model of presence in your own, too easily stolen by the endless distractions so readily available.
    'Praying'
    It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
    small stones; just
    pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
    a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak. Mary Oliver

How grateful the bees must be for your bulb planting! And your narration of the story of the leafy insulation being appreciated by the mice-----that would make a wonderful audio book for children. Your voice and enthusiasm for the story are wonderful to listen to. I hope you continue to film nature even if you do not have time to edit. Some day you may have the time and urge to share again. Thank you for your videos, Johannes.

Today I saw a tiny hummingbird alight in a tree below my apartment. I hunted for my camera to try to capture him, but by the time I figured out where the camera was, the bird had flown off and left nothing but the motion of his departure flight. He lives here and people have feeders up for them but they are not permitted by the management of the apartment. I have a blog, and I used to write in it every day. Back then I had more ferment to spur me on. Now I only write when the Spirit moves me, because I have limited energy, at nearly 77 years old :) Danke sehr.

You’re so right. It’s easy to become a slave to the camera. In getting everything documented that we forget just to enjoy the moment. I spent years watching my kids through a camera lens. I wanted to document everything that I failed to fully enjoy their plays, presentations or games. I wanted to document all I could so I would have it to enjoy it later. But ask me how many times I’ve actually looked at the photos or videos. 😅

I really want to turn up with my long handled pruners, and wordlessly work beside you to strip, stack and bundle the smaller branches while you cut the fallen trees with the saw. So, consider this a collaboration of intention. I find it's often easier to keep going, when you have someone finishing up the side tasks, so you can stay focused and push on. But either way, immersion is so meditative. I enjoy this, and thank you for the videos. As we are always in the opposite season to you, it's good to travel to another place to see how people are living at the same time.

I paused the video at 9:19 to say that is indeed a small world Father. Years ago, I saw a video of Kirsten Dunst's about you and your home. In searching to see if you had a channel, I found Martijn's channel. It was the early days of his build...the garden, etc... and have watched you both whenever you are on. I sit here at my dining room table in Merkel, Texas. I so enjoy both of you and your videos. Thank you.

I greet you, Father Johannes, from the USA. I have followed Martijn for the last two years and now you. I have been Catholic my entire life and an avid gardener appreciating your love of the garden. I wish to say that at the end of this video, your explanation of priesthood is profound and should be played to all priests on Holy Thursday, a day to celebrate priesthood. Your most thoughtful comments at the end of each episode - superb. I can understand why you give talks. Your words, chosen wisely, are meaningful and long-lasting and give depth to understanding the message you are sending. I am sad to see you end your segments, but do understand the need to devote your energy to your faithful vocation. I will certainly look forward to your resuming these episodes on occasion, if possible, as seen from a “part-time hermit’s” view. May God Bless You.

You need a cat. They are pretty self reliant if you are not home but they are death on mice. My neighbor suddenly died and his cats moved over here. I can't tell you how thankful I am! I am not a cat person but they are amusing and loving. I have not been able to have a garden because of all the mice. They killed my fig tree. I had a partial garden last year, enough to realize this year we will feast! Thank you Katu and Darrell. We miss our neighbor, he was a very nice man. We are taking care of his cats.

    Father Johannes
Thank you for all the wonderful content.
As a Catholic I recognize the gentle path you walk while doing your story telling.
Yet I live in a world where we have dangerous actors that lead governments, like the folks that are now in power in the USA / Canada & the UK.
I ask that you might you celebrate a Mass in your small chapel and ask Our Lord for a great outcome for all the folks that are worried about our futures, and more than our futures, our children's futures.
I will be here for a few more years and then I'll be gone, as my life is getting up there. If I'm fortunate I get to Heaven. Otherwise, maybe I don't make the grade.
I sincerely ask you to pray now more than ever for a Great Outcome and a conversion of the world to Christianity.
    Thanks
    John Mc

I agree with all the comments about continuing your series. I understand that in many instances you become a slave to the camera & editing to produce videos which can become all time consuming. But think for a moment, Father Johannes. You are reaching a world wide audience with your personal & powerful reflections vs a small audience when you go on your speaking engagements! Your personal reflections are very thought provoking, stimulating, & even challenging at times. Your reflections are more powerful than a homily addressing a particular topic. As a priest, this is your calling; that is, to teach Christian values & beliefs to believers as well as non-believers. Catholicism means universal. Maybe consider making your videos quarterly or twice a year in order to free yourself to do other things you enjoy, but please continue them from time to time.
I, too, have enjoyed your videos tremendously. They are always captivating & fascinating to watch. I like how you balance your little corner of the earth with Mother Nature & your teachings, whether direct or indirect, about your philosophical views.
    Take care & Blessings

We have been royally treated to a wholly unique slice of life that most of us will never experience, and we’ve been spoiled by your generosity. Father Johannes, many thanks for your inspiring videos. I was always looking forward to the new episode of the annual review and I will certainly miss it. It is very understandable why you are now stopping the regular videos, but I would still like to point out to you the fact that, especially in these times, expression, the message, through images very important is and its value should certainly not be underestimated. Seeing your life on the mountain full of respect and love for nature, but also the creative interpretation, whether it concerns creating a prayer room, a table or a floor, creating terraces and greenhouses for fruit and vegetables. And especially the way you do this, with a loose, free effort, a kind of go with the flow, in the moment itself. A way of life that would be better for everyone, living as it was meant to be without the burden of the past or the future, living in the here and now. You have depicted this so beautifully and so inspiring! Many thanks again and I sincerely hope that we can still enjoy your new videos occasionally.

I so feel your pain, regarding the mice.
My avocados and peaches, resting on a wooden board in the kitchen, were eaten every day.
First I thought I didn’t pay attention at the store and had bought fruit that was damaged.
One early morning I solved the mystery.
A big, fat roach sat on my peach, having a feast.
    I declared war on them.

Adding my appreciation to you for sharing the year and understanding why you wouldn't continue. I'm one who came over while Martijn was on holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. While not "religious" in the organised sense, I appreciated the way you shared your faith and would love to discuss those ideas with someone in my community, though sadly most seem more interested in converting than conversation. As I'm back to watching Martijn regularly I'd add a request that you don't be a stranger and visit us in Martijn's videos from time to time as you certainly have in the past. Also, the suspenders, YES, I have the dutchman to thank for that too. Alhough I AM an old man Martijn convinced me that they weren't just for old men and once I tried them I discovered just how wise old men are. Peace.

I have lived my life in the cocoon of Minnesota Lutheran communities. How do we book you to come and lecture to the people of Lake Wobegon?! My ears perk up (and burn) when you begin to speak of the shortcomings of Lutheran practices. My faith has been instructed and strengthened by the writings of Martin Luther, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Dorothee Sölle. It is fascinating to me how you distinguish their religious beliefs, and I really hope that you could give us a more comprehensive explanation of how these Protestant theologians fit into your view of the church.

Well, you've left me happy... as you've said that we will hear from you again. 😊 Speaking for myself, I do not care if we only hear from you one time per year, or one time per month, or in two years, it is just good to know that you are not saying good bye to us permanently. Also, and again, speaking for myself... I would rather hear from you again whenver you are inspired to catch up with us, than have you stress over deadlines and such: I'm with you, I'd find this very stressful. Al vita Zein! Hugs! 😊 ... And don't worry about having cameras, always enjoy the nature first, and if you happen to have the camera, well then, fine. Today, I enjoyed many hummingbirds on our balcony; they come everyday as I feed them, and we have a small fountain they bathe in daily; they fly about my head when I am out tending to the plants too. 🥰 We saw crows building their nest on our bike ride, and also some hawks doing the same. We even saw a beautiful rattle snake slowly crossing the bike path. For some of these, I had my camera, and others, I didn't, and again, that's okay. You are such a lovely human, and I look forward to hearing from you in the future, whenever that may be!

I understand that filming can be invasive, but I enjoyed listening to your Q&A's. Feel free to just talk to us. I am Protestant, but we all believe in the same God. You have such a calm clear approach. Whenever you think of something to share with us, just put your nature videos in the back and talk to us.

That was a brilliant ending… seeing what we had seen before as a beginning but flipped into an ending…Brilliant…

I've enjoyed your videos, work, bulbs, now flowers, and the introduction to a Walipini immensely and am sad to see them go. However, you're not alone as it does become a chore rather than a pleasure to produce these for us at set times. I will be very glad to see the occasional new inspiration you might have show up on my screen. Many thanks for what you have shared with us. My admiration as well for having the inspiration and fortitude of turning this out of the way abode into a small piece of Eden inclusive of apples. In appreciation your avid follower, Hanneke

Congratulations on a tremendous 'year' of films, Johannes.. from the mischievous 'nisse' appearing round the back of Martijn's cabins at the beginning of the year, through to his return round the corner with a chainsaw ready to help in this final film... ha..very well rounded bit of editing:) Good luck going forward and we all look forward to seeing you every so often in M's films as well as more from you when the spirit moves you. :)

So sorry the series is coming to a close Johannes, I have found it so thoroughly enjoyable and thought provoking.
Who would have ever thought that an Evangelical-Protestant-Urban-Australian-Engineer would have so much in common with an Austrian-Catholic-(Part-time) Hermit-Priest….Let’s plan to meet up for a chat in Glory, where our earthly-human differences cannot exist.

First, I thank you for making this series and although I will miss your weekly stream, I understand the need to end it. I will eagerly await your book before the summer!!
This series has been such an educated, eye opening reflection each week and I have gained much perspective, thank you 🙏🏻. We will miss you. The peace and joy you have provided is much needed in this “day and these times”.

Thank you for this series. I’ve completely enjoyed it. I’ll miss your videos and appreciate you thanking me and your viewers for giving you our time. I never thought of it that way.
See you sometime, or whenever you appear with Martijn.

Thank you for stepping out of your ordinary comfort zone and taking the time to make such a beautiful recording. I appreciate your humorous and poetic narration. I too live alone near the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and appreciate so much all the beauty and diversity of Gods creation. I have traveled to several continents and am always amazed by Gods wisdom and knowledge he implemented in everything he touched. As the years pass I spend less time in trying to understand everything and more time thanking and praising God for all his goodness.

Hi, Hello, Hola from NM, USA to Johannes... our brother, our Father, our friend.
This is the 3rd time i visit THIS video.
We had 3 spring seasons, here (in NM). BUG SEASON just started. We had snow, hail and flooding (like flash flooding). So, the farmers were holding back on planting...
But it's fully blooming now, in southwest USA.
As the entire earth temperatures are changing
Thank fully and gracefully, people around the world AND other insects, birds and beings
    ARE ADJUSTING.
thank you for your wonder-filled videos. We need 2024 perspectives.
Love over-rides all things. God and me, see You.🤗😊

Thank you for your videos. I enjoyed them very much and looked forward to them ever week. I also enjoyed your reflections at the end, they made me think about my lack of a relationship with God, and if it got me thinking about that then it was worth my while spending my time with you these last 12 weeks. Thank you.

For me while I enjoyed your series, showing the beautiful country you live in. ( My mother spent years trying to make our high desert look like your place, she would have loved your flowers.) I can understand it is work and you have so many other things, in your life that need your attention, so post a video when you can I'll be waiting to watch. Your thoughtful final dialog has always made me stop and think, sometimes having to back up the video and listen again and again, to make sure I understood the point you were trying to make
Via Con Dios till we meet again

Look forward to your next adventure when and where it takes place. I say may god bless you, but i am afraid i am too late, god has blessed you and blessed us for coming to know you.
