War is overglorified, i have seen it all in my opinion. i have seen the eager faces of the young wanting to prove themselves. not knowing war's true meaning. they claim they fight for their country, or they fight for the lord like the crusaders. I however fight for the man next to me... i have lost count of how many wounds i sustained in war but none so greater than the wound of seeing the younger men die while the old continue to live on. waking up and realizing those i tried to save are the feast of buzzards crows and rats. war is the only life i know now...i will never find peace in the land of the living. there is however whispers of an army of adventurers and outlaws gathering to the east, at a township overrun with unsettling rumors and superstition. so i go now, to wage war, one final war. within the Darkest Dungeon

I listed into pay young. Bright. Full of idealism. King and Country, the oath goes. Was it for King and Country we marched into the fire again and again? Perhaps. But when the battle starts and the hell descends, I no longer fight for a King hundreds of leagues distant or a country which does not understand. I fight for my comrades. But time and again, battle after battle, I find that they too have been washed away by war. Hell descends around me. What I strive to protect is wiped away time and again. But maybe, with this last battle, I may find what I need to stand again. Or, if not, to finally rest and be rid of the voices of the dead. In the Darkest Dungeon.
You know... from 0:30 it was for me... so epic... i cried or be sad lightly... that moment and that soundtrack... Man-at-arms is not hero. He just saw pain, death and misery of the war.
"And what for boyo, would you buy a drink for this old bear, though his snout and mane be grizzled? Ah... I see, for stories of war, tales of valor and victory. Aye, I'll take it with my thanks, for if it's stories you're after, by the aches of my body and the creaks in my bones, I have many... but to choose which one!
What of my first battle, a young lad full of vim and vigor, spoiling for chance of distinguish himself in service and combat? Or mayhap, musta been maybe a half dozen years later, when holding a fort we had stormed just the night before, I held the bridge single handedly, with naught but with a good place to stand, a strong shield, the iron of mace and the mettle of my will? Aye, a most exciting story to be sure! But no... No. What of the time we in the company were ambushed, already weary from from three skirmishes in as many days, beset upon by superior arms and greater numbers?
I can tell you as many stories as you would want to hear boyo, and it wouldn't do you a blind bit of good. But, a bargain made is a bargain honored... That first battle, a lad, a boyhood friend of mine who came with me to enlist took an arrow to the neck, choking my name as it burbled from his blood-drowned throat. I kept that bridge well enough, but I did not keep my eye, mashed to pulped jelly in it's socket, only to hear the fort lost but days later. And that ambush... Well, I'm the only one left to honor those fallen.
Enough of stories boy, but a lesson instead. I see two things, staring deep into the ale. My one eye stares at my reflection. But the other, the one I lost, looks deeper into the swirling brew. It sees all the faces I couldn't save staring back at me, their hands outstretched, knowing there is nothing they could grasp to save them. So ponder this young'un; when you return home the people will cheer and call your name; it’ll be as a whisper upon the wind, as your ears fill with the echoes of the thunder of cannon and the wailing of comrades slain. Fight for the country at your back, and the men at your side, and leave your vaunted acclaim for the countless, nameless dead… you’ll learn, in the end it’s all you can do for them, as much difference as it makes. Thanks once more for the drink young’un. WIth no-one left beside me, and only ever the next battle ahead, it’s the last thing I have left to wash out the taste of bitter years past.”

Yeah, he can only guard one hero which is futile to the cannon's AoE attack.
