- This is an excerpt from the film "The Spirit of Liberation": • Spirit of Liberation -...
From 1935 to 1945, the Luftwaffe of the Wehrmacht was one of the three branches of the armed forces in the National Socialist German Reich, along with the Army and the Navy. It was an air and air defence force and also provided ground forces. Hermann Göring had been commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe since its founding, before he was dismissed by Adolf Hitler a few days before the end of the war and replaced by Robert von Greim.
While the Luftwaffe sent the Messerschmitt ME-262 into battle, the Air Force used the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and the Lockheed P-38 Lightning.

German aircrafts look so ahead of time. The very best of German engineering!!
They were sinister...
But the effort was unfocused and poorly organized. all for naught.
Yeah, German stuff from WW2 in general is pretty cool
That's why American took their scientists rather than their land.
German is ALWAYS THE BEST in Everything!!
Sad they destroyed all those beautiful birds even after the war.
Oh my! I have never seen WW2 fights is color! This is amazing!
Unbelievable, most of those German planes were probably destroyed, that's a complete museum right there.
Look at these young men! Brave and happy even at war time! I have not seen same men now at streets even in peace time! Why? That was great generation and no social media and internet killing happiness and social contacts
there were horrors at the time we cant imagine, dont forget that not all was better. but you are right, our society is fucked up.
brave & happy at war time ! ffs dude this a propaganda news reel. irl USAAF suffered massive causalties. How about this happiness & social contract . Circa 1943' USAAF John Luckadoo, a pilot in the 100th Bomb Group recalled that he “calculated a 400 percent turnover in the first 90 days” of combat. In 1943, bomber crews were tasked with a 25-mission tour of duty. Most crews never made it past their fifth. pls gtfoh
Yes, the happiness is for the camera, but they certainly looked healthier and slimmer than today's fatsos, and the dam social medias and smartphones will ruin our culture and social skills
@@fluffy1931 True words.. Propaganda is that,a glorified morale booster n hides the horrors of war, victorious or not.😐
2:00 That’s a P-61 not a P-38.
It's possible the narrator didn't see the footage he was narrating, and/or the editor simply mismatched it.
Well spotted!
Ich bin stolz ein deutscher zu sein!
Nightmare!
Just to be accurate....there was no US "Air Force" during WWII...that was created in 1947. It most likely should be called US Army Airforce......
US Army Air Corps
@@TheSaturnV USAAC was renamed USAAF in 1941
Thats a mix. Post the films each one unedited please.
Cool high-altitude shooting., on color celluloid filmstrip, 1945, just think.
P-47's size, speed and fire power continue to puzzle me...
Thank you so much. 🤝
Техника супер !
Американцы как не крути молодцы !!!!
Ме 262 шедевр.....
Is this from a longer documentary.?
Es war der erste deutsche Düsenjäger und besser als die air force.....
At the two minute mark when they are blabbing about the overrated p38 ....it turns into a beautiful P61 black widow...or am I wrong 😮
The P 38 was nothing special.
no you're right
And @2:45 is how they killed many hundreds of concentration camp inmates who got transfered to other places. Simply by shooting at trains without knowing who used them.
They bombed Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen directly as well.
They also bombed Auswitch/BIRKENAU , apparently the bomber command thought it was a factory of some sort .
Ref the Trains what else could they do ?
Hindsight is 20/20. Pretty much any train they came across in enemy territory was attacked.
The P-47 was known as the Flying Jug!
'Jug' ... short for 'Juggernaut'.
How heavy were Luftwaffe 500lb bombs?
Using the metric system they were quite heavy.
@@andrewwaller5913 - yeah, you get a lot more numbers with metric usually. 'Course, 1 metric is a lot less than 1 imperial tho'.
Luftwaffe bombs were in kilograms weight: 250 kg is similar at 500 lb...for precision 227 kg are 500 lb...sorry for my bad English ...Greetings from Italy
226.796185 kg, approximately. LOL
@@carlobo5647 e anche CIAO a te, Carlo!
if me 262 was 3 years earlier the war would of changed with 500 of these in air nothing could stop them be alot dead pilots a great vid
If Allies developed nuclear bomb three years earlier and so on. Lots of ifs...
@@sjones1017 yep true hitler almost had the bomb but they blew up heavy water delivery and plant in norway
The P80 Shooting Star began flying Sorties over Italy in 1945. It had superior numbers over the 262 across the board. Rate of climb, ceiling, turn rate, acceleration, etc.
Don't forget to straffe the Church, boys!
I suppose when you write ‘Air Force’ it doesnt occur to you as Americans that there are any others.
Hört auf mit Eueren Lügen
0:16 Wer hat den Witz übersetzt? Google? Ist komplett falsch und sinnlos.
No Blacks in the Airforce?
A really great report 🙄, interesting to know how heavy have been the German bomb 😂
