During the Civil rights movement, the Viet Nam war protest demonstrations, equal rights for women, Stonewall and gay rights, etc. The people fought back to win these hard fought issues. We've come a long way with these. It's far from perfect but in many ways better than it was. We are in a unique and difficult position to strike back against donald trump, his billionaire buddies, and maga republicans. But we must do it to protect our democracy and our country. I think that most people do not want a dictatorship and will reject it. But like you said, we can't just roll over and play dead and hope that it won't be that bad. We must unite and get the power back from the multi millionaires and billionaires. They don't expect a fight. But a fight is just what we need. And that's what we'll give them! Unite! And Fight! And Win that fight!

It would be nice to have a list of what we can do. It's all very overwhelming with the things that we need to do and it would be great to have a checklist and script on what to write so we're all on the same page.

One thing I noticed voters do not understand how government works and civics. People do not understand that the 3 branches of government. I live in rural Alabama. 'Nuf said. The other day, I was out to eat Mexican with two other women. I said that if Trump deports as many Mexicans as he says he will, a lot of Mexican restaurants will have to close. One of them, who is the most militant Maga, said, "No, he's only going to deport the criminals!" Bingo - opportunity to kindly explain what Trump has said, in his own words. Truth matters. The other lady was complaining earlier about high food prices. I said, "Yes, I'm concerned about prices going up even more next year." She said, "You mean with Trump in the White House?" Bingo again! I said a few words about how we will pay for tariffs. When the war in Ukrain broke out, I sponsored a lovely family and their dog, so they could get a fresh start. I explained to my friends that they are working through the process legally, the little girls went to Bible school. The father works to clean up after hurricanes, and his taxes will help pay for our social security. I hope this isn't virtue signaling, but the point one person can make a difference.

It doesn’t take that much time to write a 3 sentence email to you congressional senators and representatives. We must remind them that they should represent us all. I am in Texas and donate to national causes but participation in the local democratic party is important too as well as Indivisible.
She is spot on about the unholy alliance. I would go even further. Schools do not take social studies seriously- so therefore most Americans under 50 have no clue how local, state, and federal government works. 2 reasons for this: 1) the ACT test took the social studies section off the test and 2) since state and federal funding are tied to standardized test scores- subjects such as Civics, Free Enterprise, and all history sections are pretty much ignored. Young voters are pretty much just getting their news from podcasts too.
Messaging is the most critical part of electoral strategy. Most people are too busy maintaining their working lives and personal relationships to become activists. They might be persuaded to agree with your (our) policies and philosophy, or at least to ally with us on certain issues, but it has to be easy. Information has to be accessible and ubiquitous. The right wing has mastered fear, but it wouldn’t work if so many people weren’t already inclined to be fearful. There’s more than can fit in a comment, too, like the motivation for toxic masculinity, and civic ignorance in general. Any gains in the immediate time frame of 2026-2028 will depend primarily on a vigorous, widespread, well constructed marketing campaign, because the sad fact is that we sell elected officials like consumer goods.

I'm too disgusted by people's willful ignorance, short sightedness, unkindness, greed, misogyny, weakness, disinterest, and stupidity to engage right now. We get what we get. Sometimes you have to experience the consequences to learn and grow. What absolutely infuriates me is that 50% or more of this country is going to suffer because of it and we don't know how long it will take to get back to any kind of normalcy and decency.

I live in rural Alabama. 'Nuf said. The other day, I was out to eat Mexican with two other women. I said that if Trump deports as many Mexicans as he says he will, a lot of Mexican restaurants will have to close. One of them, who is the most militant Maga, said, "No, he's only going to deport the criminals!" Bingo - opportunity to kindly explain what Trump has said, in his own words. Truth matters.
The other lady was complaining earlier about high food prices. I said, "Yes, I'm concerned about prices going up even more next year." She said, "You mean with Trump in the White House?" Bingo again! I said a few words about how we will pay for tariffs.
When the war in Ukrain broke out, I sponsored a lovely family and their dog, so they could get a fresh start. I explained to my friends that they are working through the process legally, the little girls went to Bible school. The father works to clean up after hurricanes, and his taxes will help pay for our social security. I hope this isn't virtue signaling, but the point one person can make a difference.

In mass arrests, police will not look for Identification cards. or they may throw Identification away. So people have to stop this before it starts. We in america have mixed families, Some people who are white have black people in their families. Schools do not take social studies seriously- so therefore most Americans under 50 have no clue how local, state, and federal government works. 2 reasons for this: 1) the ACT test took the social studies section off the test and 2) since state and federal funding are tied to standardized test scores- subjects such as Civics, Free Enterprise, and all history sections are pretty much ignored. Young voters are pretty much just getting their news from podcasts too.

Messaging is the most critical part of electoral strategy. Most people are too busy maintaining their working lives and personal relationships to become activists. They might be persuaded to agree with your (our) policies and philosophy, or at least to ally with us on certain issues, but it has to be easy. Information has to be accessible and ubiquitous. The right wing has mastered fear, but it wouldn’t work if so many people weren’t already inclined to be fearful. There’s more than can fit in a comment, too, like the motivation for toxic masculinity, and civic ignorance in general. Any gains in the immediate time frame of 2026-2028 will depend primarily on a vigorous, widespread, well constructed marketing campaign, because the sad fact is that we sell elected officials like consumer goods.
At this point i am more concerned with protecting myself from my neighbors. Politics here is toxic.

I’m personally against pure obstructionism and don’t think that is the way to go in this moment, but we will need to flex that obstructionist muscle when steps are taken that attempt to harm the election process or otherwise unfairly limit the power of the people. It’s good to have a framework for that.
