The best female singer of all time for me. I know she is considered a jazz singer but she is sassy, she has a classical technique... I mean best of every world. Great great great ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I know everyone is fond of certain vocalist.. Sarah Vaughn would be in the Top 5. Her range was limited .. I enjoy her material 🎶🎤... She wasn't the Greatest Jazz.. singer ..
@@gigigiseleworld I love Betty Carter and Ella but I find Sarah Vaughan had great phrasing and musical ideas when improvising in her own right. I feel like arguing which great jazz singer is better is kinda like arguing whos better between Lester Young and Charlie Parker for example... both are great, just different types of musician
When I first came to love jazz when I was in my teens . Sara Vaughan was one of the first records that I bought . Loved her then & still do . A stand alone singer anytime any year .
" and just in case you don't know who I am....my name is Della Reese... " ......great sense of humor and surprise miss Sarah....your performances were intriguingly full of class and light heartedness......such a funny and refined soul....
I love the fact that she plays piano as well. That voice is like linen the most expensive kind. Wow! When I hear her sing Misty oh me oh my. Listen to that vib.
GODDES from heaven sent! Is singing in heaven, the voice of an Angel!!! All other angels are silent when she sings I geuss! xxx I was so lucky: have seen her singing/performing LIFE at North Sea Jazz a long time ago! Her voice, I was crying my eyes out all the time! xxx
Sadly, there is no option to click on that says F*****g AMAZING. Have always loved this incredibly talented & authentic lady. Thanks so much for uploading this. Superlative musianship from her fellow stage members only serves to uplift my soul even further. I am fully sated.
I recently met Harold Jones (former Basie Band drummer) for the first time in Kansas City adjudicating at an educational festival event, The Kansas City Jazz Summit's "Basically Basie Competition" that draws programs from around the USA. He's a very knowledgeable musician and an interesting gentleman for sure.
Wow! There is reason they called her Sassy and The Divine One. Never will there be another. So glad I got to see her perform a year before she passed away.
After teaching myself guitar, as a White kid on the northwest side of Chicago who loved Blues, I think I'm finally starting to understand Jazz. These cats explore scales. These cats employ scales to delve into territory infinitely more complex and emotive than the Blues pentatonic scale I am so familiar with. Listen, hearing it is an essential step to understanding every genre of music! Finding the chords and scales on guitar, or any other instrument, is the lifelong goal. I'm learning. Why? Because I'm determined to learn.
This is a good song to break into hearing and understanding that the solos are on the changes. I would suggest listening to some of the thousands of versions (everyone plays this), by greats as well as amateurs. A couple of other useful songs in this regard: All the Things You Are, and My Favourite Things. All three of these are fairly modal, meaning the chord changes stay within a single scale, except for a few shifts. So you can hear the improvisor keeping more or less on the same scale throughout a chorus, and then changing for the bridge. 12-bar jazz-blues are also easy to hear because you'll already have a feel for the main changes at bars 5, 9, and then 12-back-to-1.
THANK YOU UA-cam for gifting us with these sublime, precious moments from the incomparably sublime Sarah Vaughan. I am seriously considering using this as music therapy for my patients.
Fantastic! I'm from Brazil and for me, Sarah Vaugahn with Ella Fitzgerald are the two best jazz singers in the world. Both have recorded many Brazilians musics. She (Sarah) particulary recorded in 1977, in Brazil the album "The Brazilian Sound from Sarah Vaughan"; an album with songs from Tom Jobim, Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento and others. Unforgettable! I love it so much. "I recommend you to look for it in UA-cam".
Growing up in New York ws wonderful. I don't live their anymore, but I was lucky enough to see all sorts of music. Got to hear and watch Sarah perform. What a voice. And what about this trio backing her up. All great musicians on their own.
Thanks very very much again World Of Jazz for this wonderful video!!! The trio that back Miss Vaughan is formed by George Gaffney: Piano, Andy Simpkins: Bass, Harold Jones: Drums; simply amazing too!!!

I wish I had discovered Sarah Vaughan earlier. It's been the last three or four years I began listening to her. I've missed out.

I watch this and get sooo excited. What a voice from a different dimension
I agree! When music was great!

Devine one was Sarah Bernhardt I think.
@@laurariceify Sarah Bernhardt was known as the ‘Divine Sarah.’ Sarah Vaughn was known as the ‘Divine One’ in music.
Just like a saxophone, just like a saxophone... yeah! She could do anything... truly the GOAT!
