Yeah, the octave does also make a big difference; the reason I was playing this tune in different keys is because it has a large range, so the original key takes my up into the palm keys, so along with the actual sound, it's also about getting the melody to fit the range.
I think i preferred A followed by Eb. A just had a sparkle to it. Eb was warm and rich so it probably would depend on my mood at the time.of listening.
Hearing how A sounded so well, I’m surprised how different Ab sounded. A key that would be much better for singing, that half step difference sounded a world away. It makes sense that Pj Morton would go with Eb.
Originally the song composed and performed is in Eb Major. Hence, on the alto it would be natural in C Major. However, I like the feel in A Major on alto sax (C major).
What?! Eb and A are swapped jaajaja. All sound terrific, but for saxophone design reasons "C and "Eb" has less under-vented notes i think, sounds a liiiiitle more even. Great playin as always!!
Eb for me but I tend to prefer lower pitched playing. What are the differences when you get to the chorus? I tend to be one of those folks who fidget while waiting for the verse to finish so we can get to the fun bit. I apologize to the lyricists who pour their souls and their pain into the words! 😂
Not to be that guy, but you got the keys wrong The first is Eb, but Eb is the same as C minor so you get a slight pass (although the base note is Eb so it’s still technically not right but technically not wrong) The second is C, no idea where Eb came from The third is Gb, although A is Gb minor, but this is Gb major so it doesn’t count The fourth is B, which has the same case as the first one except now B is the same as Ab minor (technical not wrong but also not right)
This is a saxophone channel. Those are the alto sax keys. The alto sax is a transposing instrument. For example - when a piano plays a C, the alto sax has to play an A to play the same note. The keys are correct 🤠
@@ScottPaddock Ah! I am a sax player too, but I often think about sax keys in concert pitch, and sometimes forget when things are written in sax transpositions. Sorry!
The main problem with the original key is that it goes up to high in the bridge for the sax range. This tune has a really big range, so you have to start it in the middle of the sax.
I like Eb and Ab.
It sounds good when you play in any key
I love Ab and Eb, so pretty!
Alright Mr. Paddock!! We know you can play in all your keys (show off)) Lol... love you man...(Eb) w/a nice R&B backtrack.....🚬😎🎱🎷🍤🥪🍟🍺🥃
They all sound really nice. Depends on the mood you're creating. I like warm but the A is smooth and lite
Yeah, agreed! Ab sounds really dark to me, but A has a bounce.
Loved the E flat key!
E flat is very smooth and A flat is preferred.
Eb definitely!
its not about the key, but about what octave you're playing. you'll get the same kinda vibe with A or C scale with a lower octave.
Yeah, the octave does also make a big difference; the reason I was playing this tune in different keys is because it has a large range, so the original key takes my up into the palm keys, so along with the actual sound, it's also about getting the melody to fit the range.

I love the way Eb sounds with PJ Morton, but I think for solo sax A gives it the feel that it needs.
I don't know, that Eb just has more soul
Eb and Ab, respectively!
Eb sounds 👌 to me
E♭ all the way. It’s a very warm key.
Eb seems like the winner so far
I go with this also
2
Also prefer Eb, it's the smoothest on this smooth tune 🎶
Yeah, it seems to be the crowd favorite.
Eb and Ab. A is close, though. C sounds too high.
Eb sounds fine to me . ❤Thx !
A is bright, lite, outta sight
But the E flat sounds so rich transitioning from C
Have you heard the PJ Morton version? If not UA-cam search How Deep Is You Love - PJ Morton & Yebba. Definitely sounds rich!
I prefer c
Ab feels nice to me
Ab and Eb by far nice exercise!
Definitely Eb!!! But Ab has the feel too
All sound good and you’re great. A sounds best to me.
I think it's really a result of the range and tonal qualities of the instrument being played, not some inherent theoretical concept
Hearing how A sounded so well, I’m surprised how different Ab sounded. A key that would be much better for singing, that half step difference sounded a world away. It makes sense that Pj Morton would go with Eb.
I love the key Ab and Eb
Originally the song composed and performed is in Eb Major. Hence, on the alto it would be natural in C Major. However, I like the feel in A Major on alto sax (C major).
The last one was great.
A and Ab, greetings!
Eb flat the original key, but on alto the A sounds the best for me!
E flat or A flat, soft expression of love, others are beautiful too but those keys are more suited I feel, softer.
I play the saxophone alto and I like the key of A sounds like the right key to me perfect feel.
I think that it also depends on the musical instrument used. I prefer the tenor sax… can you try please?
I Agree with you it's A all the way!!
Does the starting note change?
A or Ab sounds the best to me!
Ab and Eb for me
A for sure. These are in concert pitch right?
Alto sax keys - I like A the most too when I'm playing it.
1st Ab 2nd Eb 3rd A
What?! Eb and A are swapped jaajaja. All sound terrific, but for saxophone design reasons "C and "Eb" has less under-vented notes i think, sounds a liiiiitle more even. Great playin as always!!
i like Ab key,,sure
Ab sound beautiful when you play it
Honestly I love Eb and Ab for jazz but I would use A for a more upbeat feel
Ab by far for me…Just such an obvious darker timbre that fits this song.
I love A much clearer and bright sound
Eb for me but I tend to prefer lower pitched playing. What are the differences when you get to the chorus? I tend to be one of those folks who fidget while waiting for the verse to finish so we can get to the fun bit.
I apologize to the lyricists who pour their souls and their pain into the words! 😂
Really like the Eb, for some reason just a little smokier?
Eb for sure Your favorite key i believe 😅
For me Eb.
Eb and Ab
I do like the Ab key
to me it's c
Ab and Eb
I like C and Ab. Eb sounds really mellow though. I would use that one near the end of a night if I was trying to ramp peop[le's evergies down a bit.
Eb and A
Eb is dope❤
Also prefer Eb, has a smooth warm feel.
Agreed
Some keys sound good because of the key change. But I think I like A the most
Eb for sure
I like A flat and B flat
I love Eb and Ab
The original key is Eb for alto sax but I prefer to play it in F ..
for me Eb
Eb slightly above Ab
I feel like there's a ley that fits better, but out of these my favorite is A
E b sounds smoother to my ear
Ok. You added more vibrato and air when you did it in A. Hahahaha. So that’s the one I like. When you played in Ab you played it much softer.
HAHA!!! You're probably right, different keys feel different to me, so I'm sure I played a little different on each of them.
@@ScottPaddock same here. I play every key differently for some reason. It’s probably a fingering thing.
The flats sound smoother and mellow, my preference being Eb
C, obviously
I like C too, but it doesn't fit very well on the sax. This tune has a very large range from lowest to highest note.
sounds best in c to me....simple open key....gives the alto the old bop sound...easier to get your licks off!!!!
Eb for sure..
E flat for me too
A... Great area of the alto
Eb sounds great but so does Ab! 🎷👍
You like the darker ones.
E flat is my favorite
I liked A the C sounded good and the Ab but the A was best for me
Eb for me
Premesso che che suoni veramente bene tutte le tonalità, bravo, a me piace mib
I would like when you play in A
Second and third ones were reversed. That being said, concert C sounds nice.
Suena muy bien en cualquier nota que toques , pero me gusta en A
Eb for me.
C sounds the best for me eb sounds exactly what implies flat 😅😂😅 A sounds hopeful and Ab melancholic
Ab on Bari would be just too good
Eb and Ab sound the most moody and romantic.
The 2nd one in lower pitch is better
Eb. Sounds like John Klemmer.
E flat has the feeling
Not to be that guy, but you got the keys wrong
The first is Eb, but Eb is the same as C minor so you get a slight pass (although the base note is Eb so it’s still technically not right but technically not wrong)
The second is C, no idea where Eb came from

@ScottPaddock you definitely did switch the ordering for A (Concert C) and Eb (Concert Gb).
@@elijahcastro7732 Your ears are deceiving you 😀 Those are all of the correct keys on the alto sax.
@@ScottPaddock yep definitely haha. Still switched the ordering of A and Eb though 😉
Eb is better soft composed nd sound pleasant in my ear
Eb sounds best
Eb
Eb 100%
I like A flat it sounds Sevier to me for some reason.
that one felt pretty dark to me.
Eb❤
E flat, perhaps
I personally only like C because that’s how The Bee Gees did it.
I actually prefer it in the original key on tenor.
The main problem with the original key is that it goes up to high in the bridge for the sax range. This tune has a really big range, so you have to start it in the middle of the sax.
Eb to me!!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
A it sounds more jazzy!
Eb, its more mellow
