The difference is that camlink 4k is outputing 4k@30p, this noname is outputting HD@60p max. So that is the main difference, but both compared at 1080p looks the same. If you need 4k, then you need camlink 4k. Both can take 4k input, but the noname downscales it to HD.

I’ve returned several of those cheap knockoffs. They work for a bit and then the video slows down so the video and audio doesn’t synch. Also, they’re at a much lower resolution and frame rate than Elgato. 1080 x30 is the max they give you, regardless of what the description on Amazon claims. And the USB plug comes loose so they randomly disconnect while in use.

Amazon uk are doing the cam link for £87 so I ordered one on Thursday. Being a prime member the Package arrived Friday. Opened the sealed Amazon packaging took out my sealed cam link box. The first thing to draw to my attention was there was no usb extension cable in the box but there was a video capture card manual just like the one in your video along with an identical video capture card just like your review. 😱 my cam link 4K capture card was swapped with the cheap one. Fortunately, after contacting Amazon they sent me another one which arrived today, Saturday so all is good. But this wasn’t purchased from a reseller but supplied by Amazon itself. Loved your video btw. Spot on. 👍🏻
This is how it works in the electronics world. Its very rare that a company even those as big as Apple design every piece of hardware that goes into their devices. In the case of these cheap capture devices, I think the hardware is the same, Elgato just improved the software ( probably not) and once you have got a brand you can sell any crap for hundreds of dollars.

I have visualy same product,but it is "new version" with USB 3.0 and input 4K/60fps output FHD/60fps. I used this for my old Gopro Silver 3+ as webcam. Everything works as it should be😉It is completely unnecessary to buy 10-20 times more expensive equipment😎
Just to confirm: I bought one recently and it does work but the thing for the Audio, you have to set that up seperately and it works just fine but mine has pretty bad audio quality. So I recommend using a aux cable plugged into your controller then plugged in to your computer's mic or line-in port.

Update: did not work on my Xiaomi phone. Apparently doesn't work with some devices such as pixels. However did work on my brother's Samsung note 9. seems to support most if not all Samsung phones. Alas.
Bought mine a while ago, tested it tonight, and worked perfectly with my old macbook pro. just downloaded OBS and worked straight away pretty much (of course you have to choose the right input in OBS)
I just purchased a similar camlink for £17.99 from Amazon, did a recording on OBS as an MP4, then uploaded it as a private test video on You Tube an the quality is stunning, say no more lol....!
It's a generic capture card resold by many different sellers. Just search on Aliexpress for "1080p hdmi capture" and you'll find them for under $10 USD.
A couple small corrections, you mention a few times that it’s USB-C and USB 3, though neither is correct. It’s USB 2 with the standard A shape connector. Overall enjoyable video though! First time UA-cam has recommended your channel so I’ll be checking out your other content
Looked like the cheap one had less FPS and had a noticeable delay compared to the camlink. But tbh I think the price is still really good for what it does.
I have both. the problem with the cheap usb streamer is delay. I have right around 0.5 second delay which makes video conferences over MS Teams or Zoom very annoying. with elgato I have no problem.
They are good. I have 2 of them. They get a bit too warm when in use but they continue working. These things are the best cheap tech. Some of them have 60 fps but most are 30 fps which is more than enough. I would suggest you to get 60 fps one for smoother video specially playing recorded clips.
the 60fps is more often than not fake. they just duplicate every frame to make it appear 60fps. If you go into windows and find the PID you can find the actual chip used and the most commonly used chip 2109 is capped at 1080p30. this was true across a lot of no name capture cards on amazon regardless of if they advertised 60fps or 30fps
For whatever reason cheap capture card didn´t work for me. Capture card was a different cheap one marketed as HD Video Capture card from DigiNow (China) Macbook 2018 with usbC ports, apple brand hmdi-usbc adapter, nikon d750..... El Gato Cam link worked right away after trying cheap one and banging my head against the wall. I did learn how to update my camera's firmware in the process as I was trying to figure things out, so I guess that's a plus. (updated firmware on camera, computer, obs software) I'm sure not all cheap cards are the same but sometimes you get what you pay for. Posting for those who might be frustrated like me. Lot of videos for PC, perhaps cheap ones more optimized for PC... really don´t know.
Terrence Hamilton ahh sorry you had a bad experience, I didn’t experiment with the capture card on Mac through the adapter, maybe that was the problem or they are just designed for pc users. Something to watch out for so thanks for the info.
My CamLink 4K simply quit working. No longer providing input from my interactive flat panel into either vMix or OBS on either my Surface or MacBook. I bought this inexpensive capture device for US$9.00 on Amazon and was blown away with its quality/consistency on any of the platforms I work in.

Why is this the 1st time I've heard of a Cam Link!? I have a Predator computer and have been frustrated setting up my Go-Pro Hero 8 as a Web Cam. Do I need a Cam link? No one has ever mentioned it before. Thanks for your help.
Longevity is the keyword, I bought several of these, 2 at 20 quid from ebay boxed, then another seller was selling 3 for 24 quid and bought them, they came un-boxed in plastic zip bags. The reason being for the purchases, I am using multiple cameras and wanted backups for that reason, cheap and cheerful. Only time will tell. It might be as with everything corporate we the consumers have been having the wool pulled over our eyes and are paying for the brand and not so much the device.
Not gonna lie I got mine for $12 and I'm happy with it. Only issue is slight input lag because no pass through, but I cant complain for $12. Looks great with my switch plugged in!
I purchased one of those. The video quality from my unit was extremely bad at best. I had to apply hard color correction to make it somewhat usable. Also it’s locked at 30fps.
I really wanted to go for a Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro but after testing this Capture Card for 10,99€ and a HDMI Splitter for 19€ I decided to stay with it because it is awesome for that price!
I guess we are missing the point here. The high price point of Elgato is not totally justified but what what it does better is give us 4k 30 fps, a true 1080 60 fps and a latency as low as 60-80 ms. The cheaper capture card has 1080p 30 fps and not 60 fps even if they advertise it that way and a way high latency in the line of 200 ms. The latency and frame rate will eventually bother even a casual enthusiast down the line. So the picture quality is not the only factor here. Just my two cents. Its costlier for a reason.
Mine was broken after using it three times. I can't even buy higher quality because I believe everything in aliexpress is the same thing. I don't want to buy same thing twice, thats just incentivising bad quality.
I'm interested in getting the CamLink 4K since s the USB device I use at the moment seems to give a huge amount of compression artefacts when recording in OBS. Do you notice any with either of these cards please? Many thanks!
The Elgato can handle higher frame rates, and has less delay. And the cheap one has USB 2, not USB 3. But for streaming, this no-brand one (sold under several names) is fine for 1080p/30fps. And the audio can be delayed in OBS to match the capture card. Got a second, slightly more expensive one with USB-C (sold as "4K"), but it doesn't work better for me; now that I have it, I keep it, but I would've been better of with a second cheap one … ;-)
So...did it last or did it fry after a while? Usually one of the things that makes up for the price difference is the internal electronics are so shit the connectors fry after long term use.

Man, your talking head image looks so clean, even after UA-cam compression. Mine always looks rubbish after compression. Any idea why/what settings do you export at? Might check on of these, so cheap!

Deep diving on the internet, it's processor seems to be a smart TV chip tuned for USB output, clever stuff, since tv chips are dirt cheap nowadays.
Returned the CAM Link and ordered the alternative!

Cam Link is more saturated but that's not a biggie. Much less latency with Cam Link.

my Cam Link 4k started to degrade in performance, after 6 months of use. glad i found this more affordable performance.
Mine just literally broke after 5 months, elgato won’t take care of me cause I can’t find my proof of purchase.. $10 capture card here I come

Usually no big difference but the lag for the voice is different even if your on 2 different computers

It may be made of metal but NOT built like a tank if your worried about it dropping.
Also, evga xr1 lite is not bad either. 4k 60 pass through, 1080p 60 capture for less than 50 bucks US.

That one is USB 2.0 BUT there are a slitlly more expensive version that is grey, in stead of black, that is USB 3.0.
Yes, but I think there is a not usb 3.0 real, and that blue color is just to attract customers.

Use multiple programs, i generally use both Wirecast (sub for free software) and obs, use obs for recording and wirecast for streaming.

It is a good capture card if you get a good one. I didn't in 6 streams my card died, got my money back. Got it new of amazon!

Can the Elgato Camlink 4k output in 4k 60hz to the PC for recording? (not talking about outputing to livestream or Zoom video meetings, which are stuck at 1080p).

How is it with gaming 1080 / 60 fps?
for 1080p out put is great but the camlink outputs at 4k
It outputs what you camera supports because you can’t plug a 720p camera into Elgato camlink 4K and expect it to run 4k
Video is fine, but audio is mono only, no stereo.
