Tennent's , Slalom , Leffe, If you want to try Italian brands I recommend: Peroni, Moretti,Messina, Nastro Azzurro , poretti and Ichnusa , they are common brands here
draft beer from a pub can take 3 forms 1. ( Hladinka ) Level - It is the most common, in the Czech Republic and in Central Europe, the only honest way to draft beer. The result is a full pint of beer with foam on the surface. Each type of beer is recommended to be tapped for a certain number of so-called drafts (for example, Pilsen beer should be tapped for one draft). 2. ( Mlíko ) Milk - There is more foam in a pint than beer after being tapped. It is said to be characterized by a less bitter taste, which makes it more popular with women than with men. In the Czech Republic as well as in German countries, such a taping of beer is considered dishonesty by the tapman. 3. ( Šnyt ) Shnyt - It is characterized by a smaller proportion of beer and a larger proportion of foam. Some taprooms state that a properly tapped pint contains 2 fingers' width of beer, 3 fingers' width of foam, and 1 finger's width of air on top. and yes, I copied it from the Czech version of Wikipedia and ran it through the translator.
To be fair as a Czech I even had to Google what Praga is 😂 Never heard of it before. I found out it should belong to the Litovel brewery which is kind of meh... So totally agree with the scores 😀 Anyway the foam is not for a cool factor but for conservation. The longer it sits without foam the worse the taste gets.
Tbh litovel is good. But there is always someone higher who tells breweries to brew cheap shit beer by different brand and sell it to tourists or old/poor ppl
I’m from Romania and we have the beer ‘Praga’ in every supermarket and it’s advertised as being the best beer in Czech Republic and original and with tradition and so on :) it’s a coincidence that ‘Prague’ in romanian is translated as ‘Praga’. Anyway, I never found this beer in Czech Republic. It’s not a very good beer.
Sending 👋 from Pilsen in Czech republic, home of Pilsner Urquell. TBH Pils. urq. is nowadays JUST best from "eurobeers" as we call it. In recent years lots of new smaller breweries was founded and their beers are excellent. Come and see for yourself 😉
also i can see that the beers are not cold enough and the taste will be rly diferend if u cool it down to 7-8 °C witch is the best temperature for the beer
@@melchiorvonsternberg844 Radegast is actually a slavic pagan god that has a statue at Pustevny in Beskydy mountains, which is used as a logo of a brewery of the same name located few kilometers away at Nošovice, just having Radegast 12° myself
Dudák Strakonice, Poutník Pelhřimov, Krakonoš Trutnov, Švihák Hodonín, Polička, Hubertus Kácov, Svijany, Bernard, Chodovar Chodová Planá and many more small breweries with excellent beers.
I didn't even know we've such a brands as Praga or Samson in czechia 😁 those are clearly for export only becouse locals wouldn't appreciate them! Love your vids btw!
fun fact: Samson brewery was bought by Anheuser-Busch and they use it in legal war with Budvar (they can now say that they own brewery in Budweis). So Samson is beer from Anheuser-Busch.

4. (Čochtan) Chohtan - Beer on tap in 'American' or 'British' style with almost no foam. Beer is very refreshing and ideal for quenching thirst. You just have to drink it as quickly as possible, because without foam, the beer is very quickly contaminated by air and loses its taste. This style of beer is not popular in classic Czech pubs, but it is preferred in buffets near swimming pools or at railway stations, simply where the customer is in a hurry and wants to enjoy and drink the beer quickly.
Praga is almost unknown in the Czech republic. It is made for export by brewery Litovel. It's kinda low-end beer. Czech beer drinkers call it "useless beer". Probably good for feet washing.
German here. Those beers has different ways of brewing. FIRST one, was Lager, SECOND was Bock, THIRT original Pils. Its like comparing apples with pears.😅 But I live your Videos. GREAT WORK
Also I (and probably nobody in czech republic) have never heard of Praga bear, and nobody drinks Samson (its actually owned by Anheuser Busch). Budwar is too sweet (probably reason you like it as Americans) for lot of czech people. Pilsner is OK, but there are better beers.
@@FilipZapletal Pilsner used to be better, I'd say today's king is definitely Kozel, I used to really like Svijany, but it's been like 7 years ago I had them last time, and it was in Croatia. So can't tell.
As a German I love Pilsner Urquell. Pilsner (or short: Pils) is a kind of beer brewed in the same fashion as Pilsner Urquell (which was the first of that kind). Pils (or Pilsner type beers) is the most common one in Germany. Every large (nationwide) brewery has at least one Pils on sale. The main beers you can buy in Germany are Pilsen kind, though other styles are brewed and sold as well. Heavy hopsed ones take some times to get used to. BTW Pilsen kind of beers need to be drunk really cold (and you have to be careful to pour it along the side of the glass - held tilted - and the foam is only half of what you get if just let it run down). Czechvar is a Lager beer in contrast to Pilsner Urquell. The first is a little „softer“, the latter has more bitterness. (Most women do like the softer kind, Pils are not their favorites.) But in the end it is just a matter of taste.
@@DecisionPlay Cheers from Germany! Though I tried different types of beer several times, like Weizen, Kölsch, Alt, Bock, Schwarzbier and several others - I always got back to a Pilsener style one. There are several nice Lagers, but well, in the end they lack a bit. There are so many Pilsener style beers to choose from, good ones and not so good ones. Pilsener Urquell is one of the best, but of course there are many other good ones too. I like the ones that are smooth and light on the tongue, with a light bitterness lingering behind. It is one sign of a good Pils that the bitterness is not too hard or too harsh. 👍
Did you know that Pilsner Urquell is originally a German recipe? The "chef" was invited from Bavaria to brew a beer of the classic Bavarian type. But our soft water and high-quality hops from Žatec made the beer taste completely different and people liked it immediately.
Urquell is for sure a lager as well, but Czechvar is a not a pilsner beer, but more like a German Helles. Try the Budvar 33, that is a proper pilsner beer.
So I guess you are more of a lager type of persons, because Budvar/Budweiser is a Lager brewtype (more sweet) and the Praga and the Pilsner Urquell are Pilsner brewtypes wich is more bitter/herb/sharp. Thats a crucial characteristic of a Pilsner. If you drink this more often then you will surely develop a taste for it because its more refreshing especially when served cold enough. Prost from Nuremberg, Frankonia, Germany 🍻 Love your Videos! Keep it up 😊
Its really night and day for me... I love even some basic cheeper beer, but i cant stand Budvar and Pilsner Urquell is a 12/10 for me. So weird how different our taste preferences can be, the diversity is a blessing in that sense. In my country (Serbia), we have a well known saying "O ukusima ne treba raspravljati", which means "We should not debate the taste."
Alle three of them are lagers. Urquell is a pilsner type of lager. Budvar Original is lager but not a pilser, it is more like a German Helles. Urquell has proper bitterness and a fantastic balance. Budvar brewery decided to make a pilsner beer and came out with Budvar 33, which is for me much better than the Budvar Original.
Na zdraví from Czech Republic. Budvar is great beer from Budějovice that has its history. Ownd by state. Samson is also beer from Budějovice with even longer history, that if they'd wanna - they'd might be rightful chalenger for Budweiser stamp to Budvar, if they'd stayed with original recepture, which they don't. Also they are American owned. Pilsner Urquelle - the original Pills is great beer from Plzeň that also has great history. Owned now by some japanese or whatever company, but stayed with original recepture to keep Pilsner Urqurelle you may say quality stamp. Best one is poured one in pub. :) Praga is some licenced export crap made who knows where owned by who knows who. BTW density and amount of fome on quality beer depends on cleannes and temperatire of glass and on temperature of beer. Also on how you pour it - from high or slowly on the glass. How much foam you have on beer also changes its carbonation and taste, therefore we have several different types of pouring in pubs: 1) Hladinka - Level - poured all at once, foam first beer under it - four fingers of beer two fingers of foam. - quite a lot carbonated pour. 2) Nadvakrát - Twice poured with pause - visually almost same as hladinka, less carbonated. 3) Šnyt - small beer in big glass - two fingers of beer, 3 fingers of foam, and on finger empty - again more foam less carbonation. 4) Mlíko - milk - just foam - next to no carbonation - refresher beer 5) Čochtan - just beer with no foam - british pour - highly carbonated - pisswater for us. 6) Řezané - cutted - special mix of dark and light beer one on top of the other - need skilled bartender to make it right. Taste is also about in what container is the beer distributed. My personal favourites are: On tap - Pilsner Urquelle. I do not like it from bottle or can, but it is just made for tap. Form glass bottle - Kozel 10° - My favourite beer to garden party. From aluminium can - Kozel 11° - my second favourite to garden party. From plastic 2l bottle - Březňák. (Crappy beer in general but made for frappy plastic bottles - it is better from plastic than otherwise better beers) - My favourite for trips when you know you cannot keep good quality beer, but you do not want cheap pisswater.
I love Kozel, too and Bernard. But nothing can beat tankové pivo (mainly Pilsner Urquell). I was lucky that I was responsible for brand marketing on regional level and I could visit your country 5-6 times a year so spent the evenings drinkig beer with my colleagues and stock-up on the way home in Brno in the hypermarkets. :)
Your family is great. Ian, you’re a genuine, no shit sorta guy, in modern parlance, authentic. You can’t buy that! It’s a major contributor to your UA-cam success. Power to you
19:37 The foam turns to beer as it is a beer. :) The foam isn't just for the looks but it prevents the liquid from oxidizing and thus keeping the desired taste for longer.
In the Netherlands it is normal for there to be 2 fingers of foam on your beer. And the foam ensures that the carbon stays in the beer longer. Greetings from Spakenburg, Netherlands.
It's normal everywhere but America bro. Because everywhere else we make beer. Only Americans have water without foam. Plus, maybe you've noticed how they can't pour beer
You can indeed drink the foam. In the Czech Republic you can buy something that is called “Mliko” (Milk) in the pub and it’s pretty much 95% foam. It’s definitely a unique experience. Depeneding on the amount of foam it will have a different name when you order it. So from the most foam to the least it’s: Mliko (95% foam) / Snyt (60% foam) / Hladinka (40% foam) / Cochtan (0% foam). Personally I think Hladinka is perfect for me. Here in Poland we like Czech beers quite a lot. I think one that is definitely worth checking out is “Kozel”. Especially the dark one. “Zlaty Bazant” and maybe “Zatecky” are also very good from the ones we have access to here. I’d love to send you guys some beers from Poland but the shipping cost to the US would be like $150 for the courier alone which is a bit too much for me right now :(. And I’m not 100% if it’s even legal to send alcohol. I’d have to read on it. PS. The mancave was AWESOME. And very neat and orderly aswell. Collections like these are usually a big mess. But not here. Respect.
Czechvar is "light" beer, easy to drink. Pilsner is mass produced premium beer and it is supposed to be served with food. It tastes best after some heavy food. Classic is Duck and dumplings with cabbage. All beers should be cold. Not ice cold but cold. Those another beers, I have no idea what they are. All beers should have a foam cap. If not, you are doing it wrong and it will has too many bubbles inside and those will go out in your stomach. You do not want that. Foam cap looks good and protect the beer during the long conversation in a pub.
Pilsener Urquell is one of my favourites. You need to try it from barrels. It's incredibly good! We have some nice bars in Berlin with very big barrels. The taste will knock you down 😂
That design on the tab of Pilsner Urquell is actuall original gate to brewery in Pislen city. Its still standing btw. And as a Pislener myslef and beer lover i never see any of those others :)
Actually You can open one bottle with another (it's always good to have one extra ;) You can also open bottle with belt, lighter, ring, keys, heel, any sharp edge and also paper. You need just keep folding it until you will get sharp edge. ;)
Our most popular beer in the Czech Republic is Pilsner Urquell. It is definitely worth having it fresh and on tap from a bartender who has a certificate for pouring Pilsner. Another thing about the foam, we can serve beer in 4 ways, namely: "Čochtan". Beer on tap with almost no foam. Čochtan is very refreshing and ideal for quenching thirst. "Mlíko" The purpose is to fill the glass to the brim with beer, creamy to creamy foam that is drinkable and full of beer, at first glance resembling a glass of milk. Hence its name. The spell takes effect if drunk immediately after tapping. Beer tapped in this way seems to taste sweeter. "Šnyt" It originated in the days when tapmen tested the quality of beer in the cellars before each new keg was tapped. It's actually a small pint of beer. The beer has a rich foam and at the same time retains all its best qualities. A very popular way of drinking beer for connoisseurs. "Hladinka". The level is a very widespread style of tenoning. It is the simplest and the most gentle on beer. It is a fast way of tapping, where the beer is tapped in one go. In this way, it will retain its unique sharpness and freshness. Beer brewed without foam is considered bland in our country, it is often the case with lagers, which is a less common type of beer that Czechs like to consume. Enjoy it, Cheers. Hi beertesters, I am a swedish man who loves beers and for a couple of years ago I visited USA and ofcourse I tested some beer. I did not fancy your Budviser, actually quite disaponted but I found another one I think the name was San Fransisco Steam Beer or similar, very tasty in my opinion. Have you tested Belgium beer, if not do! Actually many Swedish beers are also tasteful! Skål! 😜
Pilsner is very hoppy. Refreshing bitter taste, especially great in the summertime. Budvar is a more balanced beer, more suitable for average taste. You can also get some beers that are more on the malt side, for those that prefer the malty tastes of beer. People tend to forget that beer is just as varied as wine. You can get various taste profiles in both, all based on your personal taste.
In Czech bars and for bottled beers, the server will often swiftly upend a bottle into the glass and just let it glug until the glass is almost full of froth, then stop pouring. This is NOT sloppy service but quite deliberate! You end up with the beer degassing (making all of that froth) in the glass and not in your stomach. This means that you are actually able to consume more beer, which is great news for the bar owner!
I had to laugh when i saw your trouble with opening the beer bottle 😀(In Czechia) We use a variety of objects for this, like: lighter, spoon, keys, ring, another bottle of beer and whatever we have at hand ... nothing will stop our alcoholism 😀
You should come to the Czech Republic and try one draft. There's literally a school for innkeepers on how to pour a beer properly here. The glass is properly cold, beer is poured properly from a tank... It's a completely different experience then from a bottle or a can. EDIT: Also having a foam protects your beer from dirt and debris falling into it. It just lands on the foam. You are supposed to drink your half-litre beer in 7 to 15 minutes.
Czech here from Prague, thanks for entertainment and a great video on the first place :) I was just a little bit surprised with you having a problem to open the bottles ... here everybody has a small beer bottle opener on their keys. Also I had Praga like once and it is not good, just a tourist trap beer I guess. And Samson is very cheep beer like less then one dollar and in sale for even half a dollar so Czech homeless choice :D
Foam is great! In fact when you order Pilsner from the tap, you can have it 3 ways: -Hladinka english level/surface - it full glass poured in one go with one and half inch of foam -Snyt I cant translate that - its about 1/3 of beer and rest is foam, I was told you order it when you want small beer,BUT man never order small beer, so you order snyt :D -Mlieko english milk - its glass of foam from top to bottom And to have Pilsner the right way, they always use cold glass. In many pubs they have special ,,pool,, of cold water where they store beer glass. Here is short vid ua-cam.com/video/AdV1Y0xIE2k/v-deo.html, he pours hladinka, mlieko, snyt and something I never heard of.
Agreed, I'm from Finland as well. German beer was my first crush, then I played around with Belgian and Polish beer, and eventually Czech beer became my wife.
The current retail price of the Pilsner Urquell in can which you are holding in your hand is 1.3-1.5 USD in the Czech Republic in 2024. 1.1 USD is usually the sale price (offer) of the chain stores. In Germany, this beer is sometimes offered for 68 cents in a bottle (special offer)😊 It is also good to know that in the Czech Republic the same domestic beers are cheaper in glass bottles than in cans.
The crazy thing is that the best Budweiser on earth you can get is in “Schweizerhaus” in Vienna! It is the biggest buyer of the Budweiser Brewery in the entire World. This Restaurant with a large beer garden located in the heart of Austrians capital sells about 25000 beers a day in summer.
Schlitz is back on the market but currently only available in 4 states. Illinois, Wisconsin, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. It is head and shoulders better than many domestic beers. Schaeffer was the toilet water often confused with Schlitz.
Hi from Czech Republic! :) I am really glad you like it :) It's interesting that I don't know Praga beer and neither does Samson beer :D But if I can recommend a beer from the Czech Republic. Try to get "Svijans". Specifically Svijanský Máz (11°)
@IWrocker. Google transl- I like how you like the Czech Republic. I love the WRC Octavia and I experienced the Barum rally where I think there were 30 of them. Unreal experience. I come from the Czech Republic, but I'm actually a Moravian. Next, we have Slezany, if you know, I don't know :D . Our beer is great. Ikona Ověřeno komunitou
Hello. From the window, I am looking at one of the breweries you tested, Budějovický BUDVAR (Czechvar in the USA). I'm not surprised that you like it, it's sweet to our taste and that's why Pilsen is more popular. SAMSON is not so preferred (it is a bit sour), but it has its supporters. I don't know the brand PRAGUE, probably some kind of export. If you want to try the strongest lagers, they are brewed by the Náchod brewery under the names EXKLUZIV 16° (7.5%) and IMPERIAL 21° (9%). Cheers.
No Radegast beer? Oh well, it is hard to get any Czech stuff in the USA, so I ain't disappointed, just that Radegast is my favorite (I live near Ostrava so probably biased lol). 1:55 That is absolutely correct, good job!
@HaunebuZwei8 Cheap beers are not fun, Bruncvík is trash, only good cheap beer is German called Stephans Brau... That stuff is okay, I like the black Stephans Brau, it ain't awful.
Someone already mentioned it but I will also try to quickly sum um the foam problem. Czech beer is not usually served half-foam, half-beer. Usually we drink it so that maybe one fifth of the glass is foamy. However, the preference may vary with person and mood. Also, you can definitely drink foam in czech beers. Although to have a good foam-beer (mlíko or milk in english), you would need a tap to tap the beer from. Altogether, any beer is much better from tap. That is why Czech people usually drink beer casually from a bottle, but if they want to really have a gourmet experience, they go to a local pub with very clean glasses and pipes and to someone who can pour beer properly. It really changes the taste a lot.
I agree, no real mancave is completed, always growing, or keeps going better. And it was good to see bows and arrows, too. Nice video! And yes, Pilsner Urquelle is ok, amongst others, though I'm drinking Staropramen Praha right now. Just because it's the best for me. Cheers from Hungary!
When it comes to local prices, only pilsner and budvar are sold in CZ. The other 2 are export beer brands and these are in general not very good. That said, the Budvar is around 60-80 cents and pilsner around 1-1.5 USD, if you buy it in store. At pubs the prices are between 2-3 USD.
I haven't tried it even though it's next to my country, because I'm only 17, but it's gonna be the first beer I'll drink when I'll be 18. Yes, in Slovakia we can drink from 18 and drive from 17 (with co-driver, who's active driver for more than 20 years) or from 18 alone.
Real stramapraman, budvar and pilsner Urquell are all gorgeous beers. In the uk some are copied and you have to make sure you’re buying original brewed in Czech. Then you get the taste. My fav Czech brewed stramapraman
@13:54 The Samson Original Czech Lager Bock is a "special beer". The others are pilseners, you can't compare it to a "Bock beer" (original 'invented' in Einbeck, Germany. (Hence the name)).👴😉
Indeed.. Bock beer is a different kind of beer. It's kind of beer you drink next to a fireplace in the fall, not just as a quick drink with some friends.
Czech Beer is the oldest known beer in Europe and thus the best in Europe. My experience with Pilsner Urquel is buying it cold and drinking it with the whole six pack out. The closer the remaining bottles get to room temp, the better tasting.
Why is he downing these? Beer is supposed to be enjoyed, slowly, with taste. He's throwing em like a prep student. Dare him to try this with Belgian beer
Exactly, I did not liked that guy. Downing it and then immediately spitting some numbers to rate it. Doesn't matter if these numbers are good or bad, they're irrelevant. And obviously these numbers bad, because Ian did not bought the best beers, heck not even good beers. Me, as Czech I never heard of Praga or Samson. but I guess there is not much to chose from
I love these beer tasting vids. and the man cave collection is awesome! So much cool stuff! And it's so well organised. I'd love more in depth tour, I just love looking at random cool stuff
The art is how beer is poured into glasses in Czech pubs. They do it in such a way that the beer is naturally off-gassing, so you can drink 10 pints and not be bloated. Czech pubs (‘hospoda’) are the best place in the world to drink Czech beers :)
Hi IWrocker, I'm from the Czech Republic, Budweis - České Budějovice where Budweiser and Samson are made. The Budweiser is a sweeter lager. They also started making a bitter version which is called simply "33", because it is 33 on the IBU biterness scale. Samson is very good, but you should get the regular export lager, not the Bock. The bock is too strong and very specific in taste. And finally the Pilsner Urquell - the first lager beer ever made on planet Earth. It's the best Czech beery, the most premium and the most expensive one. And it's probably the only beerI that is wildly recommended drinking by doctors for it's health benefits. I love it's mild taste, yet bitter and very easy to drink. It's only 4.4% so it actually shouldn't be called a lager, but it got an exception from the state because it is so unique and so known around the world. We have many many more beer. I recommend trying Kozel, Radegast, Gambrinus, Staropramen etc. and we have probably hundreds of smaller breweries that make fantastic local beer without pasterization so it is super fresh. And if you visit Czech Rep., you can get there a special Budweiser from a tank which is called "Kroužek" (Circle). It's very fresh and unique. I really enjoy your passion for Czech cars and Czech beer. Good luck with your channel journey! Cheers🍻
As Czech beerlover I have to write that Czechvar (in Czechia we called it Budvar) is sweeter than Pilsner Urquell (in Czechia Prazdroj) and hangover is worst after Budvar (headache). These two are the best what you can drink in czech pub (expect local small brewery). I will say goodbye with czech proverb:"Zdar a sílu najdeš v pivu." (you find success and strength in beer).
Also, the Samson is is brewed in the same city as the Budweiser, so you better check where it was brewed, because if not there, it's probably some licenced crap and that's why it sucks. And I don't mind Samson here. The license brewing sucks. I had Heineken from tap in Netherlands, and it was nice. I had it at home, brewed under licence in Krušovice, and it sucks balls.
Also never heard of Praga or Samson :) Pilsner is the most frequent beer for us Czechs to recommend to foreigners just because it's a good all-arounder, when you don't really know what you prefer. I personally wouldn't say that it's the best in taste, color, etc... But it does everything really well. I would love you to try Radegast 12 though haha. Known for it's bitterness, I guess that would be an interesting experience :)
@@consonaadversapars Staropramen is a pale draught and Kozel is a lager so idk how this comparison works, I think all of those beers are really good in their own categories.
Please try to get some small breweries like: Poutník, Polička, Krakonoš, Chotěboř, Dudák. This kind of beers are SO MUCH better as “eurobeees” like Pilsner.
Specifically, the foam (also called the head) prevents oxidation of the beer, which makes the beer taste worse and its not desired. We do not want to be chugging our beers however, so thats why the foam is present. And contrary to belief of many, the foam isnt waste - its also beer. If you pour a proper beer with foam and let it sit until the foam dissipates, the level of beer will go up.
I tried to explain that to a guy in the UK once where a pint glass (568ml) holds exactly 1 pint when filled to the top. He argued that with a head he would get less beer but in Germany (I assume this might be the same in Czech Republic) a beer glass is marked about one fifth of the way down. Up to tat mark it has to be beer and the space above is for the head so you do get exact amount of beer you pay for and the protective head. My dad also taught me that if I order a draft beer in Germany and it arrives in under 5 to 8 minutes I should go and find a better pub.
@@gustavmeyrink_2.0 That 5 to 8 minute thing is pretty controversial, its not true in my opinion. Good bartender (výčepní) will know how to pour a proper beer based on the type, brand and desired pour. There are quite a few techniques, some prefer a 1time pour (all in one), some do a 2time pour (one pour, wait for a bit of the head to dissipate and finish it off), some even do a 3time pour. But thats just details and most people outside the beer countries wont even be able to tell the difference.
@@WelsyCZ First pour is always nothing but head which then needs to settle before being topped up a few times until the required amount of beer is in the glass. Needs topping up 3 to 4 times. Never really seen any other way, not even from the 50L keg we had on my 18th unless you create a lot of wastage in the name of speed.
i don't know if i'm biased, but last summer i was on holiday in Barcelona and i had to find czech pub, bcs i couldn't withstand any other beer then the czech ones, So for me the Pilsner Urquell is the best one. btw love your vids
Next time you should try Slovak beer: Zlatý Bažant (there are various types, try 12% and '73), Corgoň, Urpiner, Stupavar, Kelt, Steiger, Šariš, Topvar, I don't know what you can get in US.
I just wanted to add something to the prices. Pilsner in glass bottle costs ~25Kč(Czech Crowns) which about a dollar. And it's considered a more expensive beers. (But you have to take into account that we have smaller wages). But you could get some very very cheap beers, one which has almost become a MEME is Braník which you can get 2L for little more than a dollar.
Finally it worked and I'm a member! I love and enjoying you and everyone around you. If you do a trip to Berlin Germany you're welcome and let's have a beer with a tasty Currywurst❤ big hugs
As someone, who live in Czech republic, I am very happy to see videos like this. I love beer and i have tryed lot of beers after 31years of life. If I can recommend you, try Radegast 12° , or Radegast Ratar, or 10° . For me, it's best beer from czech republic. But be prepared for lot of bitterness
After seeing the mancave-footage, a couple of questions: - what's the story with the backwards shooting gun? - why is buying Lucky Strikes cigarettes difficult? They are for sale everywhere here in Netherlands, I could get a pack in 5 minutes, no problem? I, myself, am a collector of sorts, styling my living room with durable everyday used historic machines. I got a working pinball-machine and a jukebox, next to an old gas-meter and a T65, a spinning number telephone. I love these collections, if I lived in a bigger house, I probably end up with a similar museum-mancave, very cool.
To be fair, I am a Czech and I have never heard of Praga or Samson, like ever. It's true I'am only 20, so I've been able to drink for only two years (the legal age to drink in Czechia is 18). But never the less, these beers are not well known. You would not be able to find them in any mainstream supermarket, or any liquor store. If you will be going for a round two of Czech beers I'd suggest to try these: Svijany, Kozel, Staropramen and Braník (the last one might be on the wild side, as you can get hald a litre for 50 cents USD, or two liter for what would be 1.80 USD). Great video and I hope you will enjoy more beers from all around Europe. Cheers!
There is actually a lot more breweies you can find only in Czech Republic, a lot of times even only in some regions of the country so I would recommend some time to travel around here for a bit. There's not only good beers but also really nice places to visit.
Sorry guys, but you have been lied to. As a Czech, I have never heard or seen a Praga, and Samson is literally in the bottom 3% of beers in Czech. :) Have some Krušovice, Kozel 11°, maybe some smaller breweries - we can recommend some. Pilsner Urqell is our jewel, I hope the trip to US didn't screw it much :) We like our beers a bit more bitter, so for us the Pilsner is better then Czechvar. But I'm glad you enjoyed :)
Just a tip from a czech : when u pour the beer, pour it in a way so it slides slowly on the side of the glass and only when u are like 3/4 done start porin it more from the top to adjust the foam
For what I understand: A bock beer has to do with the aging of the hop? Like; A spring bock is under ripe and the fall is over? And then they use way to mutch of it. Not my thing either.
Drinking in good bars in Prague, you get offered Dark or Light versions of their house beer, that's it. The light is like a Pilsner or even a Helles. The dark is like a German Dunkel or a British Scotch, malty and often yeasty. Brought to your table in glass mugs and served with a flourish and a bit of a table slide. Always plenty head and tons of life in the glass. Gorgeous stuff!!
For you Chicago enthusiasts out there: There was a Czech mayor of Chicago 90 years ago… Anton Joseph Cermak (Czech: Antonín Josef Čermák, pronounced [ˈantoɲiːn ˈjozɛf ˈtʃɛrmaːk]; May 9, 1873 - March 6, 1933) was an American politician who served as the 44th mayor of Chicago, Illinois, from April 7, 1931, until his assassination in 1933.
As a Czech I wanna say you pour it in the center, let the foam sit and pour again and again. If you pour it on the glass, you get a lot of the sparkling thats heavy on your stomach and makes you burp. Other people say that its done fo the taste. If you wait for the foam to sit you get a better experience.

draft beer from a pub can take 3 forms
So totally agree with the scores 😀
Anyway the foam is not for a cool factor but for conservation. The longer it sits without foam the worse the taste gets.
Tbh litovel is good. But there is always someone higher who tells breweries to brew cheap shit beer by different brand and sell it to tourists or old/poor ppl
foam protects the beer from oxidation and therefore prevents from chemical reaction that ruins the taste
@@Kid_Naps also foam has sweeter taste than beer itself.

Exactly what I thought. The more bitter ones become instantly gross, when they are too warm.

In the Czech Republic, 550 different brands of beer are brewed, i like Pilsner Urquell 12° and Radegast 12°
You are aware, that Radegast is in Saxony?
@@melchiorvonsternberg844 Radegast is actually a slavic pagan god that has a statue at Pustevny in Beskydy mountains, which is used as a logo of a brewery of the same name located few kilometers away at Nošovice, just having Radegast 12° myself

I mean Samson is quite popular in South Bohemian region
Samson is also from Budějovice
You can normally buy Samson, i've seen it in COOP and Terno. But never heard of Praga.
fun fact: Samson brewery was bought by Anheuser-Busch and they use it in legal war with Budvar (they can now say that they own brewery in Budweis).

Useless beer? More like piss
What? Its Litovel? Lol
@@spineal I've found this info on internet. But I won't bet my life on it. Any other brewery can use this brand for export over the pond :)
It is made by Samson not Litovel. You can even see it on the bottle in the video.
German here. Those beers has different ways of brewing. FIRST one, was Lager, SECOND was Bock, THIRT original Pils. Its like comparing apples with pears.😅 But I live your Videos. GREAT WORK
No, it's like comparing different breeds of apples. Your comparison would be akin to comparing beer to cider.
The lack of knowledge about beer is stunning and not in a good way 😂
A belgian quadruple would be interesting to watch them drink 🇩🇰🇩🇪
I totally agree. How can you compare three different beer types? Lager with Bock With Pils?? Not possible.
When I was at Plzeňský Prazdroj brewery, I drank Urquell directly from the barrel, unfiltered. It was an explosion of flavour.
My man! Pilsner all the way! Cheers from Czechia🍻
Prost from Nuremberg, Frankonia, Germany 🍻
Love your Videos!
We have the same saying in germany 😊👍🏼
Praga is some licenced export crap made who knows where owned by who knows who.
BTW density and amount of fome on quality beer depends on cleannes and temperatire of glass and on temperature of beer. Also on how you pour it - from high or slowly on the glass.
How much foam you have on beer also changes its carbonation and taste, therefore we have several different types of pouring in pubs:
1) Hladinka - Level - poured all at once, foam first beer under it - four fingers of beer two fingers of foam.
4) Mlíko - milk - just foam - next to no carbonation - refresher beer
5) Čochtan - just beer with no foam - british pour - highly carbonated - pisswater for us.
6) Řezané - cutted - special mix of dark and light beer one on top of the other - need skilled bartender to make it right.
Taste is also about in what container is the beer distributed.
My personal favourites are:
On tap - Pilsner Urquelle.
Praga is also from Samson, it's written on the bottle in the video. As you say... some export shiet.

19:37 The foam turns to beer as it is a beer. :)
The foam isn't just for the looks but it prevents the liquid from oxidizing and thus keeping the desired taste for longer.
In the Netherlands it is normal for there to be 2 fingers of foam on your beer. And the foam ensures that the carbon stays in the beer longer. Greetings from Spakenburg, Netherlands.

Respect.
You can actually drink beer foam. In the Czech Republic, some well-known pubs tap beers that are specially made only from foam and are very good😊
Czechvar is "light" beer, easy to drink.
Czechvar is also @massproduced@, whatever negative label that is
Thanks for the great video. And btw: there will be a Czech Beer festival in Chicago on February 24th.
So the question is: video when?
Pilsener Urquell is one of my favourites. You need to try it from barrels. It's incredibly good!
We have some nice bars in Berlin with very big barrels. The taste will knock you down 😂
Urquell non/pasteurized from from tank is even better.
You need just keep folding it until you will get sharp edge. ;)
I saw people opening bottle with teeth and eye

Foam is great! In fact when you order Pilsner from the tap, you can have it 3 ways:

-Snyt I cant translate that - its about 1/3 of beer and rest is foam, I was told you order it when you want small beer,BUT man never order small beer, so you order snyt :D
-Mlieko english milk - its glass of foam from top to bottom

The current retail price of the Pilsner Urquell in can which you are holding in your hand is 1.3-1.5 USD in the Czech Republic in 2024. 1.1 USD is usually the sale price (offer) of the chain stores. In Germany, this beer is sometimes offered for 68 cents in a bottle (special offer)😊
It is also good to know that in the Czech Republic the same domestic beers are cheaper in glass bottles than in cans.
Pilsner Urquell is for me absolute 10
The crazy thing is that the best Budweiser on earth you can get is in “Schweizerhaus” in Vienna! It is the biggest buyer of the Budweiser Brewery in the entire World. This Restaurant with a large beer garden located in the heart of Austrians capital sells about 25000 beers a day in summer.
I do love Pilsner, BUT not bottled/canned one that much in compare to one in a pub. They often offer it from tanks, not kegs.
Schlitz is back on the market but currently only available in 4 states. Illinois, Wisconsin, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. It is head and shoulders better than many domestic beers. Schaeffer was the toilet water often confused with Schlitz.

@HaunebuZwei8 Cheap beers are not fun, Bruncvík is trash, only good cheap beer is German called Stephans Brau... That stuff is okay, I like the black Stephans Brau, it ain't awful.

Urquell on tap is one of my favourites, its better than the can for sure!
Regarding the foam, you wait untill it settles then you drink it =)
out of the bottle too would have to be better. I had it out of a bottle and couldn't fault it.
This channel might turn to a beer channel! And yes! Deeper tour on the main cave please!🎉
Na zdraví! very nicely said ;)
Second time they said it pretty well.
Asi prvý Slovák, čo nepil pred 18tkou 😅
That man cave is brilliant! So many different things, very eclectic taste lol
Love the whole review and the conversation you guys had along with it. More of these please
Why is he downing these? Beer is supposed to be enjoyed, slowly, with taste. He's throwing em like a prep student. Dare him to try this with Belgian beer
Think he is trying to get drunk fast. Nothing to do with tasting. And the fast drinking causes excessive burping that is in no way tasteful. 👎👎👎
Exactly, I did not liked that guy. Downing it and then immediately spitting some numbers to rate it. Doesn't matter if these numbers are good or bad, they're irrelevant. And obviously these numbers bad, because Ian did not bought the best beers, heck not even good beers. Me, as Czech I never heard of Praga or Samson.
but I guess there is not much to chose from
why not? It's a tasting let the man taste. Imagine he spat every sip into a glass kitchenware if you need to.
Czechs have very specific ways of pouring beer, always with big head of 'foam' I live close to Czechia, wonderful people. Živjeli 🍺 Na zdravi 🙋♀️
Urquell on a warm summers day is perfection:)
I love these beer tasting vids. and the man cave collection is awesome! So much cool stuff! And it's so well organised. I'd love more in depth tour, I just love looking at random cool stuff
Foam-wise, Gregg has the art of pouring down. The first time on the Urquell.😂
The art is how beer is poured into glasses in Czech pubs. They do it in such a way that the beer is naturally off-gassing, so you can drink 10 pints and not be bloated. Czech pubs (‘hospoda’) are the best place in the world to drink Czech beers :)
It's not a bad beer, but a different beer .
Cheers🍻
3 men can't open a beer! Come on guys. If it's beer, I'll open it with my eye lids
For real, I open it with two pieces of paper 😂
As Czech beerlover I have to write that Czechvar (in Czechia we called it Budvar) is sweeter than Pilsner Urquell (in Czechia Prazdroj) and hangover is worst after Budvar (headache). These two are the best what you can drink in czech pub (expect local small brewery). I will say goodbye with czech proverb:"Zdar a sílu najdeš v pivu." (you find success and strength in beer).
yes kozel 11 is top if u can find that one
I am Czech and I recommend trying Kozel beer, this beer tastes the best of all, I recommend Kozel 11 and 12, have a nice day 🙂
Im from Czechia and i have never heard of Praga bear that must be just bear for import
It looks warm. That's why the foam is coming out from that Praga (which I never ever have seen in czechia). It's probably renamed again.
Idk why people thought these were warm. They were freezing cold 🥶 🎉
@@IWrocker I was looking for some condensation on the bottles or wet stickers. Maybe you just have dry air. My bad.
About the Pragha: Chill it properly (44°f), and save it for a hot summer day. Then you'll give it at least a 7.
Yea! But if they like Czechvar (Budvar) they would propably like Staropramen more.
The best for me is Radegast 12
No Staropramen, Gambrinus or Kozel?
Staropramen and Gambrinus are so-so, but Kozel is great.
Haven’t found those yet
Those are not export beers. Maybe in an speciality import store.
@@consonaadversapars Staropramen is a pale draught and Kozel is a lager so idk how this comparison works, I think all of those beers are really good in their own categories.
@@consonaadversapars Kozel Cerny is delicious.
Please try to get some small breweries like:
Poutník, Polička, Krakonoš, Chotěboř, Dudák.
This kind of beers are SO MUCH better as “eurobeees” like Pilsner.

Foam on beer is for protection of beer taste. So thats why in Czech, tap beer have quiet a big portion of foam.
That is really not true for all beers. A decent Pilsner Urquell pour can be done within 10 seconds, no need of topping off.@@gustavmeyrink_2.0
Americans being amazed of the foam is one of the funniest thing to a Czech if you ask me :DD
You are not used how real beer taste 😂And beer shall be cold
These were ice cold 🎉
i don't know if i'm biased, but last summer i was on holiday in Barcelona and i had to find czech pub, bcs i couldn't withstand any other beer then the czech ones, So for me the Pilsner Urquell is the best one. btw love your vids
After seeing the mancave-footage, a couple of questions:
- what's the story with the backwards shooting gun?
- why is buying Lucky Strikes cigarettes difficult? They are for sale everywhere here in Netherlands, I could get a pack in 5 minutes, no problem?
I, myself, am a collector of sorts, styling my living room with durable everyday used historic machines. I got a working pinball-machine and a jukebox, next to an old gas-meter and a T65, a spinning number telephone. I love these collections, if I lived in a bigger house, I probably end up with a similar museum-mancave, very cool.
I'm Czech and I've never heard of Praga beer. By the way, Praga is a Czech car brand. Check it out, it might interest you as a car fan. ;-)
Try KOZEL 11 or HOLBA 11 ŠERÁK, great beers! greetings from Czechia
Ian’s gonna be upset but “Americans loving the most beige eurobeer” was definitely not a surprise 🤣
Have some Krušovice, Kozel 11°, maybe some smaller breweries - we can recommend some.
Pilsner Urqell is our jewel, I hope the trip to US didn't screw it much :)
We like our beers a bit more bitter, so for us the Pilsner is better then Czechvar.
For you Chicago enthusiasts out there: There was a Czech mayor of Chicago 90 years ago…
Anton Joseph Cermak (Czech: Antonín Josef Čermák, pronounced [ˈantoɲiːn ˈjozɛf ˈtʃɛrmaːk]; May 9, 1873 - March 6, 1933) was an American politician who served as the 44th mayor of Chicago, Illinois, from April 7, 1931, until his assassination in 1933.
