Yeah the last two times I've been out I've fished much lighter than I usually do hoping to get a bite. I got two small jacks and a massive tarpon the other morning otherwise I've been really struggling to get a good fish lately. But that's fishing!!
Haha yeah man I was up having some black tea with some lemon and honey in it. Throat feels like I’ve swallowed nails! That sure is fishing mate but I’d certainly rather go light and potentially get owned from time to time, rather than go to heavy and not get the bite at all hey
@@lukesfishinmission7596 oh I hope you're not getting crook mate, good thing you're getting on top of it early. Yeah the light tackle thing I'm going to make more of an effort with I reckon. I just need to get over the "what if I hook a big fish" way of thinking. Especially in more open water for sure.

I can’t remember because I have to wait till Christmas to get them but I’m think they were something like a daiwa slippery dog

@@jenniferbaumgartner1770I don’t know the area sorry. Find the flats and fish the incoming tide and you should do ok. Look for yabbie beds and little gutters as well

Living in Sydney, I’m struggling to find a good spot to catch whiting on surface lures. I’ve tried many locations in & around Sydney that look good for whiting on surface but no luck.
Mate all I can say is stick at it. If you are fishing the gutters on beaches or around a little shale or weed edges on an incoming tide, they will be there. Get yourself one of these and give it a crack
you don't really need to go super light for whiting. I was fishing with a 5-8kg rod with a 4000 spin reel using vibe lures just fine. caught plenty.
Yeah you can catch any fish on any gear but it’s a lot more fun with light gear and generally the lighter you go, the more you will catch
I’ve been teaching my kid, with some garbage rod and reel combos. The key is light drag, then tighten up as you engage the fish. My most successful fishing rod cost $3 at a church sale.

Keep putting the time in mate. If they are following they should eat at some point. Maybe slow down your retrieve?
