Every note is perfect, and normally I can enjoy this piece immensely, but listening to this version hurt me more than I can express in words. Here is a soul crying out "de profundis" and nobody helped him.
ppphilippos, By the way He recoded the full sonatas y partitas in 1979 after this inteview in the emi booklet and 3 years before his suicide. I think it's his last recording.
No offense to anyone, but I hate when someone compares someone to another. If you have a comment to make about about someone, just make it. Don't use someone else as the basis. Gould was Gould. Ferras was Ferras. They have very little in common other than playing Bach. OK. Maybe they were extremely introspective. I have this LP. I can't listen to any longer: it tears my heart too much. A few minutes of UA-cam is enough for me.
Gould!!!!!!!!
Petter Fegran you just gave me something to think about. I love Glenn Gould, perhaps my favorite pianist and I LOVE Ferras as well, technically speaking I still don't know what is that attracts me so much but perhaps is that, he sounds "Gouldish" on the violin. :P
I love Ferras, but when he plays Bach, there is a sence of constriction within his phrasing and overall interpretation. As if he is tethered to a pole. Much of this is do to the strict standards imposed on Baroque piece's. Why can violinist just play such pieces the way we feel like playing it? It is a Solo composition after all.
Hey Leon, I don’t know what planet you are from. I surely don’t think this performance is constricted in the least. If you don’t recognize his greatness in this piece, I’m flabbergasted. And your view of baroque music is ridiculous. Sorry, but your comments are meshuga. They really piss me off.

C'est vrai.

+I Saved The Best For Last This music has a tragic character - but listen to the light in it as well.

This is the most touching performance of the Chaconne, I have heard - along with Segovia´s from 1934.
Segovia !!!!!!!!!
merci thom! cest merveilleux qu il soit toujours vivant !!!
I have been told, that Bach wrote this shortly after the death of his young wife. That might explain the deep emotions embedded in this work.
But it doesn't explain how he was able to conceive this. One of the best expressions of the pinnacle genius he was.
A number one performance in every way.

Magnificent!!!!

Maybe that's because of his sincerity, I feel like every time he played, he srceamed about his suffering

Can we find this on any album?

Just finished going through all the Chaconne performances on this site. My favourites are Arthur Grumiaux and Gidon Kremer.
SONNABEND, where is the part 2 ? ;o) By the way how did you find this recording? Did you buy the LP?
She surely can play...but really, in general, what happened to the sound...
I mean the distinctive and truly individual sound.
The "Glen Gould" in violin......................
