Thanks Docs. A very sensible video. Eat before having a drink, don’t mix the grape with the grain, be very careful if taking medication, and drink plenty of water before, during and after a party.
I am taking this opportunity to wish you, Dr Paul Zalzal and Dr Brad Weening, a very, very happy and healthy new year, and to say how much I’m looking forward to your videos during 2024

Hello docs, i'm fron eastern europe and when i was a child because everyone drank we start drinking young. Some drank stupidly and some wisely. I don't know how is everywhere else but here is a competition, a way of life and a mans worth in the world is measured on how many people you can get under a table and if you get home in one peace you are a legend.
Because of this behavior i was lucky to be taught by my cousin and grandfather the art of drinking. We call it here an art but it's just eat well before going to drink and after every or couple of drinks drink water but never sparkling water and if you drank more than a couple and forgot the water pause for 30 minutes on the alcohol and just have water.
This gave me a super power on those stupidly drinking. Many were slayed by me and legends were sang. Sadly when you met one wisely drinking it was like a game of chess and sometimes i was defeated by some sort of witchery.
This really helped on the next day of drinking too. Here when you party you go a couple days in a row.
I quit professional drinking 7 years ago and now watching this enjoying a glass of wine i teach the people how it's done.
Happy new year docs and thank you for all the videos. Happy new year to everybody as well. Cheers from Europe.

sometimes a bit of a hangover. stops me from drinking longer than when I hydrate and feel ok in the morning. BUT the best thing about drinking and getting older is that I don't stay up all night. Keep up the good work. Happy New Year.

    IBUPROFEN BEFORE GOING TO BED!
A few years ago I figured that a hangover is basically inflammation of the brain so I tried an anti-inflammatory - Ibuprofen. I've found that a cople of 400mg tablets after drinking but BEFORE sleeping reliably prevents a hangover. I'll still feel tired and washed out but I don't get the throbbing head and neck. Taking it in the morning doesn't work for me - it's too late as the damage is already done. Of course the usual advice not to take Ibuprofen on an empty stomach applies.

Becoming old, I usually only have one or 2 drinks because it doesn't mix well with my meds.
My father always ate and took a couple of aspirins before he went out. When he was done partying he would eat a small meal and drank juice or water before going to bed. I followed his routine when I was old enough.

You gentlemen are medical doctors, but I consider myself a professional drinker still I agree a lot with you guys. My first bit of advice is to mix in a sports drink like Gatorade in the process. It not only help hydrate, but you will also maintain your salt levels. My 2nd word of advice is clear liquors that aren't too cheap. A non bottom shelf vodka is great. I wish somebody put popular vodkas through a gas chromatography unit testing for organic impurities, but inlui of that data I suggest middle shelf vodka or better.

When you start with a cup of alcohol containing fluid, take one or two sips, then deposit that cup (with most of the drink still in the cup) on a window sill somewhere so you will be functional to attend the AFTER PARTY and drive home! Limit yourself to two cups to randomly deposit per function. Don't ask how I know this.

    1. Anything brown is disgusting, unless it's gravy or cashmere.
    2. Only the girly drinks are nice, i.e. pernod & black, malibu & pineapple, cinzano & lemonade, but they're quite sweet/heavy so
you don't want more than one or two anyway.
    3. After spending on one or two, you could have probably bought said cashmere.

I'm wondering if dehydration is over-hyped as a cause for hangovers. Logic (at least my logic) holds that if you get dehydrated, you should develop some symptoms of hangover even without alcohol (i.e., dehydration = hangover). My experience is that no matter how dehydrated I get (which is often), I never experience hangover symptoms without drinking alcohol, which implies that it's other variables which play a bigger role in a hangover (e.g., congeners). Whatcha think?

I think most everyone goes through a drinking phase, it's something we want to do when we're younger.
I probably did most of my drinking when I was in my 20's but never drank enough to have hangovers.
I would occasionally have a drink socially and after a while, it was maybe once a year.
Drinking isn't something I've ever enjoyed that much but sometimes I would order a drink because everyone else did.
After a while I decided I don't have to drink to fit in! And none of us should ever feel pressured to drink!
I can't even tell you how long it's been since I had a drink. It's more like decades than years and I'm perfectly happy with that! I don't have to get drunk to have a good time!
These are very good tips for those who intend to drink on New Years Eve! But to take it a step further, make sure you have a ride home! Don't be a casually or don't cause one!
Let's keep everyone safe out there! Take some responsibility for your night out!
