If you're wondering why he has a crossbow instead of an actual normal bow, I genuinely have no idea. The thought of him having a normal bow never crossed my mind and by the time it did I already drew the intro and I was not drawing hands again 😭‼️
Well, back home he has a bow defying laws of nature that only he can bend, so it is safe to assume he possess a vast collection of very rare and specific variations of this weapon.
Honestly, so real-the crossbow looked very cool!!

The method of delivering the arrow to the siren doesn't matter too much imo. This is definitely one of my favorite different beast animatics
Gastraphetes (a type of crossbow) were a favoured weapons in naval combat by the Greeks, being longer ranged than most bows and easier to fire over the prow of a ship. (They were also used in siege warfare) This example would be a small but it could be an improvised piece made from a larger broken bow.
I live for Different Beast animatics that make the crew genuinely freaked out by Ody's command to chop off their tails
Me too, but also love when they all appear like maniacs. Truth be told, I'd like to see both. Some are into it and some are not. It would make that scene so much morally ambiguous than it is, which already is *a lot*
EDIT: Yeah I just finished the video and realized that was what kind of happened here (at least a couple of guys with a murderous glare appeared before the order was given). God, I hate it but also love it.

Yeah, I like both versions, but this gives more forewarning for mutiny that the crew are not entirely on the same page with Odysseus and he is just too focused on his goal to notice or care

He is fed up with the siren pretending to be his wife and i like that the crew at first is like "ha! We are the monster b#tch" but them when ody tells them to cut their tails and throw them back in the water to let them drown they changed from we to he and was like "damn captain, He IS the monster"
I imagine them going from
“Hell yeah! We’re the beasts!” to “Aw hell nah…” while slowly scooting away

0:27 I love how eurylochus supported him when he confronted the siren, because he knows it was difficult for Ody because she looks like his wife. So him putting his hand in Ody's shoulder is a way of saying "You can do this."

I like how Ody was tearing up at the fact that the siren pretend to be his wife, I also liked how the crew looked uneasy at his order to cut off their tails, almost as if they’re shocked or even terrified about what their captain has become from everything that happened.

Gotta love, both the Cyclops and Posiden's presence in Ody, almost like their were silently enjoying how Ody caved into being ruthless even though he is finding it difficult to completely throw his guilt away

Dark but Odysseus had a point. This was a conflict of two predators, the sirens just lost the hunt.

Those imagery used represents further demonstration of defiance from odyssey one by one and now the sirens.... Just creating more problems for himself. Now the song connects to the ending of the irritation of Odysseus "kill them all" so those pics I think are there to show the ones he's defeating one by one

Well it’s probably the method that shook them. Because it would leave the sirens to die a slow and painful death. Maybe they thought he would order them to slit their throats, break their necks or anything of which would be a quick and easy kill, but instead he orders them to cut off their tails and throw their bodies back in the water and let them drown, the method was cruel and torturous even which is most likely why the crew was so shook.
@@SkyJustDontCare also if any of them have any brains whatsoever, they should know that since those things are part fish, they’re not gonna drown, which means there’s entirely the chance of them getting to have a heart-to-heart chat with Poseidon, who might be very interested in knowing the former location of his hated rival and where he’s going as well as that he did not learn his lesson from the last song where he was being told kill your opponents for the love of the gods you freaking idiots
I mean, if you sold the sirens, you could probably get multiple times they wait in gold with what their songs do and there are plenty of kings who would be corrupt enough to feed random peasants to them
The way the siren says "What?!" Almost makes me feel bad😭 I love how Poseidon and the cyclops were shown too!! I also love the idea that the crew is just like "😦" when Odysseus tells them to let the sirens drownn
You want a funfact about fish ? No, you don't, BUT still, here's one.
A fish is nothing but muscles and some thin bones. When I handled small sturgeon (around 1m long), they were like 20 kg and strong enough to escape even from a strong man if we were not focused enough.
Sirens are easily 1.7 to 2 m long, probably very heavy, like 70 to 100 kg, only muscles.
I like to think Odysseus men had the hardest time to kill them because of their strength.

I feel like Eurylochus would be happy about this decision because like he's been over protective since full speed ahead like Eurylochus would probably say
Eurylochus: "FINALLY HE'S NOT GIVING MERCY TO PEOPLE WHO TRY YO KILL US!"
But Eurylochus after scylla would be like
Eurylochus: "DUDE I KNOW WE AREN'T HAVING MERCY BUT WHY DID YOU SACRAFICE 6 OF OUR MEN?!"
I love how you draw expressions. You can see how the other sailors turn from cocky to horrified as they realize just how far Odysseus is willing to go.
The ending is so dark and has nice clear "oh shit" vibes. Really shows that even he being more ruthless then his men would prefer.
I love that you drew the crew staring at Odysseus at the line 'We won't take any more suffering from you', as a foreshadowing of Mutiny
The part where the crew is genuinely disturbed by Odysseus’ orders and look worriedly while cutting their tails is so good! Their captain is no longer him…
I can imagine Odysseus's crew getting lowkey terrified of him after he orders to kill the sirens(in a quite brutal way tbh)
I love how since 2:36 he's only showing 1 eye just when the crew sing "HE is a different beast now" instead of we.
The crew being in shock with that ruthless order goes perfectly with them singing about how Odysseus is even a monster in THEIR eyes.
Just perfect.
i like to think that the reason the crew looked so uneasy was bcz the order was a giant waste of resources, they are blunting their weapons, from cutting through scales and bone instead of just stabbing through the heart, also throwing away the likely edible tails
They keep the tails, my friend, they only throw the sirens. The tails are used to feed the men, remember they're very hungry at this point
"We are a different beast now, we are the ones who FEAST now"
I totally think that they ate those fish tails so it's not unnecessary cruelty to cut those tails, they need food.
It's just that Ody wasn't merciful enough to give them a swift death, they took what they needed and threw the rest.
i love the fact that they look sad for odysseus when it comes to the siren pretending to be his wife only for them to be borderline horrified at the order to cut their tails and let them drown in the sea
I think it's from this point forward that the crew adresses him as Odysseus instead of captain. Like, he is so fucked up that they can't see their captain no longer or something something,
Mostly because for them at least, in front of their crew isn't the captain, or the brother in arms or the king anymore, is Odysseus the monster
When I heard the crew simging 'oh' like they do in remember them after they stab Polyphemus in the eye, I just thought 'oh interesting, it's a response to a monster Odysseus/when a monster is hurt or killed', but your interpretation of the crew being horrified is really cool!

Oooooh I love how the crew itself looks nervous about the cutting off tails. Most versions have them with the same bloodlust. The pose at 1:53 looking like a successful anime character had me giggling
OUGHH I love how Odysseus smirks as he wipes away a tear and how the crew looks at the Sirens before and after the order is given. And just how shocked they are with it and ow uneasy one of them is when getting out a knife. The Siren crying and pleading made me so bad for them, like that's what they're supposed to do; lure people. And also I love how concerned Eurylochus looks and how you added the Cyclops and Poseidon to show how Odysseus will become ruthless to avoid that mistake again. Great animatic!

I love that subtle detail of the crew becoming afraid of Odysseus, brought a new perspective to the song. Also love the tears to show Ody's emotion and how much he misses Pen

in all seriousness i really love the framing, imagery, and emphasis in this one! flashing back to the cyclops is a stellar choice but i adore the rack focus(?) on “wife” at 2:34, it’s genuinely perfect. it’s one of a bunch of little things that really help sell the emotion! 👏

WOAHHHH I actually just noticed just through this version of this song that the second chorus switches from "WE are the man-made monsters" to "HE is the man-made monster." That is actually so clever and fits so perfectly with how you made the crew react to his command to cut off their tails and let them drown, further foreshadowing both how Odysseus is really becoming a monster, one who will go however far he has to to get home, even if it means it's alone, and that he is furthering himself from his crew. AUGH that's so good I love it.
I honestly would love to see an animatic of Odysseus in this song shown having them kill the baby sirens too to add to the horror of the crew. Maybe have some of them no being able to handle the gruesome act of having to cut off their tails with their mothers. Really hammering home “don’t spare ANYONE.” just like the infant.
I like how he manages to make it look like a boss move when he's wiping away his tears.
I love how you show the regret in their eyes. it realy shows the humanity in one's eyes when they regret havingt to kill others even when it's neccessary.
The absolute mania in his eyes at the "While you were so focused on turning my men into *snacks*" is genuinely the scariest thing in the animatic. He's enjoying this.

The amount of details in this is STUNNING. Having him pull back his hair to reveal his ears, putting on a cloak, cutting the net.
This is so good. You continue to impress.
Just realized, Odysseys probably could have just held on to some of them, set them up on stakes with torches, and used them to keep Scylla distracted while they rowed pass, and avoid the mutiny and everything would have probably gone much smoother. Not sure if that's intentional in the story, but it kinda does add to things. When he needed to be pragmatic, he decided to be merciful, which results in Poseidon's rage. When he was distracted by seeking immediate satisfaction for his frustrations he ends up missing a solution that would have saved him, and all he would have needed is to focus on being pragmatic rather then being angry.
I don't think that would have worked, because you know how Scylla can kind of read minds every time she harmonizes, plus sirens are creatures of the sea so I think she would have recognized them.
YIPPEEE finally a continuation of the Suffering animatic!! I loved your version of the sirens on top of the island but there weren't any Different Beast animatics that continued from that interpretation so I had to remove it from my playlist. I love this version though omg the crew being scared of Odysseus

I just wanna say this was very well done! I really liked the way you had the Cyclops and Poseidon flash backs in the final chorus! And also the way the reflection in the eye shifted from Odysseus to the severed tail! It was a very creative way of showing both the concern of the character as well as what in particular the character was looking at that caused those feelings

Oooh I love that the crew are clearly disturbed by odysseus' actions here, thats not an interpretation I've seen before! Also how you focus in on the severed tails and the torsos of the sirens drowning
Holy moly, Odysseus was extremely unsettling in this. Absolutely fantastic job, and i love seeing the crew and Eurylochus being so unsettled by their captain's new attitude and decisions.
I LOVE THIS!!the interpretation that his crew was into it at first, but the realized that their captain is slowly turning into a monster even more heartless than the ones they are slaying. It really foreshadows what will happen next and how their doubts and fears slowly grew towards him.

love the reactions of the crew, and LOVE the trail of blood behind him!! obviously this song is about how fully he's embraced becoming the monster, but watching this animatic made it click for me that he's already a man with a trail of bodies. i always associated that line with his return to ithaca and other events like thunder bringer, but it's already begun here. thanks for showing that, awesome work

Third, the way the other crew members look DISTURBED either by what they're doing or the fact it's coming from old "try to find a way no one ends up dead" odysseus i feel like this shows the trust amongst them breaking even more, (especially with that look from eurylochus) just fantastic

And then, when Odysseus arrived in Ithaca, he got the great reward of Poseidon being there already having been very interested in the fact that he learned the wrong lesson from the song, which was you’re supposed to kill your opponents, not torture them, not embarrass them and not cripple them as he proceeded to sync the entire island before feeding Telemechus to a shark feet first

I think my favorite part of this animatic is how present you make the rest of the crew, in other animatics I've seen they are there but here your show them being active in the hunting of the sirens, they are gleefully smiling while intimidating them, which makes sense because the lyrics in that part says "we are the man made monsters" which means they are acting as monsters as much as Odysseus, and is so cool how when he gives the order of killing them in such a cruel way even the crew seems disturbed and then the lyrics change to "he is the man made monster", showing that while the crew has reached a level of monstrous they are still under the levels their captain is willing to go to get home, which is shown later with Scylla, amazing detail!
I also liked how Eurylochus offers him support at the beginning of the song, even if the siren wasn't Penelope, hurting someone wearing her face must be disturbing for Odysseus.

Seeing all different version here on youtube so far tou the only one i saw who made it show that his crew first agree and sing along like "yes we where you guys to smart af" but the moment Ody give the order to cut there tail off and trow them back there faces chanced directly showing clear that quit cruelty punishment and even seeing that Ody become slowing like the Cyclus & Poseidon literly he turning to someone else but atill doing his order❤ the small details make so special. And i love to say i love your and everyoen else own viseion how you all animation the story on❤
It would be REALLY cathardic if the sirens saught revange for his ruthlessness, shattering the "ruthlessness is mercy on ourselves" ideology odysseus is going with
How, if they're dead? Hence the ruthless in ruthlessness.
If I remember correctly, in the end Poseidon is right, Ody has a happy ending and protects his family by becoming a monster to his enemies.
He murders all the guys trying to take his family by force, he takes their weapons and hide them before starting killing them one by one, he was the king and they were unarmed so he could've easily called his guards to capture them, but he didn't let any of them live. And that's part of the original legend.
I don't think the lesson is to be kind, but rather it's that sometimes you need to be able to become a monster to survive and protect your loved ones.
@@GianniLantigua We know if he killed all of them? There could be survivors since they can't check if they actually got every siren. And what's a better motivator for revange then seeing your companions being massacred

I might be reading too much into it but i find the way the crew and ody speak in this song interesting. The most obvious is the crew switching from "We are a different beast now" To "HE is a different beast now" Pushing the blame of killing the sirens all on their captain, but the more subtle one is when ody is talking with the siren at the start. He says "My real wife knows /I/ don't have a daughter" Rather then "we" dont have a daughter. Maybe im reading too much into it but i feel like it might be another way of showing how hardened and self intrested hes become. HES the one who has a child, rather then him and his wife having one together. maybe that was obvious but once i realized it i couldnt stop thinking about it lol
Those at the end were Eurylochus and the Siren meeting in the Underworld, where they became a couple since he very definitely made a stand to spare the sirens and she didn't forget 😢
So Suffering has a beefy Ody while this one has a Rogue Ody. Both are accurate descriptions of Odysseus

I adore this! I love how odysseous was both mad and sad at the Sirens actions, and how utterly ruthless he was. I love how at the beggining the crew, eyrylychus included were very pleased at what was going on, but how they slowly got a bit freaked out by their capitan, yet how they still did it. The expressions of the sirens were absolutely amazing, and the final scene with them fallin ginot the water was absolutely amazing. Thanky ou for making this.
Will say in this telling of the story Ody’s angry ruined a plan to get past Scylla. Simply take the sirens and use them as bait as they past.

I can understand killing the sirens since they do indiscriminately lure sailors to their deaths and eat them, but making them suffer like that is going a bit too far, especially since we don't know if sirens can drown.
