Odysseus from Just A Man killing himself is a twist I haven't seen yet. Ive seen the reverse of Odysseus killing his past self, but I like the implivation here that he was the monster before and had what it takes, so he's returing to that mindset.
It makes more sense. Inside he knew he was a monster but he thought he could stop to be one as he was going back home only to find out that his war is not over and ge and his men still needed the monster.

The fact that it is himself from TROY and not his "current self" to be the one to "kill" the "good" in him is so good!!! As that's when he considers himself "most monsterous".
There’s another well known channel who has been doing animatics for quite some time, they also just did Monster quite recently. In their interpretation they portrayed the same scene of Odysseus watching how his past self threw Hector’s baby. But the difference is that Odysseus kills that past self and once again throws the baby, embracing the monster that he needs to be. In this version it’s more like the past self reprimands the pacifist Odysseus that made them lose everything they had. And instead kills the weak one, in order to not lose what he still has waiting for him. Still becoming a monster but not entirely embracing it, it’s more like killing a part of himself in order to be the monster. I’ve been binging all the animatics I can and it’s amazing how the differences of how people imagine these scenes can change a lot of the nuance and symbolism. If this becomes a musical on a stage I would love to see which interpretation they choose for all major events.
I saw another very cool where old Odysseus is about to throw the baby and then it turns into a dark shadow offering his hand (where the baby was before) and old Odysseus watch the figure and stroke his hand and absorb it inside him. I think is another cool interpretation.

I loved the transiton from the blue of the Underworld to the oranges and red of Troy burning right before he goes up the stairs. To me it really hammered home that a part of Odysseus really did die and that soul is staying in the Underworld where it belongs.
I love that the Ody we follow in the starts gets tossed off the wall, and the 'monster' - the one who threw the baby takes over! A man returns home, but it's no longer him!

What I really like about this animatic is, unlike other animatics, the scenes are directed in a way that you might see in an actual animated movie or tv show. A lot of other animatics don't get this right
Omg having Odysseus’s old self kill his new self is such genius because one major challenge of EPIC’s themes and main character arc is that fact that the general in war, Odysseus, is certainly not naive or soft, and this choice (especially the choice of representing it with his helmet) layers the meaning that he was separating his ruthless actions as choices made by a soldier and so when the war is over he goes back to kindness lest he becomes a monster, and this song then marks his decision to be that ruthless soldier all the time, to kill and sacrifice even not in war, even if that makes him a monster
I have to say I'm honestly so glad for Epic: the musical's existence, because we get to experience art pieces and animations from so many different artists and their perspective and spin on the story.
This song is one of my favorites of the entire musical, and your portrayal of it is absolutely stunning. His past self killing his present weakness is genius. Absolutely amazing! I love the careful use of colors depending on the scene and oh my gosh Circe's is stunning and Poseidon look epic! Cyclops scene was definitely filled with the level of brutality you'd imagine but lord did it it harder when you get to see the Polities last moments. Odysseus literally fighting himself over what he has to become to make it home with him as he is now and him when he dropped the infant off the wall felt like such a good portrayal of his internal conflict. This is one of my favorite songs and this just feels like such a beautiful representation of it! Amazing job!

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. When "just a man" odysseus took over singing it absolutely killed me. Everything from that to the end was just PERFECT. I love how it's this quiet moment of Odysseus reflecting to himself, but it was still so dynamic with all the flashbacks, and the way you depicted him flipping back and forth between his present and past selves while walking to the boat? Just flawless, absolutely flawless

The shift in perspective was done remarkably well. Watching a confused self-doubting Odysseus venture through his memories was a great way to show him reflect on what makes a monster. And shifting perspective from that doubtful version of him, to the murderous monster, and then to the true Odysseus was fantastic.
There was no reason you had to go out there and make one of the best Epic Animatics, but here we go. Just the creative ideas and symbolism just elevate this piece. I also just got to say you make me absolutely wince at 1:12 like ouch it makes Polites' death feel so painful. Another big compliment I have to give is that it feels like you aren't shaking the screen as much as in previous animatics, I really appreciate that.

1:31 idk why but I just really like how Poseidon is depicted grabbing the water. Poseidon is the god of the sea so it only makes sense for him to be able to manipulate water with such ease. This is so much more creative than moving water via some invisible force

I love his past pushing his current self off the wall because it makes sense. He started out like that cause that is how athena taught him but after polites death you can see him change to become softer to keep his friend alive so now he is coming back to being a monster
I know that's not true for Epic's version but Monster has some grim comedy to it when you keep in mind that, the original Odysseus had the idea to throw Astyanax off the wall all by himself (and then Neptolemus used the b0dy as a human shield/weapon but let's not talk about THAT)

Okay but I love Odysseus' past self being fucking enraged at his current self for losing everything they had and fucking killing him for it to return to his rightful place. As it should have been all along and had it been everyone would have more than likely survived.
What kinda sucks is how following Polites' ideology of "greeting the world with open arms" basically got all his men and his mother killed. Along with losing Athena as his mentor.
