WOW! This is my kind of stuff. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Mastodon song before. Never even gave them a chance because they’re metal. I am going to have to go listen to their other song now and see if I have the same reaction. I kept skipping it when going through the backlog videos. His (their?) voice was great. This song is probably about as deep into metal as I can go before it starts to turn me off but I really liked this one.

Yeah their later stuff is more metal/rock, but completely unique. They are close to “stoner rock” but I think but their own unique style. They are worth your time especially their last 4 albums if you are more into this sound.

i love Mastodon! Saw them this year with Lorna Shore and Gojira. I'd like to see you do one from their most recent album, Hushed and Grim. Maybe More Than I Could Chew, or Teardrinker. Teardrinker has a cool bass solo.

I might be 70, nut Ive always loved "good" Metal....great musicianship, great "chemistry", as Ryan said. I like all different genre's, styles of music: Zeppelin, through Nirvana', and much in-between (not much "disco"). But this Mastodon definely has got the "sound" and feel of the Metal I love!

This album is fantastic. This one and OMATS don’t seem to get the recognition they deserve imo. Btw the video for this song rocks.
As far as suggestions: jaguar god (off same album), chimes at midnight, mortal soil, stargasm, the beast, tread lightly, teardrinker, toe to toes, hearts alive, sparrow….I mean they have a lot of good songs those are just some of mine.

Kewl.........very kewl DEFINITELY fire 🖤.........think about Einar Selvik who did many of the songs for the series "Vikings" - he uses traditional Viking-style instruments and sings in Old Norse. Very, very excellent.

I agree with Ryan that the melodies in the vocals are what help distinguish this song and make it quite listenable to viewers. I'm not a current follower of this genre, as Nick seems to be, but what I've heard from this band and others like "Avenge Sevenfold" are helping to keep what I refer as "hard rock" (or what others may see as "metal") going in a wasteland of pre-packaged top 40 pop performers that are all just variations off each other. In the intro, Nick mentioned the significant themes addressed in this song's lyrics. Of course, that is not rare in "hard rock"/"heavy metal." The above link is to the well known 1982 song "Run To The Hills" by Iron Maiden. What few may understand, but might see by looking at the lyrics, is that the song's main theme is European intervention in "the New World" and what that normally meant for the indigenous people (who may be referred to as Native Americans in the United States). So, "hard rock" & "metal," bringing a bit more to the table than just head banging! 😂

I don’t agree with you guys, now there really is little good music, there is modern music, but there are no hits, few people listen to it, and this did not start today or yesterday, but somewhere after 1992, during this period the music rapidly declined, I’m not against modern music, but there’s essentially nothing; if it existed, we would hear it. Regarding the group Mastodon, a mystical song, dark fog, gloom, dark house, sometimes I listen to this, but I’m not always in the mood for such music.

Both agree and disagree, there are few if any really great bands like in the 60s/70s/80s/90s and the good old style seems to have mostly disappeared. But there are some good bands out there, depending on your taste, but music does not have the same pull these days as it had some decades ago. One large problem i believe is discoverability, how do new musicians get noticed? Hardly anyone listen to the radio and it only plays old hits or 'pop' music so there is no real hope there. And how often do you see music advertisements? The only ways really are trying to get spots in concerts with larger bands, or put stuff on the internet and pray you get noticed.

@@mr.cuddles1805 An alternative to radio is the Internet, the main thing is talented musicians and ideas, if they exist, popularity will always come, this is the problem with today's music

Pretty bullshit opinion honestly. Just because mainstream music isnt what it once was on the radio doesnt mean theres no good music. Theres tons, you just gotta find it. UA-cam makes it easy honestly you just need to know how to work the algorithm.
