Man just throw a dart at their discography list, you won’t be disappointed. More Than I Could Chew, Hearts Alive, Tread Lightly, Match of the Fire Ants. Have at it man, these guys are fantastic.
My favorite band. All their albums are a beautiful new ride.
thumbs up for more than I could chew
Mastodon has been one of the most important bands of the last 20 years, and are widely considered pioneers of CHOPPY CHUNKS WITH CRISPY BITS.
Diamond in the Witch House is one of my favourites. But their whole discography is so versatile and still all songs sound like Mastodon.
This is probably one of my favorite songs ever written, I'm so glad you got to it!
love Mastodon , the only 4 pieces band i know with 3 vocalists !!! ( including the drummer who does the "clean" vocals ) - check out "more than i could chew" , or their older stuff (much heavier) like "mother puncher" , "blood & thunder" , "hearts alive" , "the last baron" ,to name a few
Roots remain and More than I could chew are two of my favorite's! Amazing Band!!
Brents solo at the end is pure guitar porn! One of the best solos of all time! 👌
Agree 100% Brent's finest solo or solo from The Crux
Toe to Toes (in studio) is incredible. You get a behind the scenes look of them putting the song together
More than I could chew, so beautiful and hypnotic!!!
This a rabbit hole worth diving into! 😆🤘
Loved this reaction. I had my moment when I just played this song over and over. Mastodon is great, been a fan since Blood and Thunder.
I just saw Mastodon live on Saturday night.. I knew a few of their songs because I love metal, but never got attached.
Seeing them live, they were RELENTLESS. After every single song on their set list, I had a one word reaction..fuck. Or a couple times, a two word reaction.. the fuck. They were amazing. Now I’m diving in.
Yup, that happens.
Kinda like Opeth, Mastodon (who have toured with them a few times) certainly grew over the years. Earlier, the CHOPPIER, and the more recent, the PROGGIER.
Yepeee ! Dude, I'm so happy you liked it that much. This song is so unbelievable imo. 😀
There are 3 singers in the band. I so much love how they manage to always use the right one at the right moment.
The bass player has the rough voice, the guitar player has the most nasal voice and the drummer has the most melodic one.
If you want to try another song, I suggest :
For the early rough days : Blood and Thunder
For the prog extravaganza : The Last Baron
For the more recent work, I love all the Emperor of sand album and I'll suggest Roots Remain for you to listen.
I'm also under the spell of Sickle and Peace from their very last album, Hushed and Grim.
Thanks again, man... you made me so happy ! Peace !
That's awesome man! Glad I checked this out and thanks for further recommendations will be sure to check them out!
It was Pushing the Tides, Teardrinker, and Pain with an Anchor that drew me into Hushed and Grim.
That's the best way to enjoy Mastodon. With your favorite herbal, or organic addition to your meal, then add headphones, and release. Chef's kiss.
Starting a very good rabbit hole... And started with a great song 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 their last album is a masterpiece with a great message about death
I love this song a lot...one of my fave Mastadon tracks
Brent knows how to hit them notes that are just soul touching.
My absolute favorite song is steam breather off the same album you just listened to. Saw them together with Gojira live in April! Amazing show. Blood and Thunder is one of their other more famous tracks and is quite crunchy
Nice, you found Mastodon. Their music style has a very wide style. Their first two albums are absolute mental metal bangers. Later they changed to more to melodic rock sound, but they never dissapoint.
I'd say their first 3 albums are metal bangers. Blood Mountain has more moments of melody than Leviathan but is still right up in your face most of the time. Crack the Skye is when the spacey prog and straightforward rock really started showing up more.
As others have said, you should check out their song "Blood and Thunder" if you want choppy & chunky.
One of the best guitar solos ever. Check out Hearts Alive off their album Leviathan for another one
This band is epic, is was really cool seeing you jam to them! Some others to check out: Ember City, More than I can Chew, Thread Lightly, Goobers of Dreggs, Aunt Lisa, High Road...all of there shit is top notch!
Just keep listen to Mastodon, life's so much better. This one's my favourite of the band. When i see reactors listening to Mastodon for the first time, I get so jealous. I remeber my journey discovering Mastodon. I was shocked album after album,
Let's go 🔥 I love this song 🙌🏻
Welcome to the awesome world of Mastodon!
Hard to believe this is the same band that wrote Cut You With a Linoleum Knife
Man, you can't get wrong with Mastodon. Arguably the best discography in metal for the past two decades.
An I feel like _Emperor of Sand_ is such an underrated album. It's a slow burner, but once you get into it, oh boy... it's got banger after banger, great melody after great melody, hooks after hooks. Starting with the Grammy winner _Sultan's Curse_ and finishing with the climax that is _Jaguar God,_ the album as whole is absolutely great, especially when you understand the concept behind its lyrics.
This is an excellent choice for a first song, since you can hear all three of the vocalists singing (Brent on the initial soft part, then Brann on the menacing middle section, finishing with Troy on the more aggressive sections) and that magnificent solo by Brent Hinds, who's my favorite guitar soloist for some time now.
If you like non-conventional structured songs like this one, my next suggestions are _Hearts Alive, Sleeping Giant, The Czar, The Last Baron, Diamond in the Witch House,_ the aforementioned _Sultan's Curse, More Than I Could Chew_ and _Gigantium._ (chronological order, but no order or preference here)
edit: just noticed you already reacted to _The Last Baron_
Mastodon have more chops than a pig farm butchers, you'll love their back catalogue!
Welcome to Mastodon my friend!!
Amazing song by an incredible band! Jaguar God always gives me goosebumps, especially when the guitar solo kicks in at the end. They use three different vocalists from the band in this song and they (sadly) have NEVER played it live. I'm taking my wife and ten year old son to see Mastodon and Gojira tomorrow night! Mastodon is my son's favorite band so it should be an unforgettable evening. 🤘🏼🖤
i'm not a huge mastodon fan but i do love a couple of their songs, including Sultans Curse. Its off this same album. The chorus is so melodic and is sung by the drummer Brann Dailor, super talented guy. Its worth a listen
I'm on the journey with you on this one. Never listened to them before, but this was way cool.
Emperor of Sand is such a great album.
I love their use of disharmony.
Another rabbit hole band. many songs, many albums. Try IRON TUSK, BLACK TONGUE, CRYSTAL SKULLS, on and on. can’t go wrong
Just found your channel, and your reaction to this song was exactly like mine. Can't wait to dig into your content further. Hope to see MUCH more Mastodon! Criminally underrated band!
Ooh.
Mastodon!
I'd suggest listening to the album 'Leviathan' in whole from start to finish.
It's more toward their heavier side without getting as sludgy, but keeping things prog with an album based very loosely off of the book Moby Dick.
It's as heavy as a whale, and relentless like the waves they swim within.
Hey Sev if you want more proggy and/or choppy Mastodon I have some suggestions: Crack The Skye, Roots Remain(it's a bit mellow like Jaguar God but the vocals are awesome), and Ghost of Karelia.
You should check out their Crack The Skye album. The song The Czar is one of their best, but that whole album is incredible, it’s like if Pink Floyd was much heavier.
You gotta listen to Blood and Thunder by this band, it's one of the choppiest and chunkiest songs I know. I've seen Mastodon in concert twice and they're incredible live. Dive deeper!
Sepultura, Soulfly, Hatebreed, Death, Korn (earlier stuff), Megadeth, Pantera, Behemoth ..
Mastodon is such a talented band that even with one song that at my first listen i was like meh; i realized how good it was when i saw them live. Teardrinker is one of the songs that the drummer (Brann Dailor) signs throughout the song. Yes because in Mastodon, on top of being great at what they are playing, every members of the band make vocals.
Now we're cooking with gas... Try "The Czar" and "Hearts Alive" from them to get a grasp of other albuns...
Hey Bro, like many others I’ve also been obsessed with this band but only got into them this past year. Next up I suggest checking out The Last Baron or The Czar from Crack the Skye. Nothing can prepare you for these sonic feasts.... 🤘🏼🇦🇺🤘🏼
Megalodon by them is sick as well as tons of others!
Okay, so now you've checked out every one one of my top five bands other than the insane French weirdness that is Igorrr (I'd recommend either Cheval or Houmous personally); this Mastodon song though is one of just a few they have that is not only epic but has also nearly brought me to tears and probably will if I ever hear it live... the meaning behind it has a large part to do with that though. This album is in second place of theirs for me and Crack The Skye is number one (The Last Baron is my favourite song of theirs which closes that album and I'd recommend either that or the only song I've heard played live off of it The Czar), both are very proggy but they're also both concept albums which lean heavily into somewhat abstract conceptual aspects; they cover some extremely heavy topics for their core concepts as well though... this album is about cancer because they've had many people close to them go through it including their manager Nick John (also Gojira's manager) who died of pancreatic cancer and they dedicated not only their cover of Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven to him (his favourite song) but also a whole subsequent album. Crack The Skye is about suicide, and it's specifically spelled Skye instead of Sky because that was someone's name; their drummer Brann Dailor's sister Skye killed herself at fourteen years old and if I recall correctly Brann was her younger sibling but I do know they were both teenagers at the time... it makes the title track of that album so heavy both musically and emotionally especially with the additional vocals done by Neurosis' vocalist Scott Kelly.
The passing of Skye Dailor is just part of the themes from _Crack the Skye._ It's got a lot to do with Brent's time in a coma, as well.
Mastodon is amazing.
i think the mastodon song you are looking for is called capillarian crest. it got a lot of time changes
Many tasty layers to this Mastodon cake. Try another slice. I recommend anything from the Crack the Skye Album.
Mastodon is underrated. They're nothing like Tool but you're going to get crazy drumming and tempo changes. You already stepped into one that's not for beginners. I know you have a UA-cam channel and you might do things a certain way but you need to listen to their album Crack the Skye. It needs to be listened from start to finish in order. If you can't do that, listen to the song The Czar: I. Usurper - II. Escape - III. Martyr - IV. Spiral from that album.
Crack the Skye is an absolute masterpiece
@@gofdtown12 truth
It’s the choppy chunky truth.
If your after more mastodon, then all of them i highly reccomend, one of the only bands ive ever heard where there literraly is no bad songs imho, been a constant in my life for the last 15years. so many good songs. everyone usually starts with blood and thunder. your welcome :P
A couple other great mastodon songs to check out: Oblivion, Blood and Thunder. You really can't go wrong with anything in their catalog.
Mastodon is one of my favorite bands, each album has its own feel and story. Would definitely recommend stuff from The Hunter, best album by them by far.
It's nice to see TH getting some love here, since it's usually their most overlooked album.
My recommendations: Hearts Alive, Seabeast, Ol'e Nessie, The Last Baron, The Czar, The Sparrow, The Hunter, Roots Remains, Steambreather, Megalodon, Tread Lightly, More Than I Could Chew, Naked Burn, Fallen Torches, Oblivion, Andromeda, Hunters of the Sky, This Mortal Soil, Asleep in the Deep, Ember City, Eyes of the Serpents and Gobblers of Dregs.
Mastodon the Last baron Change lives brother
Awesome reaction mastodon is a great band that doesn’t get the love they deserve however I’ve heard you talk about your love for choppiness and mastodon has plenty of those types of songs in their catalog that you should definitely check out sometime could I also point you in the direction of a band called Hatebreed their middle name is choppey they eat choppey for breakfast you should give them a try sometime
There's a full library full of Mastodon, but many people start with 'Oblivion'; I particularly love 'Black Tongue'. I mean, I love the whole discography, but those were two off the top of my head. I'd save the last album for later on though, it's not bad, but not my necessarily there pinnacle work in my opinion, but they're an ever evolving band though so you can't blame them for changing.
Mastadon 4 THE WIN
Yoooo check out their entire EP - Cold Dark Place, beautiful journey.
If you want a more rough aggressive version of this band you should try their earlier work. Personally I like all different sides to this band. Also this song rocks, love it.
Yoo, I really want to see your reaction to Blood and Thunder by Mastodon, it completely sold the band for me, loved it ever since I first heard that masterpiece.
YESSS the Don is up there with Tool for me. Check out the albums Leviathan or Crack the Skye. They are widely considered their top 2
There are a few songs of mastodon that you must react: The czar, last baron, teardrinker, motherload, gigantium, high road
Oh mate! Enjoy the Mastodon worm hole. ❤
CRACK THE SKYE
The entire album is great but I love the title track!
if you like the chop! Mastodon got you covered. chop on chop on chop. huge discography to sift thru
blood and thunder would be a good one to get you lined up w/ their heavier stuff before they really dove into their progressive rock transition
MASTODON _ MOTHER PUNCHER or MARCH OF THE FIRE ANTS - For MEGA CHOPINESS
These guys are legends. Theyre chunky and choppy as hell, with a lot of Prog in it. Best recs include
Hearts Alive
More Then I Could Chew
Divinations
The Wolf is Loose
Seabeast
Ugh, you get it. Bladecatcher was the track that got me obsessed with this band. Try it out when you get the chance. Choppy AF.
Gotta check it out!! 🤘
Blood Mountain which that song is on is their best imo. Absolute cracker from beginning to end.
🤟🔥🤟
You’ve gotta do roots remain from this same album man, best track on the album and one of their best ever imo, killer riffs, amazing emotional lyrics, fire drums, great vocals and maybe Brent’s best solo ever that is loaded with emotion.
