"Are you here to fish or cut bait?" Are you gonna spend all day talking and getting ready or are we actually going to fish? Heard it all my fishing life.
Cut bait (pack'er in) or fish. Never considered it might mean cutting up the bait and eating it, but I guess it can be interpreted both ways. No doubt, if I spent enough time out on the ice with no fish, I would definitely opted for your definition.
"We arent getting this hook back that is deep inside this fish.... that we are about to hack into pieces. If only we had a way to get the hook back". Just gotta give another Chris a hard time!
at least butter is natural and so are herbs so its ok, its not a wilderness challenge i mean if its all natural by that theory they can't even bring wire, go twine some reeds and make a makeshift fishing line i guess

So, I'm listen while working on a project. Bearded starts talking about ball toner and I hear "oooh yeah, that's the stuff". I've watched many cringe moments on UA-cam. I've never been afraid to look at my phone before.
Full Stop ! I see other Canuks putting wood under their stoves, to keep them from sinking down in the snow. Justa thought ... Awesome video, nothing better than fresh fish on the ice. I wish I could still get out and do what you do . Thank You for sharing your video, and bringing us along.
I've gone through the ice twice. Both times, I was following along behind someone who was a lot smaller than me and he just shot across, so I figured I could also. Thankfully, I was very fit at those times and was able to raise myself out and beat feet back to a source of warmth before frostbite set in. I now check ice, no matter who else is with me going out and I don't go out on less than 6" of ice if there's snow or 4" solid ice without any snow and I carry a 5 foot walking stick that I can use as a spreader to pull myself up, if I were to fall through some rotten ice. It's definitely a scarey situation.
These are small burbot. Burbot can actually get really big. They are delicious when you boil them and dip them in butter. Another fun fact: some people also call them eelpout or even lingcod.
I use those foam mats that fit together in my pop up with my wood stove and usually don’t have any slush or water issues most of the time you can be hanging out in your socks the floor stays so dry.
That moment you need a bildge pump for your tent LOL. Been there while ice fishing in my pop up shelter. I went to fire a fish back down the hole and there was enough water on the floor for it to turn around and swim around the floor and then back down the hole it went. It was funny.
Watching you video again, what I do on ice I just cut 2 holes with the auger close together about 1 foot deep under the stove for the water to sit in there and I scoop it out once in a while, avoids having a puddle 👍🏼
Lol, that's a common saying, cut bait or fish! I'm 52 and have always fished, but me and a buddy go nighttime bullhead fishing and we use raw chicken livers as bait. It we don't get any fish, we cook the livers on a stick over the campfire. Eat bait or fish! 🐟🎣😊
Been watching for a while now and love the channel. Had an idea for a challenge. What would you do if you popped to the shops and had an accident and needed to survive?
We tried a few times. Our winter stuff is all light, but all bulky...we really needed some snow shoes to make a more even track for the sleds. The slush didn't help either.
I’m hooked and lost just as many lol omg 😳 the 911 video, so glad everyone involved was ok, very hard hitting. Don’t know how you could watch that and keep on fishing lol Respect!!!
You are a legend!Everytime I watch your videos,I learn something new!Yeah fish soup is one of my favorite.I grew up from small Pacific Island and fish is our main good. Thanks for making and sharing the videos!❤
It’s a very long drive, but come on down to the western US states. Make a nice family trip out of it! Time it right and you can hook up with plenty of people that’ll put you on a lot of different fish! And if you come down even further, you can end your trip fishing for stripers in the Colorado river!
Another awesome survival challenge this one was different in a couple ways and I really enjoyed that. Another video well done, keep up the great content Chris!
I put down a couple spruce poles and bring a piece of tin to put on it and set the stove up on that. You still get a puddle but the poles span across it and the tin reflects the heat to slow it down.
Thank you for these videos man. Took some time off from everything, major life events. End of some things, and the start of something I think will last forever. But the woods and videos like this have always been there, my go to, my fall back. Survival is in our blood and nothing can change that. Enjoy the northern forests and lakes man, spring is here in Kansas. Looking forward to trees budding and spending a summer on the water. And I'm getting a deer down this fall, with a partner to provide for keeping me warm in the stand.
Dude, that nose-hair clipper doesn't have a vacuum right? So you just clipped your nose hairs and then sniffed in all of the cut hairs! Wow, a real man!!
This is the second vid ive seen with adam. He def seems like a cool dude to try and survive with so hopefully there are or will be more vids with you and him. And man, that underwater camera is so cool.
NICE! I literally just did a 48 hour ice fishing survival challenge too and actually got the video dropping tonight haha, also were getting on Burbots and our first time catching and eating them too!! Love it!!
why does wooded beardsman do the best camping videos ??? (his personality and etc just make the video satisfying and enjoyable!!!) keep up the great work
Hey Chris, the way I have always heard that is backwards of the way you said it. "Either fish or cut bait." Sometimes followed by "or get out of the way". Like, "Either lead, follow or get out of the way."
I’d love to see you wearing old style clothes during one of these winter survival challenges, moccasins, warm handmade leather clothing, big bear pelt draped over you for warmth, if at all feasible that would be pre awesome.
So, not to sound insane but, could you build a sled large enough to set up the tent on? A dry floor sounds better than slush, and you'd have a wider sled for gear. You could use PVC pipe for it so it's light but you'd have to anchor it good
@@randysparks1271 Yes, but even then we're fully loaded. If we had a 3rd they wouldn't fit inside. I think the trick is to get the stove insulated somehow, or just move every day.
Another great video brother. No limit on burbat in my neck of the woods. Can catch 15-30 a night jigging cut bait with green mini cem lights. Fullstop!
Ugh...grab them....don't pull them out.....your depending on your line to hold.......once you see the head grab it in the hole .............. I love your videos 🤟
This is a good eating fish. Really taste like cod imo. Eazy to catch in winter time but harder in summer. Not many Swedish folks eat it now days but its yummy.
it's probably obvious but a couple of logs under the stove might help with that melting slush? maybe a layer of fresh branches and leaves under the logs for extra insulation?

Never been a fan of trimming my nose hair... the hot snot just runs out in the cold. But the ball butter sounds like a win.
Brrrrrrrr lads , enjoyed 💯👍

Trying to catch wild butter is so hard. That animal is so elusive and even if you get your hands on it, seems to just slip away every time.

Beardsman: *Shaves nose hairs*
*HUGE inhale*
Me: Um, you're supposed to EXHALE after shaving nose hairs, but you do you, player.
Cuts nose hairs, inhales intensely through the nose before rightfully exhaling to get the hair out first Haha

Great video. True and down to earth survivalist and that fish stew was epic but I think I would try to find some wild onion and garlic though.
Good catch and cook video Chris. Now I'm headed over to watch One Wildcrafter.

1:12:30 "And here we see the Beardsman undergoing photosynthesis to account for lost energy"
Maybe putting the stove legs on logs would help keep the melt under it down a bit. Some of your firewood pieces looked big enough.
We tried that in the past with limited results. Maybe the entire thing needs some kind of box to sit on which is insulated.
If your sled keeps tipping over that means you got the heavy stuff on top unload reload it with your heavy stuff at the bottom and back end.
We tried a few times. Our winter stuff is all light, but all bulky...we really needed some snow shoes to make a more even track for the sleds. The slush didn't help either.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman or a wider sled just don't fill it, in The Wider slid could also act as a roof or a wall for a shelter.
