We’ve had our Z Grill ZPG-450A pellet grill for a little over two weeks. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3c8DmtYRYEKYTiR4g7y6Yc2amUPVs_3X It was relatively easy to put together, with 2 of us. (friend and I)The grill seems well built and heavy duty. I followed the start-up directions, and then cooked chicken on it that evening. We’ve since cooked burgers, pork chops, meat loaf, and steak on the Z Grill and love it. I’ve used a hardwood mix (per my Son-in-Laws recommendation) and we are very happy. Like cooking in an outside oven with a nice smoky taste. This is a perfect size for the two of us, and would probably work fine for a small family also. All the things we have cooked have kept their moisture, and remained juicy. No burning on one side!My next challenge will be a brisket. We highly recommend the Z Grill 450A, so far. Hopefully they did get whatever “bugs” fixed from previous models (per the description on Amazon). I’ll update our review after a few months.
Every single negative comment I’ve read so far clearly tells me these guys don’t own a Traeger just wish they did. Good Idea with the bottom tray man gives it Character. Think I might just go find me a pallet now and make me one.
Nice grill dude! Love the idea for the bottom shelf! Not a big fan of modding for that specific light, there has to be a better light & better way for it, but if you like it and it works for you, that’s what matters! I just can’t see scarring the grill permanently for something that down the road may become obsolete due to a better find or idea. But I’m sure that the metal bar could come in handy for other things! Again a very nice set up, not criticizing, if it is something that’s perfect for you then it is perfect! Love your set up!
Thanks for the comment and I completely agree. That’s why I glued that piece of metal in there so I can remove it. I also put a felt pad on the bottom of the light so it wouldn’t scratch the stainless. I’m totally with you not ideal and if you come up with anything better please let me know. The grill is about to go into an outdoor gazebo which will have an overhead light so from that point on probably no attached light needed. Anyway thank you very much for the comments
@@bobbygfl OK I gotcha! Good deal! Thanks again for sharing your ideas absolutely genius and classy at the same time! My wife and I completely agreed that your grill looks like some sort of special edition with the wood shelf! If I can find something similar I would certainly make that mod, But even if I don’t it lends to the fact that there are probably hundreds of other things like these if we would just open our minds!
@@bobbygfl Something I thought you might find useful... if you go to the local pet store they have those waterproof bins for dog food they are great for keeping your pellets nice and dry and will prevent wood roaches from moving in at the same time.
Love the bottom shelf trick!!! As for the light, I use the head lamp I use for camping. I already have it in the house. I just have to tolerate the commentary from the peanut gallery :)
I would recomend a lid of some sort for the stored pellets try to keep them air tight. Humidity deteriorates them quite fast. Even stored in the bags. Thanks for some new ideas!
M H That’s a really good point that’s a really good point. Especially in Florida where it’s like a sauna all the time. I really only keep enough pellets in there to refill the hopper I’m scared they’re going to catch on fire. I did not indicate that in this video but they do actually get pretty hot down there. Thanks for the comment!
All great ideas. Only thing for me is I’d like to keep my pellets in a bucket sealed with a lid. Especially outdoors. But if you grill everyday I can see why you’d leave it so close by so you can have a quick access to it.
Thanks some cool ideas!! I want- a bottom shelf too i have 885 but could not find a shower mat long enough i will probably just build my own saw someone made one out of ceder and rhat bacon hanger what great idea!! Thanks bud
home depot makes an awesome bucket head wet/dry vac its awesome for sucking the pellets out when you wanna change pellet flavors. also really good to have a separate one to clean the ash. added bonus you can store the pellets in the buckets and label them what flavor is in it
I believe the Ironwood series has a pellet trap door on the back that you can open and dump your pellets. I have an older Traeger Jr. Elite and I use your recommended method to change out the pellets.
@@tomevans5458 yeah it has a trap door but then you have to use something to funnel the pellets toward the trap door. plus you still have a bunch of pellets deeper under the grate that you cant reach and your wasting if thats not the flavor your wanting
@@bobbygfl yes I just did a hack I found on another YT video here...ua-cam.com/video/CcqY35JeGAw/v-deo.html its a hook and a chain to also hold the bucket in place incase it falls off the hook on the Traeger.
Yes. I use it every time. There’s less suction than you’d expect but it gets the dust out and holds all of in the vac. Also it performs the same for at least 20 or so cleans. No less suction over time. And no dust makes it through the filter. I’d 100% buy it again.
I ended up buying the same one you have. I was between Traeger and Yoder. I went with Traeger simply because ace is in my town. And also, I think all these pellet grills have one thing in common….They all burn pellets. All these comparisons about which “brand” is better.
@@allenm5934 you’ll be thrilled! I did learn one thing about pellets over the years the Traeger pellets produce less dust while cooking than other brands. I was buying green mountain pellets and I was getting basically soot on top of my food. Switched back to Traeger pellets fixed problem.
I hate trolls. They just suck. I always like to see what kind of additions people do to make things better for themselves. Good job. If you have more put out another video.
Albert Villa I would assume they are all made a little bit different. It took me at least two trips back to the saw to get it perfect. The measurement for mine though is 22 and 1/16 inches.
Dennis Pilipuf thanks! I got it from amazon. It’s a bamboo bath mat, It appears they are out of the natural one but this is the size I ordered in black. You'd think that they'd put a light on the inside of the lid. Hell for the amount of money they should've put a camera on the inside of the damn thing.
Great ideas! And hacks on storing the unused grates? No clue why the ironwood has the grate hooks on the back but the timberline doesn’t.
Thanks!

Where did you get that stainless front shelf? Love it! Would like to get one for my 650
It is part of the traeger timberline 1300
That came with it.
Tbh I didn’t notice the bamboo shelf until you pointed it out because it just looked like it belonged there.
Nice! Thanks.
Can I recommend putting bungees around the legs. I keep my pellets in sealed buckets to keep foreign material/mold/mildew/water out of my pellets.

My GMG Daniel Boone has a bad ass shelf for the front of it, really nice for transferring the food

Great idea with the shelf 👌 so with a year update has the bucket caught fire?
I don’t keep it there anymore. I really feel that it would if completely full. Thanks!
Great Mods on the Timberline!!!

you could also add some hooks to the back of your grill to hang your grilling grates from. I see them sitting on the ground behind the grill
