One of the most underated gangster's movies out there, this film is perfect from start to end & this is one of my favorite scenes love how the tension rises here...
people tend to recognize Gary Oldman in movies such as The Professional, Batman or Harry Potter..but its movies like State of Grace,Chattahoochee, Prick up your Ears,Sid and Nancy ,Immortal Beloved, JFK. that show his true gifted talent
brillian. just superb acting. three different dimensions of acting done by harris, penn and oldman in one scene. i think this scene should be part of acting classes in schools. just top notch.
Sean Penn was amazing!!! He is a genius, especially in this movie. I love they way Gary and Sean argue- like an old married couple "He's fuckin' retarded- nothing personal Richard, you're stupid." lol :)
I always think on how much pre-cell phone era phone scenes were more dramatic. lol Its changes the dynamics of suspense and drama in mystery/cops&robbers/horror movies nowdays when like everyone has a portable phone in their hand or carrying with them.
excellent movie. i don't know why people says "good movie but not a masterpiece like the godfather or goodfellas". seems like everytime people watch a gangster movie is expecting something like the godfather or goodfellas, there a lot of other mafia films like once upon a time in america, state of grace, or carlito's way, that are masterpieces, and are very, very different from the godfather and goodfellas.
I'm a big Penn fan but Oldman pretty much wiped the floor with Terry Moon's face. Fucking masterpiece gangster 90's film. Only thing that tops this one is Carlito's Way with Pacino. But this one comes very very very close.
Spoiler alert: Penn's character was stalling. He was an undercover cop and he didn't want a bloodbath on his hands since Oldman's character, who was his childhood friend, was a hot head who was highly strung most of the time, so he tended to be trigger happy.
Oh I realize this is probably downloaded 20 years ago but thank God oh thank God I've been looking everywhere for this I mean it's not the entire scene but I'll settle for it as long as I've been looking for it good job thank you
It doesn't the whole scene know you're missing some of the funniest parts like when they asked the stupid guy first he says what did he say and then the dumb guy goes who and then Jackie completely insane yells Frankie. Then the guy says I didn't hear him and that indecision goes on longer and longer this is unfortunately a cut down version however least I found part of it
you fuckers are arguing about how "Hot" one actor is then the other.....why don you just admire this scene? I mean to see both of them on screen going at it back and forth....this one of the best collaborations ever. Two of favorite actors on one screen rying to out act the other....fucking incredible. Definatly in my top ten scenes of all time I like them both equaly.
ed Harris was perfect for that role and gary oldman was crazy. think sean penn should of been played by someone else but i guess they picked him because hes a cop
Based on The Westies. They were seconds away from blowing the entire Mafia Hierarchy to bits including John Gotti. God knows what would have happened afters. The Italians always beat the Irish cause they used them against each other.
Mark Ramsey /// not the entire mafia - they were about to blow away Paul Castellano (Gambino boss) and a couple of key figures of the Gambino's (most likely Thomas Bilotti and Frank De Cicco) - Gotti hated Castellano so 100% sure he wasn't there + when this happened it was 1978 at that time Gotti was located in ozone park queens - not in bensonhurst brooklyn (where this occured) - yes the Westies were very violent and extremely tough but in a war with Gambino's back then most definitely outnumbered + don't forget the Gambino's had an equally violent and fearless crew in Canarsie (Roy Demeo crew) ---- guess who the Westies were going work with after this meeting at the restaurant .... the Demeo crew
He was an undercover cop, he was stalling to prevent a bloodbath. He knew Jackie was messed up in the head so he capitalized on it by confusing him with his recollection of what Frankie said. That argument and the long moment of indecision bought them enough time to prevent a shootout in the end.
what brand of leater jacket does gary old man wear in this film also wear is it sold like a store or a internet site???????????????????????????????????
Terry Noonan was wrong..Flannery said if they dont hear from him in a certain amount of time...go in there and start blazin....How the fuck a dude gonna call and say...Im in trouble come and help me...he'd be dead before he could make that statement
or actually Ed Harris does a great job and is portraying Frankie as the moron he is...I point to the botched extortion scene with the bushmills and this.....gives away everything, acting nervous, getting antsy.....I guess we don't have a scene if they play it right but the planning was pretty sloppy
Maybe it's because Ed Harris is so unlikable that he's actually good for the character? I don't know, I wish someone else played Frankie sometimes. RD Call is a perfect sociopathic killer though.
Sean Penn and Gary Oldman, Oh God this is pure cinematic gold.
One of the most underated gangster's movies out there, this film is perfect from start to end & this is one of my favorite scenes love how the tension rises here...
That's why those of us who know get to enjoy that bit more. One for the non-selfies.
Mr. J's Educational Oasis it was released the same DAY as goodfellas actually. That’s why it’s not well known
The westies
gary oldman is unbelievable in this film. he's flawless.
people tend to recognize Gary Oldman in movies such as The Professional, Batman or Harry Potter..but its movies like State of Grace,Chattahoochee, Prick up your Ears,Sid and Nancy ,Immortal Beloved, JFK. that show his true gifted talent
Jfk?
WHAT Gary is barely recognisable in any movies he does
brillian. just superb acting. three different dimensions of acting done by harris, penn and oldman in one scene. i think this scene should be part of acting classes in schools. just top notch.
Fuckin a'
I can't believe this and Rosencrantz and Guildernstern were made back to back! Gary is so dynamic!!!!
Gary should’ve at least been nominated for an Oscar for this role. Such a shame that he wasn’t and that this movie didn’t get the praise it deserved.
Agreed, it gets its praise as the years go on. Gary should've been nominated for a a few films he did.
All the actors were great in this film, even had Burgess Meredith !!
@max_c OVERACTING. makes me sick in my stomack.
Oldman is a genius. His range is collosal. He can do it all
Great scene, when you watch this movie for the first time and you see that phone ringing with no one in the room your like"oh shit!" lolol.
I love Gary so much ❤️💋
love Gary Oldman in this. "that's your brother, my heart goes out to you"- lmao
"Nothing personal, your fucking stupid!"
Sean Penn and Gary Oldman in one movie is too good to be true
I never scene this movie but this my favorite part lmao the back and forth was hilarious. "Nothing personal richard your stupid" 🤣🤣🤣
One of the many, many movies Oldman should've been nominated for an Oscar, the fact that he hasn't shows how meaningless those awards are.
Gary Oldman is the best Actor i have ever seen
This was one of the most tense, teeth clenching, scenes in this movie.
Oldman is a goddamn genius.
Sean Penn was amazing!!! He is a genius, especially in this movie. I love they way Gary and Sean argue- like an old married couple
"He's fuckin' retarded- nothing personal Richard, you're stupid." lol :)
For sure his best movie.
Gary Oldman is amazing. He really is great with accents, and now I wanna see this movie!
I always think on how much pre-cell phone era phone scenes were more dramatic. lol
Its changes the dynamics of suspense and drama in mystery/cops&robbers/horror movies nowdays when like everyone has a portable phone in their hand or carrying with them.
I love this movie! I had the same haircut as Gary Oldman last winter, but my hair has grown more since that.
Gary Oldman is the friggin' man!
best moment in movie history
One of the greatest movies ever made and relatively unknown which is in itself a fuckin' sin. In my top 5 mob films of all time.
Best movie ever made
One of my favorite movies of Gary, but ONE of MANY!!! :D
The scene before this one with jackie in the car is one of the funniest ever...
One of my favorite movies of Gary, but ONE of MANY!!! :D
man, until I checked wikipedia a while ago, I always tought Oldman was American, since he's done alot of american roles, anyway he's a damn good actor
excellent movie.

This is a great movie and so is Once upon a Time in America. Gritty irish mafia movie. Great performance by Penn, Oldman, Harris.
I'm a big Penn fan
but Oldman pretty much wiped the floor with Terry Moon's face. Fucking masterpiece gangster 90's film.
Only thing that tops this one is Carlito's Way with Pacino. But this one comes very very very close.
You got that one right baby!
"IT AINT A HIT!"
This really happened in 1977
"I'm a cop! I'm a Judas, Cop!"
was I the only one shouting at Sean Penn's character ''you stupid fucking fuck'' when Jackie was killed?
Why would Frank call if he was dead, Nicholson would be fried chicken too, so no, he said if he didn't call!!!
Spoiler alert:
Penn's character was stalling. He was an undercover cop and he didn't want a bloodbath on his hands since Oldman's character, who was his childhood friend, was a hot head who was highly strung most of the time, so he tended to be trigger happy.
Gary should played the joker it would be just way too awesome!
Oh I realize this is probably downloaded 20 years ago but thank God oh thank God I've been looking everywhere for this I mean it's not the entire scene but I'll settle for it as long as I've been looking for it good job thank you

@captain07234 i agree he was awesome in that role!
It's your brother, my heart goes out to ya.--

It's easy to tell when someone doesn't really smoke cigarettes
ed Harris was perfect for that role and gary oldman was crazy. think sean penn should of been played by someone else but i guess they picked him because hes a cop
Sean Penn was perfect for this role
Great movies so hold up it was a Sean Penn movie the Gary oldman stole the movie it became a big star after that performance
Fasza ez raúl, mi?

@@JulesX1977 if I'm right in saying Roy demeo was at that meeting too
What Jack said was the truth...If he didnt call it is what he said......How the fuck you call to say..."Hey Im In trouble"...doesnt make sense
He was an undercover cop, he was stalling to prevent a bloodbath. He knew Jackie was messed up in the head so he capitalized on it by confusing him with his recollection of what Frankie said. That argument and the long moment of indecision bought them enough time to prevent a shootout in the end.
@AliceCullen86V Probably the same reason why Johnny Depp doesn't have one.
what brand of leater jacket does gary old man wear in this film
also wear is it sold like a store or a internet site???????????????????????????????????
@gsh73la
is he?
this is a true event involvin the westies and fat tony salerno genovese boss
Terry Noonan was wrong..Flannery said if they dont hear from him in a certain amount of time...go in there and start blazin....How the fuck a dude gonna call and say...Im in trouble come and help me...he'd be dead before he could make that statement
that is so arrogant..."see she aint even home"
or actually Ed Harris does a great job and is portraying Frankie as the moron he is...I point to the botched extortion scene with the bushmills and this.....gives away everything, acting nervous, getting antsy.....I guess we don't have a scene if they play it right but the planning was pretty sloppy
For the same reason MICKEY ROURKE will never have an oscar.too many politics.
John Gotti was not there it Was Carmine Doc Lombardozzi , Johns Gotti Mentor Neil Delacroch
They're all sissies.
Maybe it's because Ed Harris is so unlikable that he's actually good for the character? I don't know, I wish someone else played Frankie sometimes. RD Call is a perfect sociopathic killer though.
Ed’s character isn’t sopposed to be likable
This is so stupid, how are you gonna call if your dead?...Jackie was right...If he dont call after a certain time then you go in blasting
gary oldmen is way cooler
