My favorite fact about this movie is that Harold Ramis, the director (also cameod as the doctor), knew Bill Murray well enough to know he gets burned out as production goes on, so it was actually filmed in reverse, with his happiest scenes first, and his more douchey scenes from the first part of the movie we filmed last.
They also had a falling out over this movie but reconciled just before Ramis' death. One of my favorite quotes from Ramis about Murray was "and irritated Bill Murray is funnier ..." this was said after they confessed to making Murray's Proton Pack something like 30lbs heavier than the others (Ramis co-wrote Ghost Busters and Animal House among others).

I know this comment is a year old but has she seen rocky 4? I think it would be hilarious for her to watch Stallone end the cold war by punching a giant swedish man pretending to be a Russian.
In the most honest but least dramatic way, this movie saved my life. I've suffered with depression since I was 15 and experienced many times where I've wanted to end my life because it felt like there was absolutely no point in living. I couldn't get any enjoyment from my hobbies anymore and even getting out of bed was a chore. But watching this film over a year ago for the first time ended up completely changing the way I saw my life. What Bill Murray's character did to end up breaking the repetitive cycle, I ended up applying to my own life. I learned piano, learned new languages, made short films, wrote poetry, went to therapy, started helping people and being as productive as possible. Because today will only come once. And there's only so much life that you can get out of one day. But now, I literally live every day to the fullest instead of living it like a Groundhog Day

I loved when you said, "Make the best of it, Phil!" That's exactly what he ended up doing. In the end, he tried to do all the right things, even knowing it would all vanish the next day, and nobody would know what he did. That's what finally broke the curse.
Years phill spent in Groundhog day: Well a film blog has worked it out for you: 33 years and 350 days. These included the 38 “Days shown on screen”, the 414 “Days mentioned” (including the “six months. @11:49...He's been there way more than 6 months. He just said that's how long it would take to become an expert at that hat trick. I think he ends up being there 30 years or more.
It's was great seeing you so happy when he broke from the loop... I've always wondered if Phil even remembers the life he had in Pittsburgh before the loop started. From his point of view, it's been years or maybe decades since he's been home. Punxsutawney is like his home now so he'd probably be more comfortable living there than returning to Pittsburgh.
I think I read somewhere that writer said the loop was caused by him having a one night stand with a gypsy woman then being rude the next morning, so she cursed him to live the same day for 10,000 years.
I think that some days he visited Pittsburgh. He could just grab the van as soon as he wakes up and get ahead of the blizzard. Pittsburgh is only 2 hours from Punxsy. If he saw his coworkers though, they'd be puzzled and angry why he was back in Pittsburgh instead of doing his job.
“So it’s been 6 months” Nah, it took him 6 months to learn that, not that he started 6 months ago. There are a few guesses as to how many loops he went through. One says 30 years, others say 9.
I have an early 90's movie for you that is a forgotten gem. Do a reaction to "The Fisher King" (1991) starring Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges. You'll love it.

Great reaction to a fun movie. I just found your channel today and subscribed, so looking forward to some lovely reactions. 11:50 "so it's been six months' Um no.. it was six months of him throwing cards into a hat. He spent around 7 - 8 years in this curse. There's a script of this movie where the explanation of his plight was, his ex curses him with some voodoo witchcraft.
It was such a joy to see your reaction to this classic! Have you ever heard of a movie called 'Synecdoche, New York'? It's my favourite movie of all time, and it's darkly hilarious and deeply moving, and it would mean the absolute world to me if you'd watch it. I guarantee you've never seen anything quite like it before.
Back in the day I went to the cinema to see it 3 times: 1 with my brothers, 1 with my cousins and 1 with some friends, it was like a Groundhog Day experience by itself XDDD
While I agree with your assessment, in many ways I feel this movie & Scrooged are basically the same movie, he start's out in the real world & he's a complete jerk & he has to learn love & compassion to stay in the real world, or he's not going to be part of it any more. He makes the transformation, has a change of heart, he stays in the real world & gets the girl.
Back in the 80s & 90s Andie McDowell was one of those actors who seemed to be in every hit movie; then Hollywood decided she was too old and she almost seemed to disappear. So much talent and so little imagination in Hollywood to give her parts she deserved. kerk
It's been estimated that Phil relived Groundhog Day for more than 30 years. Another Andie MacDowell romantic comedy: Green Card. I promise you'll love it!
That's what I've been hearing. That's crazy!! It makes sense though, being able to master the piano like that has got to take many many years of practice.
By the way - Groundhog Day was shot on location in Woodstock, Illinois - which substituted for Puxatawny, Pennsylvania. I have visited Woodstock, IL on several occasions to do some sight-seeing of the town (as recently as in the last two years) and it retains the same charm and has changed very little since the making of Groundhog Day. Even the lovely bed and breakfast house where Phil Connor (Bill Murray's character) is still operating as a B & B - it's called The Cherry Tree Inn!
I really like this movie. I also liked your reaction to it. It's amazing how you figured out Phil's plan right off the bat. You are pretty good when it comes to that.
It goes, If he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of Winter. If he Doesn't see his shadow it is a month and a half until Spring. Six weeks and a month and a half are the same thing. 👱♀️😃👗👠👠😊💓👍
I'm from Pittsburgh and still live there. There's only a few good things in the main downtown worth seeing. Most things worth seeing are in the outskirts of Pittsburgh.

It is interesting that the turning point in this movie is when he dives off of the chrch steeple with his arms outstretched as if being crucified forming a cross.

I know you didn't show her in this video, but Doris the waitress is also from _Schitt's Creek._ She played Wendy, owner of the Blouse Barn, and David Rose's former boss.
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is also with Bill Murray :) well, so as any other Wes Anderson movie...
My favorite!
Great movie. The royal tennenbaums and grand Budapest hotel also great options
You would probably like Michael Keaton in, "Mr. Mom" and "Multiplicity" Andie McDowell's hair is in it too! Another classic is Mel Brooks, "Young Frankenstein."
Great reaction to a fun movie. I just found your channel today and subscribed, so looking forward to some lovely reactions. You will probably see a lot of recommendations for Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, which I would agree with if you haven't seen them. They are classic RomComs that have stood the test of time.
I actually went back to YOU'VE GOT MAIL with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, and I now love THAT one as well. It's so much fun to watch New York change seasons as the movie goes on!
Fun Fact: The head groundhog honcho is played by Brian Murray Bill Murray’s brother.
I say let the smiling continue 😊. Movies that will probably make you smile:
As Good as It Gets (1997)
Lost in Translation (2003)
Up in the Air (2009)
Sideways (2004)
Big (1988)
St. Vincent (2014)
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
The Nice Guys (2016)
The Terminal (2004)
Thanks Bill!! I've added the suggestions to my list. Thanks so much for the kind words, they mean a lot!
As a fan of Murray, Johansson, and Japan, I say Lost on Translation is a must see.

"so it's been six months' Um no.. it was six months of him throwing cards into a hat.
Thank you for the kind words ☺️ I really appreciate it. I haven't seen that movie but I've added it to my list. Thanks for suggestion and support ❤️
the snowstorm was the phenomenon that made it happen
You have a great laugh, and yes Andie's hair is amazing!
Back in the day I went to the cinema to see it 3 times: 1 with my brothers, 1 with my cousins and 1 with some friends, it was like a Groundhog Day experience by itself XDDD
OMG, this movie is one of my favorite. I can't believe i am this old now, I remember watching it when it came out!
It's got everything! I'll be watching it every groundhog from now on :)
Pittsburgh is absolutely beautiful, it's been ranked in the top 5 best skylines / views for years now
I know it’s not Christmas, but Scrooged is one of Bill Murray’s best.
I've seen this mentioned a few times, it's definitely on my list!
To keep with the Christmas theme I would recommend "Die Hard" ;)
It’s terrible and mean spirited.
Actually the movie, the man who knew too little was by far his best🤗
While I agree with your assessment, in many ways I feel this movie & Scrooged are basically the same movie, he start's out in the real world & he's a complete jerk & he has to learn love & compassion to stay in the real world, or he's not going to be part of it any more. He makes the transformation, has a change of heart, he stays in the real world & gets the girl.
Back in the 80s & 90s Andie McDowell was one of those actors who seemed to be in every hit movie; then Hollywood decided she was too old and she almost seemed to disappear. So much talent and so little imagination in Hollywood to give her parts she deserved. kerk
One of my all time favorites. Very funny with a great underlying message.
It's been estimated that Phil relived Groundhog Day for more than 30 years.
Another Andie MacDowell romantic comedy: Green Card. I promise you'll love it!
It has been theorized that he was in that Loop for 30 to 40 years.
That explains why he became so good at so many thinks.
That's what I've been hearing. That's crazy!! It makes sense though, being able to master the piano like that has got to take many many years of practice.
@@PopcornInBed I think he literally spent 6 months of the time throwing cards in a hat every day
I’ve heard at least 2000-3000 years.
"Id love to go to Pittsburgh"
No. You don't.
One of my favorite Romantic Comedies. Yes, watch that every groundhog day. And definitely watch, "It's a Wonderful Life" every Christmas/New Year's.
Bill was stuck in the loop for 33 years and 350 days. That means he was left repeating the same day an incredible 12,395 times.
For some reason I seem to recall it was in the thousands of years. But my memory is crap.
Please never stop doing this.
There are movie theatres that play it, every year, on loop all day long. This is how I know there are people like me out there :)
I'm from Pittsburgh and still live there. There's only a few good things in the main downtown worth seeing. Most things worth seeing are in the outskirts of Pittsburgh.
Notting Hill is a good one if you haven't seen it.
I've seen it and yes I absolutely LOVED it!
@@PopcornInBed :D Well, if you want to stick with the Bill Murray theme, one of his best movies was "What About Bob?", if you haven't seen that.
The line "I don't know where you're headed, but can you call in sick?" was completely ad libed by Bill.
Great reaction!... check out "What About Bob?", another Bill Murray classic...
I haven't seen it, added to my list! Thanks for the suggestion!!
@@PopcornInBed You must see that movie.
One of Bill's best but it doesn't get much credit.
Yes. It's funnier than hell! Not quite as good as this one, though.
Happy Groundhog Day! Such a great movie, watch it over and over. For an anniversary update, be awesome if you could double the length of your reaction, then we get double the laughs. Hope you get to watch It again.
Would love to see you react to "American Beauty". Great film. Up there with Shawshank.
I've added that to my list. Thanks for the suggestion. I loved Shawshank.
It is interesting that the turning point in this movie is when he dives off of the chrch steeple with his arms outstretched as if being crucified forming a cross.
I've been obsessed with watching people's first time watching videos. They're so fun, can't wait to see your other reactions.
i read a story regarding this film, and it was discussed how long he spent reliving the same day over and over and it was surmised to be several decades. Something like 40 years.
I've seen a lot of people watching this movie, and that makes me happy! I hadn't seen this until a few years ago, and I absolutely loved it! It's just fun! I'm glad you enjoyed it, too!
Watching this in 2023... fun to hear her get excited about reaching 1K subs as I look at the sub counter that now says 278K.
A timeless movie on every levels.
Fun fact: Andie MacDowell is my hair idol! Okay, maybe that fact isn’t that fun!
The guy that wrote the original script said he was stuck in that time loop for 100,000 years but the director Harold Ramis said it's more like 10 years lol
Still 10 years is a long time to be repeating the same day over and over again!!
It was 10,000 and changed to 10 years. (source google)
@@Icureditwithmybrain I prefer the idea he was there for 10,000 years for whatever reason.
@@BrokenGodEnt I don't see how someone could retain their sanity being alive that along, let alone being stuck in the same location and 24-hour period.
In the book he was stuck on the same day for 33 years and 350 days.
Great reaction. Also, I loved Palm Springs.
Thank you so much 💕
1:25 the words every movie recommender longs to hear.
"Let's live here"
Seems like the director was drunk when he chose that ending.
You should react to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Steve Martin and Michael Cain, its hilarious
I forgot Harold Ramis was in this movie. Rest In Peace Egon.
My most favorite Rom-Com of all time is Groundhog's Day. There's nothing else like it.
I love your channel. I love your reactions to these classic films that I love so much. Please keep it up!
Fun fact: He spent 12,395 days trapped which translates to approximately 34 years.
It's funny when I hear it talked about as being a lighter movie, when in fact, under the surface, it might be the deepest movie hollywood has ever made.
“‘Cause it's the heat of the moment
The heat of the moment
The heat of the moment, showed in your eyes”…my favorite episode of Supernatural is based off this movie. 😊
