If I had to repeat the same day I'd definitely have fun with it and use it for personal development & random acts of kindness just like Phil (eventually) did. I completely agree with you that this movie is a great wake up call to be a kinder human being. It's a great metaphor for real life. We can start to feel like we're stuck in a rut sometimes. But if we practice mindfulness and gratitude, we can see every day from a new perspective.😊 Ps. I'm gonna keep spamming u to react to the 1985 film, "Mask" starring Cher. My favorite fact about this movie is that Harold Ramis, the director (also cameod as the doctor), knew Bill Murray well enough to know he gets burned out as production goes on, so it was actually filmed in reverse, with his happiest scenes first, and his more douchey scenes from the first part of the movie we filmed last.
They also had a falling out over this movie but reconciled just before Ramis' death. One of my favorite quotes from Ramis about Murray was "and irritated Bill Murray is funnier ..." this was said after they confessed to making Murray's Proton Pack something like 30lbs heavier than the others (Ramis co-wrote Ghost Busters and Animal House among others).
Saw an interview with Harold once on television. He said what your statement reflected. Also he had said that Phil was stuck around 40 years in the time loop. Searched the internet for this interview with no success.
@@waylonmartin5662 I saw the same interview. Can you imagine? 40 years?! And he also said that an annoyed Bill Murry was funnier. In Ghostbusters they made his Proton Pack about 40 pounds heavier than the others.
In the most honest but least dramatic way, this movie saved my life. I've suffered with depression since I was 15 and experienced many times where I've wanted to end my life because it felt like there was absolutely no point in living. I couldn't get any enjoyment from my hobbies anymore and even getting out of bed was a chore. But watching this film over a year ago for the first time ended up completely changing the way I saw my life. What Bill Murray's character did to end up breaking the repetitive cycle, I ended up applying to my own life. I learned piano, learned new languages, made short films, wrote poetry, went to therapy, started helping people and being as productive as possible. Because today will only come once. And there's only so much life that you can get out of one day. But now, I literally live every day to the fullest instead of living it like a Groundhog Day
I, though in my own way, can relate in relation to times past. I, too, seek solace in creating. Your story is important to share, as it helps others find grace. May you continue to remain so. Take care and God bless. ✝️
My wife grew up in the Soviet Union so only has knowledge of movies of that era that are known globally. She absolutely loves Groundhog Day and it's by far her favorite movie.
I know this comment is a year old but has she seen rocky 4? I think it would be hilarious for her to watch Stallone end the cold war by punching a giant swedish man pretending to be a Russian.
I loved when you said, "Make the best of it, Phil!" That's exactly what he ended up doing. In the end, he tried to do all the right things, even knowing it would all vanish the next day, and nobody would know what he did. That's what finally broke the curse.

He makes the transformation, has a change of heart, he stays in the real world & gets the girl.
Bare in mind that he's meant to have been in repeating this day for decades *at least.* They never really explained how long he was in the loop for. Harold Ramis at first said it could be thousands of years, but then later said it was probably more like a few decades or so.. Someone online worked out that it has to have been at least 34 years.
You had me smiling the whole time too!! Love this movie, loved your reaction. Now you've gotta watch Scrooged, you can wait for Christmas season if you want, it's my second favorite Bill Murray led movie after this one. Other great Bill Murray movies: Stripes, Ghostbusters and Caddyshack.
I'll always love this movie, and not just because I love it (which I do), but because of how much my Dad loved it. Fond memories I'll always cherish; when I watch this movie I can't help but remember my Dad.
This movie is intended as a metaphor for life. How many years did Phil spend re-living the same day before he figured out what life is really about? How many years do you or I spend before WE figure out what life is all about? Each of us has to learn to be unselfish, try new things, learn new skills, be kinder, help people, and love people for their good instead of ours. Just like Phil. The sooner we do that, the sooner we get out of our monotonous existence.
I really like this movie. I also liked your reaction to it. It's amazing how you figured out Phil's plan right off the bat. You are pretty good when it comes to that.
It's was great seeing you so happy when he broke from the loop... I've always wondered if Phil even remembers the life he had in Pittsburgh before the loop started. From his point of view, it's been years or maybe decades since he's been home. Punxsutawney is like his home now so he'd probably be more comfortable living there than returning to Pittsburgh.
I think I read somewhere that writer said the loop was caused by him having a one night stand with a gypsy woman then being rude the next morning, so she cursed him to live the same day for 10,000 years.
I think that some days he visited Pittsburgh. He could just grab the van as soon as he wakes up and get ahead of the blizzard. Pittsburgh is only 2 hours from Punxsy. If he saw his coworkers though, they'd be puzzled and angry why he was back in Pittsburgh instead of doing his job.
“So it’s been 6 months” Nah, it took him 6 months to learn that, not that he started 6 months ago. There are a few guesses as to how many loops he went through. One says 30 years, others say 9.
Fun Fact: The doctor he goes to see is Harold Ramis aka Egon. Also, Bill Murry did a Jeep commercial for the new Jeep Gladiator for the 2020 Super Bowl that was set in Groundhogs Day that Murry and his brother ( who played the Mayor ) wrote the commercial and got some of the other actors to play in it.
I say let the smiling continue 😊. Movies that will probably make you smile: As Good as It Gets (1997) Lost in Translation (2003) Up in the Air (2009) Sideways (2004) Big (1988) St. Vincent (2014) Little Miss Sunshine (2006) The Nice Guys (2016) The Terminal (2004)
I've seen a lot of people watching this movie, and that makes me happy! I hadn't seen this until a few years ago, and I absolutely loved it! It's just fun! I'm glad you enjoyed it, too!
The guy that wrote the original script said he was stuck in that time loop for 100,000 years but the director Harold Ramis said it's more like 10 years lol

It's my favourite movie of all time, and it's darkly hilarious and deeply moving, and it would mean the absolute world to me if you'd watch it. I guarantee you've never seen anything quite like it before.
The guy from Schitts Creek is Chris Elliot. He was a writer and recurring actor on the David Letterman's old show.. then he had a Fox sitcom called Get A Life which was really surreal, then starred in a cult movie called Cabin Boy, and had a role in Theres Something About Mary. Chris kinda plays himself in everything, but then so does Bill. Btw Bill's brother, Brian Doyle Murray plays the mayor here. Brian is most known for his distinctive voice.
You are correct about the turning point being when Phil started using his "gift" to do good. When Phil realizes he can use his extensive knowledge of people's habits, likes, hopes and dreams for THEIR betterment as opposed to using them to get HIS way that is the turning point. Catching the kid, helping Buster when he's choking, changing the tire, trying to save the old man, etc. (even subtle things like asking Larry his opinion on where to set up the camera, or showing an interest in someone's life "Larry, we never talk. Do you have kids?" or buying way too much insurance from Needle-nose Ned (that made Ned's day). At one point while trying to save the old man he refers to him as "Father" instead of "Pops" which is much more respectful. Also, even though he was using people that still didn't make him happy... remember he tried suicide quite a few times. Check the link below for Harold Ramis on the movie's impact on various religions. The Buddhists really really loved it. Everyone saw something in it. Watching it multiple times helps. I am well over 100 times. The movie is much more than a comedy. Thanks for the reaction. You're right... it makes you want to be nicer to people and live each day better. I second this; for personal reasons it also has very deep meaning to me. Robin Williams; along with Dead Poets Society, is at his best, and the supporting cast, which strictly speaking Robin Williams is amongst, is incredible. kerk

Another Fun Fact...which you might have learned by now, the gentleman in the top hat and the red vest, reading the official Scrolls when they take out the Groundhog...his name is BUSTER...is played by Bill's brother Brian. He's in most of Bill's movies which is pretty cool. Also, Harold Ramis, the Dr. he went to see about his head, was the Director and producer of the movie; and, of course, plays Igon in the Ghostbuster flms.
Harold Ramos, the director (plays the doctor in this movie) was quoted as saying that Bill's character would have been stuck in this day for between 30 and 40 years. Just looking at the piano playing and ice sculpting. Endeavors anyone can learn, but do take many years of daily practice to become proficient.
He could have been caught in the loop for up to 31.4 years by some calculations. He did become a doctor, fluent in many languages, an artist, expert at throwing cards and so much more.

They never really explained how long he was in the loop for. Harold Ramis at first said it could be thousands of years, but then later said it was probably more like a few decades or so.. Someone online worked out that it has to have been at least 34 years.
OMG, this movie is one of my favorite. I can't believe i am this old now, I remember watching it when it came out!
It's got everything! I'll be watching it every groundhog from now on :)
I like action and sci fi films, but also like a well written and acted film. Groundhog day is one of those perfect film in its own right.
I've been obsessed with watching people's first time watching videos. They're so fun, can't wait to see your other reactions.
Best line:
"Well, it's Groundhog Day...again."
My absolute favorite part is when the piano teacher kicks the little girl out because Phil gave her a wad of cash.
Me and my wife have watched this movie every year at Groundhog Day for over 25 years.
Thank you so much ❤️ ! A few people have suggested I watch scrooged. It's definitely on my list. Love me some Bill Murray.
and Meatballs! that's another feel-good one.
@@LBrobie *Harold Ramis directs this and plays the Dr
@@TheRustyGuitarist yes, sorry, i was mistaken! thanks! :) (i edited my comment)
I'll always love this movie, and not just because I love it (which I do), but because of how much my Dad loved it. Fond memories I'll always cherish; when I watch this movie I can't help but remember my Dad.
If you loved this you SO need to watch AMELIE! It’s different, but such a beautiful movie with the same type of magical storyline.
1 year later you only grabbed 162 thousand more subscribers ahahah way to go girl!
I think I read somewhere that writer said the loop was caused by him having a one night stand with a gypsy woman then being rude the next morning, so she cursed him to live the same day for 10,000 years.
according to the script,it's been thousands of years.
“So it’s been 6 months”
Nah, it took him 6 months to learn that, not that he started 6 months ago. There are a few guesses as to how many loops he went through. One says 30 years, others say 9.
One of my all time favorites. Very funny with a great underlying message.
Im going back to your first reactions..your laughing and smiling always make my day happier
Movies that will probably make you smile:
As Good as It Gets (1997)
Lost in Translation (2003)
Up in the Air (2009)
Sideways (2004)
Big (1988)
St. Vincent (2014)
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
The Nice Guys (2016)
The Terminal (2004)
Thanks Bill!! I've added the suggestions to my list. Thanks so much for the kind words, they mean a lot!
As a fan of Murray, Johansson, and Japan, I say Lost on Translation is a must see.
One of my favorite movies ever..
A timeless movie on every levels.
The director said it was over ten years. Some people tried to figure out scientifically and came to over 33 years.
Aristotle would be proud!
"Peggy Sue Got Married" or "The Princess Bride" are both great heartwarming movies.
I've seen a lot of people watching this movie, and that makes me happy! I hadn't seen this until a few years ago, and I absolutely loved it! It's just fun! I'm glad you enjoyed it, too!
If you want to know how long he was repeating the same day, the director said the original script revealed he was there 10,000 years.
The guy that wrote the original script said he was stuck in that time loop for 100,000 years but the director Harold Ramis said it's more like 10 years lol
Still 10 years is a long time to be repeating the same day over and over again!!
It was 10,000 and changed to 10 years. (source google)
@@Icureditwithmybrain I prefer the idea he was there for 10,000 years for whatever reason.
@@BrokenGodEnt I don't see how someone could retain their sanity being alive that along, let alone being stuck in the same location and 24-hour period.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time because it reminds me that each day is a gift and I should use my time to make myself a better person.
*(Coming to America)* starring *Eddie Murphy* is considered a Romantic Comedy
I’ve watched loads and loads of your videos today but this is the first one that’s made me leave a comment. Groundhog Day is my favourite movie of all time and I’m so glad you liked it.
If you haven’t seen the Back To The Future trilogy, you really need to. You’ll love it.
It just occurred to me that he went without having a warm shower for years. 🥶
I love your reactions, watched them all so far. Have you ever watched Field of Dreams? It might be worth considering.
Thank you so much for your support. It really means a lot to me. I haven't seen field of dreams, I've added it to my list. Thanks again!!
I have been watching this movie every Feb 2nd since 1998. I love this movie! It was a pleasure watching you watch it for the 1st time.
Great reaction to a fun movie. I just found your channel today and subscribed, so looking forward to some lovely reactions. You will probably see a lot of recommendations for Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, which I would agree with if you haven't seen them. They are classic RomComs that have stood the test of time.
I actually went back to YOU'VE GOT MAIL with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, and I now love THAT one as well. It's so much fun to watch New York change seasons as the movie goes on!
Groundhog Day is lifechanging! Glad you saw it.
It was such a joy to see your reaction to this classic! Have you ever heard of a movie called 'Synecdoche, New York'? It's my favourite movie of all time, and it's darkly hilarious and deeply moving, and it would mean the absolute world to me if you'd watch it. I guarantee you've never seen anything quite like it before.
Thank you for the kind words ☺️ I really appreciate it. I haven't seen that movie but I've added it to my list. Thanks for suggestion and support ❤️
You have a great laugh, and yes Andie's hair is amazing!
Harold Ramis the director:

I have an early 90's movie for you that is a forgotten gem. Do a reaction to "The Fisher King" (1991) starring Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges. You'll love it.
I second this; for personal reasons it also has very deep meaning to me. Robin Williams; along with Dead Poets Society, is at his best, and the supporting cast, which strictly speaking Robin Williams is amongst, is incredible. kerk
Fun Cameos in this movie. Brian Murray played Mayor Buster in the movie is Bill Murray Brother. And Harold Raimis who played Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters plays the Doctor who cant seem to see or Diagnose Phil in this movie
"Id love to go to Pittsburgh"
No. You don't.
It's Feb 2nd, 2022 now and I've come back to watch your older posts again. You said in this video that you have just over 1,100 followers and now you have 171,000+. It's been quite a journey with you so far. Thanks for the entertainment.
You should react to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Steve Martin and Michael Cain, its hilarious
I was born on 02/02/1986 and for years it has become a ritual to watch "Groundhog Day" alone or with family.
Every day has to be an adventure, you can't turn back time.
Great reaction. Also, I loved Palm Springs.
Thank you so much 💕
This is my birthday movie. I was born on February 2nd, and have watched this film on my birthday every year since this came out. I'm glad you love it, too!
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is also with Bill Murray :) well, so as any other Wes Anderson movie...
My favorite!
Great movie. The royal tennenbaums and grand Budapest hotel also great options
33 yrs 350 days to accomplish all the things he had to master including his heart for the good of mankind. 12, 395 days.! And here I thought tv reruns get a little old after awhile. Fabulous reaction, Cassie!
Notting Hill is a good one if you haven't seen it.
I've seen it and yes I absolutely LOVED it!
@@PopcornInBed :D Well, if you want to stick with the Bill Murray theme, one of his best movies was "What About Bob?", if you haven't seen that.
So funny that you hit 1,000 subscribers and were so happy and now you have 273,000+
I'm loving watching your reaction videos especially when they are movies I already love.
Great reaction!... check out "What About Bob?", another Bill Murray classic...
I haven't seen it, added to my list! Thanks for the suggestion!!
@@PopcornInBed You must see that movie.
One of Bill's best but it doesn't get much credit.
Yes. It's funnier than hell! Not quite as good as this one, though.
Don’t apologize for smiling. Sometimes we just need to smile a lot and that’s OK. And you smiling makes other people smile!
Would love to see you react to "American Beauty". Great film. Up there with Shawshank.
I've added that to my list. Thanks for the suggestion. I loved Shawshank.
Bill was stuck in the loop for 33 years and 350 days. That means he was left repeating the same day an incredible 12,395 times.
For some reason I seem to recall it was in the thousands of years. But my memory is crap.
Fun Fact: This movie was not filmed in Punxsutawney, PA but Woodstock, IL, a little suburb outside of Chicago!
"Let's live here"
Seems like the director was drunk when he chose that ending.
I won't mind repeating the same day over again. You can learn years worth of stuff in one day.
Who couldn't love this movie? Hard to believe you only had a few thousand subscribers here!
He did become a doctor, fluent in many languages, an artist, expert at throwing cards and so much more.
love going back to the start of your journey with subs. it's great to see how far you've come along. enjoy all of your videos!!!
