I have spent the majority of the month of February watching these damn videos from the every beginning.

Christ, this guy's work is mind numbingly brilliant. I'm still totally awed by every piece of art on his site. And the most astounding thing is, he produces masterpieces so effortlessly. Feng Zhu is to art what Bruce Lee was to the martial arts.

Splitting it up in silent demos and podcasts would be great.

    podcast idea is so good!
I suggest you do the podcast on a still image and post it on UA-cam as well
so that people on UA-cam who are totally into design cinema won't miss an episode either

And a podcast would be amazing! A lot of us listen to your videos while drawing and working so an audio format is great.

I think the podcast is a great idea! I love seeing you paint but if I have to choose between a podcast or no content at all then the choice is a no-brainer.
For the series to continue I believe the most imporant thing is that *you* enjoy making these, so do whatever you think works best!

nowadays I just setup the camera in blender to the right focal length , block in elements of the scene using modified primitves and then do a quick cycles render and screengrab : afterwards I just proceed to photoshop for resize and painting over it all.
That said I only do that stuff after I understood how perspective works and how to draw it the classical way, that I learn from Scott Robertson's book. Cause I think its important to understand it first.

Feng, whatever you decide to do is great.
    Real time drawing? Great
    Sped up drawing? Great
    No drawing at all? Great
    Podcast format? Great
No design cinema because you are busy? Also great.
I would hate for you to feel like you HAVE to do an episode, because surely it will reflect on your enthusiasm that we love so much!
I think the majority will agree. Don't pay attention to some unthankfull people that raise the alarms whenever you are delaying with an episode. :)

certain subjects might be difficult in podcast format as having a visual reference really helps in understand what you mean and remember it.
what you do in this episode is amazing. you prepare so much beforehand so even though the video is long every second is valuable.
I''d still listen to them, however I'd prefer one of these great videos once a month to a good podcast every week.
at the end of the day this is all free so I can't complain, keep doing ur thing Feng and good luck with your new production company!

Podcast idea is great, and for sure there is a lot of topics that can be mentioned without using any visual help, but still they are a lot of topics like camera placement, where you can't tell everything just with words. So I think it would be the best option to just mix everything and do some time in a while a traditional ep of Design Cinema :) And something like pure podcast or like google hangout with doodling on a screen to add value to what you say would be a great compromise of knowledge and time to produce.
Thanks for the episode! it was really helpful! :)

    Thx for the new episode!
I like the idea of podcasts because, you put so much (drawing) knowledge in all design cinema videos (I watched all of them several times), that "just only" talking about things on short time bases is even as good as recording a drawing video, if not even better because you could share some other knowledge too :-) (like this video here about camera placement).

Thanks for all the effort put into Design Cinema and good luck with your project :).

  • @torchit2302

About podcasts: personally I think that depends on the subject of the podcast. If it is about some generic talk, something more about theory subjects where the screen/Photoshop is not important then it woud be good. If it is something more tachnical, where you demonstrate a technique or a workflow then I would like to see the screen capture too, even if it is prerecorded with voiceover. These are just personal preferences. Whatever you decide, keep up the good work!

When generating ideas during the making of a painting, at some point you need to extract elements from the painting and draw them out to be modeled.
It would be really cool to see a Design Cinema episode about that, in which you take an old painting, maybe done for another episode and then show the process of extracting a precise design from it. Just to drop an idea!

Hey Feng, happy new year - I wish you all the best for your new projects! Thanks very much for another great episode. I have actually been wondering a lot about camera placement and how to choose different views and perspective grids, so please do more of these!
With regard to a new style - although having a demo is awesome, I agree with what you said about just talking being useful, so I would be really keen on podcast-style episodes with the occasional demo.
