Like Coolboy said, gear up with a Positive climb, You treat a go around like a nomral take off(mind the flaps being down which is why you leave the flaps down till your off the runway, if you have to get back in the air in a hurry your flaps are down to help. so its Throttles full open, Pitch Up, Retrim, gear up, flaps up in incerments.
Great vid! It's a weird sensation facing one direction and moving diagonally. The pilot has to scan his instruments and quickly look slightly to his left out the window. Whew!
I seen this happen at dubiln airport in ireland before i was neary sure a plane was going to crash scary stuff to watch with your own eye, i hate to be on the plane. nice video thanks for the share
Well, for everyone here to know, TAP is the company that's more safe to fly, and it's pilots rocks.. :D i'm portuguese, and i know what i'm talking about, portuguese pilots are just mad! :D they rock too much, planes are their toys! ;) we love flying TAP, have fun! :D
Cause there is nothing going on here that would stop them. Cross wind landings are something you practice from Day 1, they are a fact of life, Some places it happens every landing. You learn to fly the plane in all weather from Thunder storms to calm days. Not every landing is a smooth clam no wind clear skys 70degs landing. Sometimes you cant even see the runways till 300 feet. You just learnt o deal with the weather....
have you ever heard of the "stick in the river" theory? when you throw a stick into a river it flows along with the river... same with flying, an airplane in the air is flowing with the air so there is never any "crosswind" on the plane; its being carried. the trick is to fight that flow to land the same direction as the runway.
rhgrsh. Strong winds like these cover a large area. Even if it diverted as far away as it could, on what fuel it had, it's unlikely the weather there would be any better. It must land.
flaps have got nothing to do with crosswinds!! we use them on every approach, you may approach at a higher speed to reduce the affect of windshear! Hard work for those boys, good job!!
Low on fuel,He has alot to think about, diverting to another field. What if everybody did that. They are trained to handle bad conditions. On a flight in LAX from Mexico city we had wind shear pushing us down onto the 405 in the rain ,freeway,Pilot gave full power, flaps, landed middle of runway, full reverse thrusters and brakes..it was bad. we made it
no its not this. there is a procedure that is called CAT 1 Cat 2 and CAT 3 and in some certain conditions you need to have the special licence to perform this manuver and this depends on the plane type 2 and the airport. from what you see here you cannot judge who is better than whome.
What would make it even worse for the pilots, is if they notice these people, standing there, with camera's.. waiting for there every little mistake... No pressure lads !! :P
This is Lisbon Airport? The amount of turbulance is insane even if they tilt the plane to cancel the crosswind the turbulence even picked up the 3rd plane in the video off the ground for a little bit.
Is this Lisbon airport? I've had a few dodgy landings at Lisbon before, and indeed after takeoff is often rough for the first few minutes. It's heaven for those who love turbulance! It must be to do with the huge river right by the airport.
The tower probably made him hold off due to weather or traffic or you rpilot might have missed his window to come in so he has to wait and fly a specific tower given course until he can come in.
Well, you probably would have been dead had the pilot not done that, so take your pick. You don't try to "shake Loose" a landing gear in a 50,000 - 200,000 pound passenger jet. He wasn't "cirlcing the airport," he was established in a hold at some specified intersection or nav aid waiting for the weather to improve or for his fuel situation to dictate diverting to the alternate.
if he is low on fuel !! divert the flight to the nearest airport. wait for the storm to pass and land with out puttin ppls life on rist !! been a pilot is all about being safe.. an making desicions.. this guy was not being safe..
Wo wo wo... take it easy bro! I'm just being a little bizarre, have you ever heard the word "humor"? I mean, I live in a third world country and we have only two runways on our intl. airport, but in a place like Portugal? And knowing that every so often there's a specific wind that crosses the landing path... well, I think you can have that in mind while paving a runway.
The only planes that manage to land are Portuguese ? TAP ? I've heard about Portuguese pilots skills, and it seems to be right ! Nice, men ! Obrigado !
what a dumb question, all commercial airliners always have an alternate airport or 2 they can go to, they also carry holding fuel, reserve fuel and contingency fuel, and will always know exactly what to do if there's too much crosswind, go to an alternative. simple.
where is that!? cuz is very unlikely for Swiss to be flying Jumbolinos out of Switzerland all i know the far as they go is Frankfurt and Nantes i think!?
why is the first one rocking his wings like he's bein intercepted? it almost made the video look fake till i saw the other 1's... just fight the wind with constant pressure on the yoke
I think the lesson is, air portugals pilots are very skilled and can handle difficult crosswinds. Nice work.
As my instructor used to drill into my thick skull: "No one ever makes the front page doing a go-around!" Pretty sporty crosswind.
wow just love the engine throttle up sound
I would've passed out on that Air Portugal approach. Thank goodness airplanes and pilots can handle these situations.
Superb video keep doing what your doing!
Yep I was a passenger on a plane that landed in a crosswind. They weren't screaming but they sounded like they were on a roller coaster ride :)
and listen to the reverse thrusters, this is really one of my favorite videos on youtube

Man that first one, I hope they gave everyone a free drink, that must have sucked.
that pilot did very well considering the conditions
the 2nd plane actually decide to "go around" at very very low altitude a good chooise to! he really was crabing alote for that landing XD
@davdaninja either a BAE 146 or Avro RJ model depending on the year it was built....theyre pretty much the same
simply awesom, 5 stars for the takes.
That airbus pilot stuck it, Props.
that first one is mental!!!
Think to yourself all the peoples screaming inside the first airplane....
Crazy bro !!!
that pilot in the air portugul has got some skillz
Beautiful landing because he was hardly off centre at all... no wind at that particular moment
WOW. It's hard enough doing it in a Cherokee let alone one of these beasts!
I seen this happen at dubiln airport in ireland before i was neary sure a plane was going to crash scary stuff to watch with your own eye, i hate to be on the plane.
nice video thanks for the share
Great video
fly it down, do not stall at landing, job well done!
oh scary if ya dont like flying but for me its a buzz haha but yeah i love that sound of the REV in the A319 !
Looks like the pilots are drunk as a skunk.
xDxDxD
BAe 146, top 5th safest aircraft in the world
Clap for the third one ! that wasn't that much brilliant !
Awesome video Dude!

when u are down you are down... maybe they should consider to build automated jets systems.

Yeah indeed! Damn those pilots must have been really drunk or what!?
it takes less than 45 min to make an "scape", climb again and make an 360º turn and try again, sometimes the winds get calmed by then...
i want a restaurant style vindaloo :-)
holy shit.....the people inside had fear to fly after this :-)
Rj85 British Aerospace actually. The version after the 146
Absolute genious!
I'd say we all can agree on that.
This is Lisbon Airport? The amount of turbulance is insane even if they tilt the plane to cancel the crosswind the turbulence even picked up the 3rd plane in the video off the ground for a little bit.
Scotty! Full right enigines!
warp 7 sir.
AHAHA
Is this Lisbon airport? I've had a few dodgy landings at Lisbon before, and indeed after takeoff is often rough for the first few minutes. It's heaven for those who love turbulance!
It must be to do with the huge river right by the airport.
fakkahSWE
What are you talking about? The pilot raised the gear soon after he had the plane stabilized and a positive rate of climb.
theres a diff between a crosswind landing and this severe bad weather !!
The tower probably made him hold off due to weather or traffic or you rpilot might have missed his window to come in so he has to wait and fly a specific tower given course until he can come in.
Nice job to the last two. Air Portugal huh?
those are an a321, a320 and a BAe 146
i thought the last landing the reverse thrust was too early notice it takes longer than usual for the front nose to go down
Is that Chesley Sullenberger flying that? lol
Well, you probably would have been dead had the pilot not done that, so take your pick. You don't try to "shake Loose" a landing gear in a 50,000 - 200,000 pound passenger jet. You would have if you were trully seating in the cockpit of one of those birds.
Gotta land sometime :P
if he is low on fuel !! divert the flight to the nearest airport. wait for the storm to pass and land with out puttin ppls life on rist !! been a pilot is all about being safe.. an making desicions.. this guy was not being safe..
He was on the far side (downwind side) of the runway, couldn't get back to center.
wow for the first one people on the plane are freaking out probably...
Wo wo wo... take it easy bro! I'm just being a little bizarre, have you ever heard the word "humor"? I mean, I live in a third world country and we have only two runways on our intl. airport, but in a place like Portugal? Horrible man! I would have aged a couple of years if I was on the first one.
The only planes that manage to land are Portuguese ?
TAP ?
I've heard about Portuguese pilots skills, and it seems to be right !
Nice, men !
Obrigado !
HOw long does it take to circle back around when they miss their landing? Anyone know?
And all for the love of toblerone.. tut tut
@xraxorx
Very humble from you dear friend.
And btw, it's proved that it's the safest one...
thats good point actually, lolz urr cnt reli think of an opposing punch line hehe.
Does Fly-by-wire make crosswind landings easier?
what a dumb question, all commercial airliners always have an alternate airport or 2 they can go to, they also carry holding fuel, reserve fuel and contingency fuel, and will always know exactly what to do if there's too much crosswind, go to an alternative. simple.
The Swiss had the gear out way to long after rejected the landing..
yeah here is Portugal, Lisbon the ICAO code is LPPT
el Swiss si podia aterrizar.!! no se que paso.!
hey john which airport is this and do you have rail links to this city.
Where was this filmed?
@jonymaca
There was a helicopter crash in a cemetery in
Portugal they recovered 563 bodies so far. LOL!!
haha!!! what n00bes!
Butterz771. So what do you suggest? A plane can't pull over and wait for the weather to calm down. There are no lay-bys at 30000ft!
he was comin' in too fast and too high that gives more problems at the time of touchin' down.(the first airplane)
I though i lost one of my ear!
Its pretty simple...if you feel you have pee'd in your pants, its time to go around.
good!
is that A320?
yes, if you can't fly in this, how do you expect to fly in bad weather?
landing in that weather should NOT be allowed, to dangerous!
passengers are saying, what the hell?? lol
They can have that job.
LOL I love you XD
where is that!? cuz is very unlikely for Swiss to be flying Jumbolinos out of Switzerland all i know the far as they go is Frankfurt and Nantes i think!?
I didn't read it .. as soon as it said don't read I stopped lol
@jonymaca
Helicopter? 563 bodies? duhhh!!!
Thought the BAE would make it
HOt damn was the swiss plane a corgo 1?
why is the first one rocking his wings like he's bein intercepted? it almost made the video look fake till i saw the other 1's... just fight the wind with constant pressure on the yoke
What kind of plane is that at 1:20?
oh you crosswinds
TAP rules!
no probs at all :)
fsxflightmaster. The BAe146 doesn't have thrust reversers.
Yes but he don't turn back to landing
