Every Respect for Richard Branson to acknowledge Mike Oldfield kickstarting Virgin
How incredibly cool. I had no idea, I have been an M.O. fan forever, but was completely unaware of the ties there.
Thank you for posting this. What really hits me about this video is the realisation that if it wasn't for Tubular Bells, there would have been no Virgin Airlines and everything else that came out of Richard Branson.
Now we just need Mike to put out one more Tubular Bells to get Virgin Galactic off the ground. We know that's what RB really wants maybe he'd offer Mike a spaceship this time
"I heard you could be a state employed musician in the USSR" lmao I love Mike, a true eccentric
I love Mike Oldfield. Tubular bells I, II and III are all amazing. Even into his 60's he is still very handsome and sexy.
i make him look like Shreks dog.
not really.
Played the full lp good old john
Fell asleep many a night with Peel's voice and his astounding musical selections in my head. Without Peel I would likely not have picked up so many bands and musos who have been so important to me in my life over the many years since. Peel's influence caused me to shell out lots of money acquiring the records I heard on his show and for that I'll be forever grateful
Outstanding video thank you for sharing. Mike Oldfield is a musical genius and John Peel an outstanding presenter with fantastic taste who is sadly missed. I have been a Mike Oldfield fan from the beginning, he and Neil Diamond have written the soundtrack to my life. Both will be played at my funeral but I hope that won’t be for a long time yet.
Tubular bells changed the world
Eres auténtico. No cambies
Just have realized who John Peel was and what an important figure he was for a lot of "old" Music i got to know as a Teenager in the 80ties.Thx for that. RIP. And still another Thing. All say - including himself - how shy and introverted Mike was at that time. But when watching that BBC session he looks so down to earth and relaxed like I seldom see a musician on stage.
I bought a handy second-hand Kindle Fire tablet recently, to put all of my orchestra music on, having just joined said band. The first thing I did was to put the Tres Lunas II Mike Oldfield bootleg onto it, for convenient listening via my car stereo system. I think I'll add TBII live, as well.
I still get goosebumps when I hear that intro.
My favourite Mike album is Crises from 1983.
Without this music, "The Exorcist" would have been mildly upsetting.
Hahaha that's so true and funny!
Genius ! Great Musician,Multi0instrumentalist...Poland Love Mike Oldfield ;-)
Tubular Bells fabulous piece of music. It has to be one of my favourite Mike oldfield albums. I love hearing Mike talk.
My good friend, Terry Oldfield (Mike's bro) plays flute brilliantly in this ensemble 👍
John was born 12 years before me but the fact that we shared the same birth day added to his credence, though I do still disagree with his comments on ELP.
i love that bass line !!!
And it's hard as hell to play.
Thought O would be Orbital oh well
Tubular bells, Incantations and Amarok, my 3 favorite albums.
I prefer Hilux to Amarok
Hergest Ridge is best
ISLANDS , OMMA DAWN !

Legend. This music was entirely new. And I am running under the assumption that, if you would introduce things like these, which are currently made, in the mainstream media like the morning radio, people would be very open for this and they would buy it. 🎉😎✌🏻 Always, people are the ones who will help out and create a chance and opportunity. Here, both Mike and Richard are giving full credit. So nice!
In the mid 00s Mike Oldfield surprised BBC Radio 4 presenter Jenny Murray after explaining his love for psychedelic mushrooms before insisting his belief that humans are mere biological robots . Jenny tried to snort at this but he was sincere enough to not be made to look or sound ridiculous & good for him as this is basically true in my opinion also.
Branson le debe todo a Olfield.
I like to imitate Mike's voice for the simple fact it's very soothing. Wonderful off peg musician. No one like him in that genre perhaps Frank Zappa that's the only person I can think of with that kind of ability
Talk about a prodigy: Mike Oldfield was 18 or 19 at this time.
17 - 18 when he first started writing and composing Tubular Bells.
Tubular bells, Ommadawn and Platinum have been arguably the most important records of my life since childhood. I still play them when I really need to feel comforted. John Peel just happens to be the single biggest influence on my musical taste as well. They are both legendary to me🤓🥰
We love John Peel! What a guy! ~Peace
1969 I haunted York Minister on my off days and transport museum. Tell that to the true believers
Mike Oldfield is the perfect example of what happens when an extraordinary creative brain is unleashed.
Now I have to go listen to the album, again.
Geowyn Leda I wish I could come and listen to it with you. I have never had the pleasure of sharing that wonderful experience with anyone. 🙂❤️
Is it just me, or does the woman at the beginning of the clip sound like she's talking about a Tangerine Dream concert rather than anything Oldfield did?
sorry for my poor english first of all...
she's talking about a gig in 1975... this isn't possible at all, since MO didn't play live until 1979 (apart from the premiere of TB in 1973).
btw, I like your Tangerine Dream Theory :-)
Sheila is mis-remembering. There certainly was a live performance by Tangerine Dream at York Minster in 1975 but not one by Mike Oldfield.
Wise words Sir Richard found for Mike´s indescribable music!
Which was the airing date of this?
Dos grandes amigos para siempre.
Thanks for posting.
I miss John peel
I have the LP
You must be one of about 18 million people
Meseriasl O...👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
super muzyka ❤
Bardzo dobra. Zobacz i posłuchaj Crises live 83. Super skład Mike ,Ant,Simon Phillips ,Maggie i wielki mistrz gitary basowej Phil Spalding .To jest skład oryginalny Moonlight Shadow
Mike Oldfield. The epitome of 70's cringe.
