This man is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians ever. Ommadawn, Incantations, and the very Tubular Bells make most brilliant and outstanding masterpieces in the history of music. There's simplicity and complexity together and at the same time. And also, his singles and songs labeled as pop, sound too much better than pop. Greetings from Chile. We're looking forward to the new Oldfield's album.
he’s got an air of childlike innocence to him, not in the sense of immaturity but in his retention of the ability to see the beauty in the world despite all the ugliness, to see endless joy and love in something as simple as a 45-minute piece of music. and it’s wonderful to see him speak openly about and advocate for something that is not accepted and utilized nearly enough, even still today. mike’s a genius, yes, but also just a beautiful person.
Wonderful to see him like this, I mean "in live", talking and discussing. So humble and sympathetic. Beside this I´m thinking of all the fantastic music he has made. When I see him I can hear Ommadawn, Platinum, Conflict and all others in my ears. One of the greatest musicians ever. Thank you Mike, for all the music.
This was in 1992 and Mike Oldfield is still active. Last year he released the album "Return to Ommadawn". The things around Tubular Bells are very interesting but he has done so much beyond that wonderful album. I hope more people will understand that with time. I think most people would discover something they liked if the went beyond "Tubular Bells" and "Moonlight Shadows".
Simply the greatest composer and musician who has ever lived. I have been a fan right from the beginning and never get tired of his music. It is timeless. When I caught Covid last year I had to make plans for my funeral just in case I didn’t pull through and it was touch and go. I told my wife and kids that Tubular Bells had to be played as it has been my absolute favourite music most of my life.
Excellent . I started listening to him in 1973. I was 21 yrs old . I’m 72 yrs old now and he has been a great help to me through different phases of my life. Thank you . Your help has been very important to me.
Tubular Bells was written in 1973. That is, as for right now, about 46 years ago. To this day it is the main thing most or all interviewers talk about. Despite the fact he has done 24 albums (or something like that) albums since. I think Tubular Bells is classic and very prolific but the journey through Mike Oldfields music is an interesting one. I have most albums at this point (buy whenever I find one) and do think it is an uneven journey but still SO much good compositions and songs to be found in different styles. Do NOT limit your listen to only Tubular Bells. Instead of just a favorite album I found a favorite artist in Mike Oldfield listening to the other albums!
handsome man
A collossus

This was a good interview. Mike is very much at ease now, finds it easy and smooth talking to people. I like seeing him that way.
