You ever try Tangle foot as a substitute for the glue you've been using I am not sure what is cheaper but I've seen a few people using the Tamgle foot and they seem to like it. Thanks for the video I do like the Ball concept going to try it out
Did not know about this method, but will be getting a couple of these! We have steers and miniature donkeys. These flies are relentless. I have been stung my a couple and they really hurt so badly. We are in South Central IL., and have this problem in the heat of the summer also. Thanks for the info.
My Lord, somehow I guess by having the window open at night at my ground apartment with huge trees around I somehow got biting flies in my house. They are so tiny they can come through a regular screen. I would spray the screen so mosquitoes would try to come through, I knew nothing about the No-see-ums, this is what Google call them bc they are so tiny. Does the glue come with the Bug ball?
This is very cool! Thanks for sharing. Curious how you store these in the winter since they will be all sticky. Or are they a one time/year/season use kind of thing.
So these ones you see here - actually left hanging outside all year last year ! the glue wears off over time with the weather...2 of them survived, the third one i had got a puncture... before the next season i scrub them down with dish soap and water to re apply the glue. it doesn't remove all the sticky but cleans them up some. i guess you could wash them and hang them indoors in a barn or basement until needed again !
I know some people around here feed their horses this stuff that when the feeding bug lays eggs the larva won't develop an exoskeleton. But I was told dont do it for any animal you plan to eat, it messes with the flavor but fine for working animals.
thats interesting - i haven't heard of it... time for some research ! I'm definitely NOT going to eat my horses lol !!!! so we are all good there !! Do you remember the product name ? I would LOVE to reduce the population of these most AWFUL flies.
In the UK we have 3 types. Dull brownie grey clegs. Brightly coloured, briars. Then the bigger bright deer fly. Quiet so far this year, perhaps as it has been so dull, wet and cold! Only treatment for bites is a steroid cream, eg hydrocortisone., ASAP.
it was the "glue" that came with the kit - it doesn't dry really just stays super sticky like a version of that stuff on sticky mouse traps... i imagine it drys eventually but even at the end of the season when i took the traps down for winter the glue was still sticky and i had to use rubber gloves. it does was off with dish soap and water however! hope that helps!
Many thanks for your excellent and informative video. I live in Scotland. Finding the glue that you use seems impossible here in the UK. Any idea what the ingredients are so I could make my own? (Or a product name that may be available in the UK?)
Black Soldier Flies are the best flies :-) I'm looking for a solution that doesn't poison them and isn't a sticky trap, so that i can let the lizards eat them later that day, (after cutting off their wings, so that they can't get away and become a pest again. If the lizard doesn't eat it, i can pick it up and give it to another lizard). A bug zapper does work, but I would have to buy a new one because my old one broke. I'll keep looking for other options.
@@TheLittlePalletFarmhouse I just bought my 1st farm, I'm covered in massive welts, not sure if its flies or mosquitos but I'm hurting. Going to try this out near the barn & the front porch as the bug suits are uncomfortable & hot. 👍 from Ontario 🇨🇦

You should see the flies that grow here in South Alabama. They’re big enough to use runways!
Great solution! Thanks for sharing
do you guys get them bad where you are ?

Subscribed! This is brilliant. I looked at those $300 dollar traps. It's ridiculous, I could never afford enough for my horses and goats!
Thank you! I just ordered the 3 pack 🎉
That’s such a beautiful horse. 😊
The ones here in Southern Illinois are relentless right now. We have a lot of strange and large insects here as well
I just heard you say it. Thank you

I have tried the method with the ball and having them fly up in the trap. It wasn’t ineffective, but this seems like it might work better.

Why not just recoat it with more glue on top of the dead flys? Do you have to pick them off? Thanks
i think you probably could! i guess i was wanting to clean them up a bit!!
I have them back to our live on 30 acres surrounded by lakes and ponds oak trees and pine trees and I know every year is horrible

what glue?
its the glue that came with the kit. It's a non drying tpe of sticky substance like you get on those sticky mice traps.
Love this idea, but wouldn’t be a good idea if you are feeding birds/ hummingbirds
Exactly who has time to pick off bugs one by one?? This is way too time consuming to be the slightest bit helpful.
Sounds like you need to slow down a bit!
