My Mom learned to tat with the shuttle as a child from her grandmother. She did have a go at it later in life to try to remember how. Unfortunately I did not end up with any bits she made 😕 there wasn't much crafty that she didn't try. She was talking about hunk Journaling years before u had heard anything about it. She was keeping burs of trash and I thought for sure she'd lost it. Miss her every day. Thank you so much for this challenge and the warm memories it evokes for me and I'm sure others as well. ❤🦋❤ PS... the ones you left the string on remind me of jellyfish 🐙
you have a way of teaching that most of them do. you take your time so people understand how to do it. sometimes when i am trying to learn how to do something i have to watch it 3 or 4 times because they do it so fast. you being left handed is no problem at all. keep at it. thanks.
I put this off, and put it off afraid to tackle and then just dove in! I’m a lefty as well so your instructions were perfect and oh how I loved the outcome! Now I’m off to get some other coloured thread. Great tag this week! Thanks Anne.
I’ll give it a try! I do like learning new things. I think the sense of community has been just wonderful! Everyone likes and comments every week. I think being part of the community is just as much fun as making all the tags! Thank-you so much, Anne, for all your time and efforts in making this fabulous challenge happen! 😃❤️😃❤️
Like the other lady, when I first saw your idea , I thought no way but when I saw how easy it looked ,I can’t wait to try !when I got married in the south in 1967, I received several bridge sets with tatted edges on the linen napkins . I thought of the little old ladies making them , and now I am one!
Hello Anne, I am so enjoying following along on these tags. I tried tatting. Just love it. Could not master a shuttle but killing the needle technique. Thanks for sharing your talent with us, your a very generous person and I appreciate all your time and efforts.
Thank you Anne for your continuing encouragement and motivation to give new things a try and the satisfaction that comes from being able to say 'I did it' even when my efforts are far from perfect.
Anne I found a big darning needle and I gave this a try and it is so much fun - different yarn different sizes - I thought this was going to be too difficult but your instructions made it possible- thank you!
Oh my goodness! My great-grandmother, who taught me to knit and crochet, tried to teach me to tat 70 years ago! I never quite got it. Now I’ll have to give it a try all over again! 😉
Ah!! This looks so much easier than using a tatting shuttle....when I always feel like I need at least 3 hands! Looking forward to giving this technique a go.
Tatting....this is a hard one for me ...even though I loved crochet....but...I was having a hard time sliding down the stitches at the end ...but .. thank you for teaching us different techniques every week Anne!....☺️❤️❤️❤️
My nemesis. I make lace with bobbins , no problem, but could never use a shuttle. Needle tatting , though… I signed up for 52 tags so I will try a few rounds and then cheat cheat cheat !😆Also, will promptly rifle through the bin for thread bits.😳
How many of us went looking for that long needle some friend passed on to us long ago.. aha I found it and just tried my first tatting!... I have a few more practice rounds to perfect it but loving it... thank you Anne.
Finally something that makes sense for a leftie ! thank you, by the way you can get tatting needles which I have sent off for that are blunt ended I believe so I won't stab myself ! cheaper ones are by Pony I think.
This is almost identical to something I had previously learnt as cast on bullion stitch done with a long embroidery needle. This method seems a bit more flexible though. Can’t wait to try. Thanks for sharing your expertise again Anne.
I think we sucked up all the warmth here in the upper Midwest US. We are setting records on the number of 90+ F days. (90F = 32C) in a run for early June. Just to the west of us, it's already reached over a 100F (37C). I remember tatting from my grandmother. I think my father did a little shuttle tatting from memory of what my grandmother had done.
Oh, I have noooo problem buying new craft items. Already got tatting needles on the way from Amazon! I'm on it. ;) I don't mind the left handeedness. I am just fascinating by the number of YT crafters who are left handed. I have a pet theory that most artists are working with their right brain a lot which does not have the same speech center as the left. I think lefties have a different configuration so they can talk and do art at the same time. Working theory, lol
My Grandma was an avid Crocheter and Tatting maker, she literally made hundreds of pieces, I have dozens of her pieces. However she used tatting shuttles. I have a few of her shuttles as well. I’ve never seen this technique before. I guess making small circles wouldn’t be too bad however I couldn’t imagine making a doily with this type of method…..
One summer on vacation, my dad bought a tatting shuttle, thread & book so he could teach himself to tat. He had 4 sisters that all did tatting, and to him it was the ultimate accomplishment. He tatted about 3 inch, and decalred he could tat!! Thanks for reminding me of this story in my life. They used to make needles specific for tatting, but I have no idea if these are still available.
I’m thinking, if i have to learn a new stitch shown left-handed, why can’t i learn it the left-handed way? It looks easy enough even left-handed. Famous last words but i’ll give it a go! I was never very good at knitting which is what this reminds me of. If you hear frustration from farrrr, farrrrr away, send a blessing my way! 😎 Okay, a month later, i’m finally getting to it. The left handed did not work for me but i did figure out right handed. My problem seems to be getting it off the needle. I’ve rewatched at least 6 times and see where you don’t push the stitches all the way to the bottom. So, back at it i go. Either way, the brain is getting a workout! Yeeeeeee, i figured it out! Yay! Thanks, Anne!
I love how the three together look! I will have to give tatting a try! I always wondered what makes it tatting vs. crochet and now I can see the difference. I will have to look for a long needle. I used to have one but not sure I can find it! lol
If you knit, you may recognize the pattern you demonstrated as how to cast on stitches for a new project. Thanks for sharing. This is totally different than the way I was taught to tat. (Lefty Too!)
It looked easy, but if you forget that last little stitch, with the needle through the stitch you’re holding on your finger it doesn’t work. I’m right handed, but could only make it work, if I did it left handed.😂❤️
Gosh! That is lovely but a new technique that I don't want to learn. I don't have those long needles and and I don't crochet. I'll do different circles.
Loved tatting! I’m right handed but found I could follow your tutorial easily.

Brilliant , a different technique to learn, so good for me especially as I’m left handed,!x
Thank you for the very, very good visual instructions! Looks very manageable.
I put this off, and put it off afraid to tackle and then just dove in! I’m a lefty as well so your instructions were perfect and oh how I loved the outcome! Now I’m off to get some other coloured thread. Great tag this week! Thanks Anne.

You are so inspiring! Thanks for sharing.
I really like this one, Anne! Lol...I'm right handed but I just followed along with you and now I must be an honorary lefty!
Anne, thank you very much for the clear instruction of this new project. This tatting is so cool and now I know how to do it! Totally Awesome of you!
It's so great to see this left handed as it makes sense to me now

I've always been curious about tatting. Thanks for the opportunity to learn about it!
Anne - so very helpful! thank you very much!
Wow, you made them simple enough for even me!
This reminds me ‘long tail cast on’ in knitting. Also crocheting around a ring...without the ring. Will definitely give this a try!😀

WoW, looks fabulous! thanks for sharing an easy way to make these 🌼
Thank you Anne for your continuing encouragement and motivation to give new things a try and the satisfaction that comes from being able to say 'I did it' even when my efforts are far from perfect.
I love the look of tatting! Let's hope I can do it. LOL! TFS the inspiration, Anne!
I’m going to have a go. This looks so great!
These little challenges continuously stretch my skills and expand my imagination. Thanks
Brilliant! You made my day with this technique, thamks

Ordered my needles. Looking forward to getting going with tatting
Looks like fun Anne!💕
Oh my goodness. I think I may be able to do this lol. When I saw tatting I said no way lol. This is great🤗🤗
Well this is my new crafty love. I taught myself needle tatting this year and I am addicted. Thanks Anne. ❤️❤️
This is great 💯

I am also left handed. I might just learn this from a fellow lefty

Like the theory 👌

ok, tried tried and crochet teeny tiny needles. better late and love the challenges even if I adapt.
What a great idea xx
Hi Anne me gusta mucho como trabajas ❤

Thanks for sharing. This is totally different than the way I was taught to tat. (Lefty Too!)
If you can’t get hold of a mattress or doll needle, a long sashiko needle might work and most haberdashery shops have them in stock.
Thank you
It's kind of like knitting on a sewing needle! 😊❤️
I know how to tat with a shuttle, so it's interesting to see it done a different way.
I might manage the needle-tatting but could never manoever a shuttle. You’re lucky!
It looked easy, but if you forget that last little stitch, with the needle through the stitch you’re holding on your finger it doesn’t work. I’m right handed, but could only make it work, if I did it left handed.😂❤️
So clever
That looks Tattyfalerous! Translation:- A British saying a lot of us grew up with. A Tickling Stick went with it! Ha!
Lol totally tattyfalerious good old doddy 😂😍😂
This us like a cast on bullion stitch?
Not sure, it is the way I,was shown xx
Gosh! That is lovely but a new technique that I don't want to learn. I don't have those long needles and and I don't crochet. I'll do different circles.
Thanks! I’m tight handed - but I can do this
Like this but I’m sure I could stuff it up 😅
cool
Do we have tag 25 ?
It would be so appreciated and helpful if you would zoom in closer when you are stitching, please.
I do try but it doesn't always stay in focus xx will keep trying xx
Nicely done….nervous Nellie, here, worried you would poke your eye out….funny, not funny….seriously…thank you for sharing…
