The fact Dickey learned to play slide on the plane to Miami to record this song is amazing. Duane never left any of them, Dickey said in an interview every time he plays the guitar he looks over to see Barry on bass and Duane on guitar. No band will ever be as great as these guys, EVER.
Cute story, but one can't learn slide in a few hours. PS: It's "Berry", not "Barry". The Allmans were a tremendous band, but there are so many others that were great as well. Don't confuse music with sports - there's no "best".
I think it was a quote from Gregg that Dickey learned slide on rhe plane. Well, there are pics of Dickey playing acoustic slide with Duane right next to him. So, maybe he learned the parts to *this song* that quickly, but he’d already been playing before Duane died.
Greatest band to ever play music.Seems like tragedy followed them.I've listened to the Beatles,Stones, you name them. But I always come back to the Brothers. Thank God,I grew up in a time, that music was original and genuine. And the road goes on forever. Peace
Loved Gregg, BUT I'd take Duane's "screeching" over Gregg's voice, gravelly white blues singer mode or otherwise, any day, any time, anywhere. No criticism of Gregg btw. Just that Duane & Jerry Garcia were and remain my favorite musicians of ALL TIME!!!
Shirt unbuttoned for the girls. Swagger and funk to spare. Probably the best live version of this song on the internet. Playing the song the way it became famous.
We will win #worldwar3 No more time to waste. #saferathome Playing my old favorites from ABB. Fan since '73. RIP Gregg. Miss you, though I know you and brother #duaneallman are together beyond the pearly gates.

@@judygirl3102 I think you may be confusing this performance with the 1972 Hofstra "Midnight Special" show that featured Berry on bass. This Don Kirshner show is a bit later with Lamar Williams playing bass.

This was supposed to be just an ABB concert for Don Kirshner, but Dickey got upset and put his guitar down , walked out, and started walking home .He thought the Kirshner people were just going to tape the concert and stay out of the . Instead, they tried to dictate what the band should do onstage.

He grew up in a musical family, country and bluegrass oriented. Could play most strings as a child. I'm sure dobro was one of them.

Simply the GREATEST BAND ever.LLTB
How dare you thumbs down this band. Great band 👍
They were and always be the BEST F-CKING BAND EVER! EVER!!!
Gregg was so handsome when he was young. RIP with Skydog Gregg!
Thanks, very nice. Nice to be able to actually hear the one and only gravelly voiced white blues singer to ever walk earth. Over Duane's screeching.

This is a good version, but the live one from 31 Dec. 1972 at the Warehouse in New Orleans is a classic.

I just love that the song is in Bb (B flat). Very tricky, Mr. Allman. Very tricky. =)
@@RayNDeere I sought that version out just now and you are correct, absolutely amazing. Too bad there is no video footage.
GREAT SONG.
Greg look's so young here! Great song and a great performance!
So does Gregg.
He was still in his 20's here. Filmed in 1973 at Grand Opera House in Macon, 2 years after Skydog died.
Gregg and Duane are jammin together again!
Thank you Jesus for my journey with these folk...peace💜🤴
So young OMG and yes ...missing Duanne
You bet, at this point they had loyal fans and we were worried there we be no more ABBs.
Beautiful I remember this
Me too!!!!
Beautiful Les Paul.
Guess he couldn't sing "..just get high" on TV. Still so great, regardless. BTW, they were the loudest concert I've ever been to.
Bring on a DVD of all these early 1970s Allman Brothers concert footage!

Saw them right after duane doed, dark time, dickey was loud
Dickeys best slide as an Allman Bro on this song. On eat a peach also.
Great Song! Looks like they got their hands on a bad batch of junk. Still a great sound.
Yea man they were definitely shooting dope at this point right after Duane's death but they still have a great sound!
Can somebody remaster this! Its a sin not to.
Gregg wrote this for Duane

Paule Deneau this was right after Duane died,,Greg was a mess
Dickey Betts hated to play slide guitar.
”And don`t forget the poor!” there is some latent socialism in lyrics.
More like Christian lyrics my friend. Greg would bitch slap someone who called him a socialist.
@@okskeeter278 Amigo, Greg was not a street fighter, Dickey Betts saved his ass many times.

@@robertsloan9284 🤣🤣🤣!!!
it sure seems that way,
You'd think Gregg would have taken off that big ring on the finger of his right hand to play the organ. It can't be helping his music.
