Quick note! Did this on a Sunday, so my husband was home and mostly took charge of kids so I could clean how I *wanted* to. THEY DO HELP TOO!!!! But since this is a house reset, and not a daily routine, it's much easier to have all the kids out of my space so I can move furniture and clean under everything without little people in the way.
Having kids in the room and having to direct other people on how I need them to clean is mentally taxing and overwhelming, and causes me to lose focus on what I need to do. It can then send me into meltdown, or freeze. Add filming on top of that, and it's just too much.
Aside from that, there are a wealth of privacy reasons for why I don't involve my kids actively in filming what I do. When they wander through? That's fine. The baby shadowing me? Gonna happen. But, it's not my kids' job to be on UA-cam - it's MY job. Literal job. So I don't film them actively helping, I don't give them tasks so I can film them doing it, and in general I do these videos when they are elsewhere or I have them do what I need them to do before I start filming.
For the love of all that's holy I don't need to list everything my kids do for a bunch of internet strangers who assume they do nothing because you don't see what they DO. You're going to have to take my word for the fact that they all have tasks. Deep cleaning isn't one of their tasks, believe it or not.
Anyway I'm not here to be a mommy vlogger and exploit my kids for views OK BYE LOVE YOUUUU ;)

Sorry for the silly question, how is your refrigerator working for you? I looked them up and they have great reviews. I wish they came in yellow, I'm all about Sunflowers as you are with Strawberries. We're 4 adults, 2 parents and 2 adult children. I cook a lot and I'd worry about the size...? I think you are an amazing woman! You've helped me so much 💓

It’s an ok refrigerator if you have less food refrigeration needs. I have to be honest and say it’s not large enough for us but it’s what we could afford/what fit in the space because it’s not big enough for a full size fridge. The only big issue I’ve had with it is that the spot for milk jugs has a removable bar that constantly comes out and breaks.
For a smaller household it would work fine though I think!

@@WithLoveKristinaok I was afraid of that, but when we get a new fridge I'm going to have more room so can have it as an immediate fridge in the kitchen (milk, eggs, current libations, cheese, tonight's dinner ingredients etc) and a bigger one in the garage for bulky things. Thank you so much for your time and trouble. You are such an inspiration and helping me clean and organize my mess.

@@athenathegreatandpowerful6365 I also have this fridge! It's pretty good, a bit small like she said. I would like to mention that while I really recommend it at its price point by virtue of what a fool proof simple model it is (It has 4 parts, the simplest fridge ever built) It does not have an evaporator or de-icing cycle built in like many large full size models, so periodically you will have to clear out your freezer and leave the fridge portion running to deice your freezer. Also because it's design is a chest fridge that has been stood up you should aviod putting really warm stuff in bc the cycle will take too long to regulate down again, bc all the cold is on the back wall and there are no fans.

Crumbs all over the floor means you had food to give your children. Piles of laundry mean you have plenty of clothes to wear. Dirty pots and pans means you have a space capable of cooking hot, safe meals for your family. Tripping over toys means your kids have lots of fun things to play with. I say all the time that gratitude is the key to happiness! You are doing a great job!!!

I raised 5 kids. A lot of work to say the least. One day husband came home from work and I was crying. I said,I got nothing done around this house today! All I did was take care of this sick baby. My husband said, so you mean to tell me all you did all day was to take care of our sick child!? Yes, I wept. He said, WELL I GUESS YOUR DAY WAS A COMPLETE SUCCESS! It changed my attitude forever. 💙💚✝️💜

You have great priorities and your husband is absolutely correct. Homemaking has too many jobs and it's great that your husband recognized this. Be kind to yourself and call a caregiving service and find out how much people pay for homemaker services. You are worth a lot of money and that does not include all the unconditional love that no one can ever pay for, but desperately needs.

I just found your channel last week. Im 61 and have ADHD. In 2018 i had a life threatening illness that i mever fully recovered from. So keeping house is an absolute mountain for me to climb. Things had gotten so bad i was starting to feel like a hoarder. I cried every day. Since i found your channel, i have washed 3 weeks worth of dishes, cleaned off my kitchen table which i jadnt seen the top of in months, put weeks worth of laundry away, vacuumed 2 rooms, and have cooked dinner nearly every day. I can barely walk and have to take frequent breaks, but the satisfaction is overwhelming. You dont fully know what you are doing here. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. ❤🍓

35 years ago I nursed an elderly German lady who told me the secret to having a constantly clean, tidy home was to TOTALLY clean one room each day. This included wiping down doors, walls and windows etc and tidying cupboards and wardrobes. After that she went on to cooking and washing etc. The next day she would totally clean a different room. I wish I had taken that advice on board! Ignore the nay-sayers, you're doing a wonderful job. I only had two children and found it overwelming. Thank you for sharing this video. Lots of love to you and your family. P. S. I love Dean Martin too! Love yourself for the great job you do 💕💖🌹🌹

    • @claremiller9979
      @claremiller9979 2 місяці тому +6

This is similar to advice I read in an 80s book called the Messy Manual, which she called the Mt Vernon Method - because it's how the cleaners at the historical residence there keep it clean. They start at the door of a room and clean around it, moving around/into the room. They stop when they run out of time for the day, and start again in the same place. Obviously they aren't doing dishes or laundry, which you'd add into your "time allowance", but it means they know what's been cleaned and by the time they get back to it next time it's probably not that dusty or dirty anyway.
      It's a bit like painting a bridge 😅

Your home is so cozy. I love the lived-in vibe. So many youtubers are into the boring beige or super sterile personalityless style that their homes look like sad showrooms. Your home has so much personality and tells a story of a life well lived. Your kids are definitely going to look back on their childhood with warm nostalgic feelings when they grow up.

Me too! Oh and we had a list of chores that we had to do everyday.. it didn't matter if we were tired or ill. Although I think it taught me some important lessons, I couldn't help but feel envious of my friends who had childhoods. They got to either hang out with each other afterschool or work on their homework. Funnily enough when I first moved out at 18, my place was a complete mess. All those years of being so rigid I just let it all go when I finally had freedom. Now I keep on top of cleaning but being so hard on ourselves is not healthy.

My mom had OCD, she followed behind you with a rag if you got a drink from the fridge in case you , NO even if you didn’t make a spill she wiped the counter, THAT was the ONLY thing you could do in the kitchen, I was an only child and my dad WORKED, and as I have found out recently ( she has Alzheimer’s now) that he worked as NOT to be HOME, my father was a Wonderful provider, we were NOT poor, I was
Spoiled because my mothe wanted to keep appearances, BUT, I was NEVER taught anything, I couldn’t cook, I may make a mess, I couldn’t do laundry, I might ruin something, i couldn’t get a job, she didn’t want me that far away, I drove to school BUT, we only lived 2 blocks away in a very small town and she stood at the end of the driveway in her nightgown and made sure I turned into school, she also smacked me and dug her nails into me regularly , called me a slut ,but I never went ANYWHERE without her, I HATED “ HOME” and her, my grandfather died when I was 18 , he was my protector and a second dad , as mine hated HOME as well, thought I was being well taken care of, my mother was a manipulative woman, and I was assured he was OK with her treatment of me, again, as of recently, I’m 58, he just found out about her treatment of me, I moved in with my grandmother, started learning to cook, do laundry and got a job, met my husband 2 months later … I SWORE, MY HOME would never be like that, my son had a vastly different childhood, and I hope he would say , he loved HOME!! These children LOVE HOME, rich or poor, and they don’t know which one they are, they know they are lLOVED and that means they are
      millionaires!!!

I’m just halfway through the video but I had to comment at what you said about 17 mins in. I find it ridiculous that people comment ‘just being a mom’ , as if growing babies and raising them well isn’t work. It’s hard and relentless work, beautiful and precious work too. I know lots of moms work outside the home as well as doing so much in the home and they are incredible women. And the moms that stay at home with their children all day and work hard within the home are incredible women! I believe that anyone who has a child and is putting effort in to raising them well, work hard.

I left my faith, and have no interest in returning. It holds a lot of trauma for me. I usually need to distance myself from anyone who has a visible faith that they discuss. Even if they are not being toxic, it brings up a lot of memories that are toxic and harmful.
But something in me healed a little bit when you said "the Proverbs 31 woman worked."

This is the real relatability we need to see more of on social media. I can look at the not social media ready nature of my own home and…accept that that’s real life. The not applying shame to mess is so freeing! Such incredible points made here. Cleanliness combined with design are often associated with competence, laziness vs protectiveness and charm. But…we need to be careful with these constructs we devise. But God’s view and intention for us. It’s so freeing to be made aware and not feel like your home is controlling YOU. Yes, Queen! My takeaway from your wonderfully soothing video is to find what works for you and do it. I no longer have the health to clean all day, so I tend to clean as I go, except for the Kitchen. I love to clean the kitchen and make it clean and bright. This may have something to do with having some issues with OCD. I need to clean to have a calm mind. Your house is filled with love, and this is the most important thing.

Can I make an aside comment? I mean it in the most positive & respectful way. Can I say that I really appreciate the way you wear varied necklines? I haven’t noticed before. But, I have been on a modesty deconstruction journey, and it is just so nice to see another mom (esp one I respect) be comfortable with herself just living her life and doing work in a lovely frock that makes her feel happy. Just living your life, ya know? I hope you aren’t hearing me say you’re immodest - that’s not what I mean at all. It’s just a moment of reassurance for me that modesty can mean a lot of things, and it’s safe to try out variations on this theme.

hahaha sometimes I remind myself that Jesus didn't say "if a woman causes you to stumble, tell her to cover up". He said "if your eye causes you to stumble, rip it out"
      ;) pretty good verse, that.
But yes, I've had a long journey of deconstructing modesty culture. I grew up in a fairly neutral way with modesty but was still taught that I needed to cover up in order to keep men from sinning. And since then have realized the only thing the bible says about *Dressing* for modesty is "don't show up for worship dressed fancy just because you want attention". Otherwise, I believe all the things about modesty pertain to the heart, and how we treat others!

I have adult ADHD too and I am often very scattered. One thing that helped me was using a basin for dirty dishes rather than using the sink. That way if I need the sink I can remove them. With the dishes contained, it just helps me feel more in control. I discovered it when we were remodeling the kitchen and I had to do dishes in a bar sink. The basin helped me so much then that I kept using it when we got our new remodeled kitchen- the one I waited for my entire life. It might not help you but the idea might help someone. After going through many plastic basins, I now use a stainless steel one, and put a rubber mat under it to protect my sink. Thank you for the cleaning tips. I will try it out, especially the hush one.

Your videos are a godsend. Three years ago, over the span of about six months, I lost my health, moved, got demoted, the love of my life passed, and then lost my job. Needles to say, I'm still recovering. My babies are all grown, but your videos help me to recall my own childrearing years and the joy I found there, and help me to remember it's still worth making a house a home, filled with love and new meaning as I continue on. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please keep doing what you're doing. ❤️

We struggled financially a lot but it was very worth it! I will never regret my choices. Hello. I am a 67 yr old granny in NE Texas. I found you today as i am getting over first spell of vertigo and having so many scans and tests done in hospital to find most likely caused my inner ear problem, so thankful all the major organs that could cause vertigo are not the cause. Back to reason i wanted to comment.. i have mad(awesome) respect for you and how you and hubby are living your life. I only have 1 grown son and 4 grandchildren. My son used to ask me when he was young what would i do if i had more children, i told him i probably would be baldheaded from pulling my hair out. I was a working single mom our whole lives he was growing up. So my hat is off to you, your doing a fantastic life. I also came to realize my limitations in doing it all could not be perfect but i would get to those other things i wanted to get done in the home when i was more able and time permitted. Loving and caring for your family is the most important at the end of the day. My favorite style for women was the 1930's. Your a lovely young woman and thank you for sharing. I am sure your posts will help other young women in their lives in some way. Good luck with your writing of novels. God Bless you and yours.

I love your house. It's comfy and homely. My 2 grandmothers were very different. One was more closer to minimalist the other had stuff. The one with the house full of stuff was the one who's house felt like home. It felt comfy. It was the one the kids ran around in. As a kid I loved going through Grandmas china and looking at the designs on the plates. Sitting under her antique table and running my hands over the nobbly legs. My other grandmother we had to sit. Even as kids. Give me a house with stuff any day. It tells the story of the persons life. It's fun to look at if your a visitor and it can start a conversation

🌹You are a lovely inspiration to so many! “The days are long, but the years are short “ is a message that I think of so often. I wish I had heard it when my children were little and I stayed home with them. It was a never ending job being a stay at home mama. But I was and still am SO very thankful that God made a way for me to do this, because we can’t put a price tag on our family life. Thank you for sharing your faith in the story of the Proverbs 31 woman. You are a lovely example of her. I’m in my mid sixties now and look back on my years past with gratitude and yet regret for many things I have done and things that I have not done. Well said about the Proverbs 31 wife. Many seem to misunderstand traditional in this regard, especially as of late and with what’s trending. I had been planning on sharing such things too. To me, cleaning as I go means while I’m in the space, I keep my feet planted and take care of cleaning up the mess I’m making as I’m creating. Dinner for instance will be cooking and then I wipe up my mess and do the few dishes I made before leaving the space or room. Of course never leaving a room empty handed helps me to not waste a trip I’m making anyway. You do a great job as a mom of 5 no matter your method and you certainly have a lovely, curated aesthetic that’s uniquely you🌹

I never thought I could get items that I don't need out of my home, but I have changed the way I think about stuff I don't need. I finally, after 30 years, removed things I inherited when my mother passed away, and because I don't sew, I got rid of buttons and sewing items she coveted. Made me feel better instantly, now on to the rest of my house clearing.

as a mom of 3 with adhd, i also have a really hard time staying on task. I found a method that has been very helpful for me is putting all my cleaning supplies on a tiered cart. Top level has supplies, second one has all rags, mop heads etc and bottom level is reserved for “put backs” (random lego in kitchen, hair brush in play room etc). i’m using one of those 3 tiered hobby things on casters, mine used to house all my children’s diapering supplies but i found this has been a much better use of it. anyways, as im watching this i see you have a basket you use, haha. Concerning your cat: our grandson brought home a distressed pregnant female, who had her litter soon after. I made an appointment to get her spayed, but as with what happened to you, she got pregnant again before I expected it ("they" say to have them spayed after they stop nursing, but she never did). She's now been fixed and 2 more pregnant females (strays) had litters. We're in the process of getting them all fixed. Sadly, it takes about 45 days to get it done after calling the vet for an appointment. God bless you and your kind heart......Carla H.

As with all your other cleaning videos, I appreciate how real you keep things and how honest you are about things you struggle with. I so enjoy seeing you go through all the tasks one by one. It’s incredibly satisfying and relaxing and I’m always inspired to get on top of things I’ve let go for a bit.
I am a huge believer in doing what works for you rather than a more rigid one-size-fits-all approach. We are all different and there is more than one way to keep house. The goal is to have a clean home (as much as is possible with a busy life and little ones) that is a safe, comfortable, and happy place for your family. It’s an ongoing process not a one time fix. There will always be times when we need to do a reset, right? That’s life.
I was interested in what you said about not cleaning as you go. I can totally see how that makes sense for you and especially like the analogy of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. I definitely understand where you are coming from.
The only thing I slightly differ on…mostly because of my anxiety…is that I always dealt with clutter throughout the day. Not the cleaning part so much, just the “actioning” of items that I could see were starting to pile up. This is not judgement at all. The piling up of things more than the cleaning aspect is what would overwhelm me and send my anxiety through the roof. My brain could deal more with doing large cleaning tasks all at once more than seeing stuff accumulating on what I always called “catch all” areas.
Please don’t think I treated my house like a museum, though. I definitely wasn’t that strict about everyday items being left out which were actually being used like a few kids toys, a cup of tea, a project in progress, or a book someone was reading.
Anyway, please keep making content like this. It’s so enjoyable to watch and I truly think it helps people.

I know this is an older episode, but i just discovered your channel and have been binge watching. Im going through a particularly hard season, and this episode specifically resonated with me. Being in a fixer upper house, stay at home mom, and someone who tries to also be as the prov 31 woman, i dont feel alone in my journey when i watch your vids. My anxiety and depression over time has manifested in physical issues over the last two years, and im trying to reset myself and have a different outlook on things and take things slower. My heart always races thinking i need to have my fixer upper perfect now, the if you give a mouse a cookie analogy is exactly me, everything looks like so much and being that my husband is gone a lot because of the military, i get into my head a lot. I know i need to do better for my children, and you gave great encouragement and practical ways to focus on making your home that safe haven for the family, and make it work for you. I hardly even know myself and my style anymore, and so when i saw your vid where you redid your kitchen, it inspired me to continue working on mine and actually try enjoying it and figure out what i like again. Thank you for this content.

I just love this video and will be rewatching/listening as it feels like I have you encouraging me while I do stuff along side you❤️❤️❤️❤️

I was a mum of 5 boys , I always did my cleaning , washing & prepping meals for the next day as soon as my boys were bathed & settled in bed around 7:30/8:00pm
Leaving the next day largely free to to take care f the young ones that’s were not at school
By doing things this way I found that I had more free time to pick up little jobs around the house here & there.

Thank you for this. As a mom of 2 neurodivergent boys and a husband who is also (I probably am also I've not been tested) Cleaning is a struggle for me. I also have physical problems which often feeds my procrastination. Your channel has helped me in starting to make our home a space of claim. We are also financially struggling and help knowing we are not alone in the struggle. :)

Absolutely love that your home is full of love and the way you explain how our homes are to be used to fit us articulates the perfect home. Love watching your videos and God bless you and your family and thank you for creating one of the most realistic life of a loving home that characterizes the type of home that any child would thrive in because it is based in love and acceptance.

I was reading a book and it was very helpful, it’s called cleaning at the speed of life, it’s not just a cleaning book but a decluttering book too, she talked about how she would have to do layers of cleaning. Like she had to first go through piles of stuff and put it back in the right places, than go through piles of mail that needed sorting keep/trash etc. than she would finally get to cleaning after those things. She goes through how prioritizing what’s most important is key, balancing clutter along with family things etc.
I had a home like yours, filled to the brim with things, cute things, memory keepers, pictures, an over abundance of clothing (some never worn or not worn in years). I say this all not to be negative but I had no idea the decluttering would drastically cut down my cleaning time and create more time for family. At the end of the day clutter isn’t necessary to have but your family and time with them is.
If you de cluttered 50% of your things you would see how amazing it is to let go of things and it’s very freeing, you also have way more time with your family.

I love watching you pick up and clean. It’s so artistic. I see all the patterns and colors and I feel like I’m back in time. I don’t know if it would work for you but we started keeping the kids clothes permanently in the laundry room. We have a tall closet but a bookcase could work. So there’s no carrying things to the room. With five kids and you both there has to be a lot of laundry lol. Thank you for doing all that you do.

I love your videos, and I love your house and where it is. It’s so pretty with all the trees and birds. Everything you do I admire and I like how you find time to look nice everyday.
I love being at home and keeping it looking nice, living simply, cooking and baking, I’m a nana now with 7 grandchildren who visit a lot ❤
