    Next time, you can use a screwdriver to jam as much wet rag into the overflow as you can. Then holding it will be easier

      Never give up. I always had a backup plan, but this is so nice when I don't have to get dirty.

    I have this exact reoccurring problem! AND...have had that nasty backwash spray in my face and all over the wall too! A Wet towel is the answer! Bring that Milwaukee Air Snake to my House please Elite Handyman 911! Im just Elite Handy-MOM surviving with DIY!

    Yeah, I think the problem to keep an eye on is to not just push that clog intact on down the line where it may hit the larger main line and then just present as a successively "cleared clog" but then get hung up on a tree root that has infiltrated the main sewer line.
    That clog of hair and soap and toothpaste scum then starts building a new clog in the main line. At least with an actual cable drain snake, you have a much vetter chance of breaking up or pulling out the actual clog and thus lessen the odds it will cause a new clog further down the line.

      Valid point, however the mains deal with large waste all the time. a 1-1/4" clogged lavatory line will not clog a 4"-6" main. If you have tree roots in your main that's a different problem.

      Not really, but you do have to use common sense and not over pressurize.
