I put the machine into reverse and give a light spin when installing cables. Then push in by hand without power. I never use power feed, that always kinks cables. Better feel by hand using lock open. Owned machine since 2017, used weekly.

I like both snakes. That Ryobi has impressed me, I would certainly consider that tool if I was looking to buy a cordless snake.

I have the m18 and the action to feed gives me problems a lot too but the snake does work most of the time I am sure I have worn it down a bit and twisted it wrong a few times but its easy to do. Keep the videos coming!

Thanks dude I really appreciate it 🙏 yea I've been usually the crap out of the ryobi when I can the m18 is so bulky but it's definitely longer

I just bought the m18 drain snake auger kit from home depot. Came with the 5/16 inch cable, just installed the 1/4 inch cable. The twist collar feed mechanism is finicky af brand new right outta the box. Gotta twist it just right or it cross threads and/or doesn't feed/grab properly. Still worth the purchase price considering the cost of hiring a drain company and the pain of doing it with hand tools.

Have you ever had the cover off the drum? There should be a correct direction to coil the cable back in.

I just saw this video, and i was wondering how long did it take for your snake to get fixed.

Probably 2 months lol or longer, I knew it was going to happen. That's why I bought a cheap Ryobi to hold me over. Which I fell in love with lol

Take off the front to install cable correctly. Milwaukee snake is killer compared to the Ryobi. Ive been plumbing a long time...ask any questions you need. I dig yr channel.
Also...its better to feed the cable by hand instead of auto feed function. You can get a better feel for it after some practice.

I just tried feeding it by hand today thanks!! I just love the auto feed but I can't have everything. I am always open to suggestions, anyway to make my life easier and get the job done faster. Thanks I appreciate it 🙏

I've got a question for ya, if you have the time. Why does my cable keep getting tangled up inside the drum? My old cable was getting tangled up (basically tying its self in a knot inside the drum), rusty and kinked so I replaced it with a brand new one. Now the new one keeps getting tangled up in the drum, I can't even get 6' out, whether using auto-feed or pulling it out by hand :(

@@impetus444 You have the Milwaukee drill snake? What size cable are you using? Is it lubricated?
First make sure you are putting it in the correct direction, second try pulling it out without using the trigger... Should come out easy. Third, if it starts to kink at all it will bind up on you.

You need to put a bend about 10-12 inches back from the end of the cable when you start to feed it into the drum. That helps. Plus it helps to know when you get to the end of your cable when you’re shaking a drain so you don’t pull it all the way out. You’ll feel that bend and know you’re close to running out of cable

A kink at about four inches (or 10-12 like you said) from the end helps with feeding the new cable into the drum and painting the cable at about 2’ to 3’ from the end gives you a visible warning that you are near to the end.

@@kirttiessen6878 nope I don’t buy Milwaukee cables. They rust up too quick. I prefer General, Ridgid, or Spartan cables

@@tannerwest6823 that would explain it the bulbs are handy there’s two one about ten feet from the end and one about a foot if my memory serves me correctly but I do find my cables rust after a while was thinking about buying this m18 drum snake as my m12 works mint but they just discontinued it I guess

The cable goes in much easier if you put a little bend on it

1,4 to 1/2 bend at end to start it in, then throw cable on ground

I don't buy ryobi anything after I had a planer literally break mid job then read the warranty how to claim on their website and I was like f that.

I usually have good luck with ryobi but I don't buy high priced ryobi stuff and a planer is definitely not cheap. I usually buy them when they r on clearance or a super good deal. So I won't be heart broken when they bust
