Roman You came to a full stop 8 times in 2 truck lengths. How is the Santa Cruz supposed to go if you keep stopping? It's a pass of the course and fail for the driver.
@@yissibiiyte You can defeat almost any vehicles traction system if you drive it in a fashion tondo just that. TFL is a fun bunch of guys, but they often through bias, whether conscious or not, drive cars in a way to get the result they want or expect.
If you turned your front wheels left and right you would have been fine. That was a complete lack of driver knowledge unfortunately and it causes people to hear incomplete information like this. I could have gotten through that with a front wheel drive Ærostar
I have the same truck without the turbo; it was tremendous out in winnemucca NV all dirt roads nothing to crazy. I can't wait to see you guys get the base powertrain with AWD. Love the content.
True, but companies are selling these vehicles as "off road" ready or giving them trims that are supposedly good to go off road so TFL tests them from the factory that way.
Roman has always annoyed the hell out of me. From his constant spewing of misinformation, to his subpar driving skills. I only started watching anything TFL related because of Nathan, Andre, and Emmy.
It sounds like the boost pipe is off. I got one as a rental that was slow as balls and made the same turbo noise. When I checked under the hood one of the boost pipes and blown off. Instantly felt like a different vehicle after putting it back on
Seems like that awd that works from fwd would be weaker for off-road and for hauling/towing as well. Real trucks are rwd for a reason, because the bed/rear is meant to be the part that gets loaded down with weight.
Put Nathan in the seat and watch it conquer! Roman you purposely fail everything that isn’t a Ford Raptor or Jeep Wrangler Rubicon no matter the ease or angle of trail. I’m sick of it.
Roman drives cars in a way to get the result he wants for the video. I've seen them make certain cars look like they could barely drive up a steep paved driveway, then you see other cats on UA-cam taking them up mountain trails with loose rocks and dirt with only minor trouble. TFL is a show, entertaining but not always objective.
I was just waiting for that dual clutch transmission to overheat, and the clutch packs to get roasted. Why did they put one in the vehicle. Why not just do a traditional automatic on all trim levels, instead of just the base engine?
It’s too bad that this guy doesn’t know how to drive But he blames the truck for getting stuck. He could’ve easily kept accelerating out of the ditch and not let off the gas like he did.
I mean it’s good for like 90% of people who get them. Nobody is really going to be off roading most the time. I test drive one for the heck of it. I thought to myself, yes granny will love this little car/truck/suv thing. 👍
This segment of 'pick up' car/truck confuses me. What in the hell is the cargo area any good for? My size 15 running shoes would have to go in sideways!
Hole issue is its dual clutch not. Regular torque converter transmission. Bad lock up = overheated transmission. Nothing 4wd by Hyundai or Kia is off road worthy.

No truck will clear this the way you're driving 😂
Man seriously. A good driver could even get a hatchback out of that.
gets stuck burns it down oof
I thought the same tbh it’s not really a off roader
It’s clearly not designed for serious off roading.
But also you’re clearly purposefully driving poorly in an effort to get it stuck.
He does that with everything that isn’t a Ford Raptor or Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Put Nathan in the seat, he’ll get it done! ✅
Lol he definitely stopped the momentum of the truck.
Because with enough momentum you can drive a civic up that. Its to test the awd system so not cheating with momentum right.
This channel sucks. The presenters suck. No wonder brands refuse to work with them.
Watching them drive this hurts. Makes me think they are paid by ford.
Would be better with all terrain or offroad tires. Those are straight up street tires.
that's a stock vehicle though
@@HSstudio.Ytchnnlno joke but any smart person trying this would put real all terrain tires on it

I was going to say this, it is a great test of how the car would do with someone that has 0 off-road experience driving
Yup, this is what's happens when you expect the car compensate for drivers incompetence 🤷♂️

The locker on SUV/CUV based AWD systems only locks the clutch pack between front and rear, it is not a diff locker.
Exactly. And even if the button is never pressed, the system is smart enough to know to distribute torque 50/50 front back anyways.
I think it also brakes the slipping wheel kinda like a locker in terms of result kinda
Who tf would drive like that if they're seriously trying to through this
Your driving technique is what got that vehicle stuck. A little momentum would have gotten you through.
It's called a "test". The whole point was to see how the vehicle's traction control worked in sticky situations.

I’ll be picking up mine tomorrow here in Reno and taking it out to see what it can do.

Talk about getting a vehicle out of its element. I'm surprised it did as well as it did.
Needs real tires and no problems

Calls that button a locker. Still calls the G80 a limited slip and "Auto 4wd" AWD...
That vehicle looks so Fragile !!!
Honestly this is about what I expected after Nathan and Andre put it head to head with the awd Maverick and it was really struggling
Locker locks you in place 😂😂
smaller rim biger AT tire can do good stuf

The Santa Cruz engine sounds rough and really clattery. Is this a 2022?
They only have a 2022 and 2023 rn
Probably the dual clutch you here clattering
Why doing this? This is not a truck, I love mine and wouldn't do this to it, don't have a clue what is he trying to acomplish
Sounds like you need to put premium gas in that thing. Sounds like it's piston slapping.
I would have backed up and picked a different line.

Years from now I'd like to see a prerunner made out of it
I concur... The Santa Cruz has a locker button that is worth trying

If I recall correctly the best of these systems is Bronco Sport. Hope you guys can get one to test on the new course.
What octane gas did you use ? Hear detonation
Quite a bit of it
They’re at a high elevation so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone filled it up with 85 octane instead of 87 to save a few bucks.
Should be using 92/93 for a turbo. I always did with my Focus ST and it has similar engine outputs for a 4 cylinder. You got optimal power that way.
Looks like highway car tires also
It sounds like the boost pipe is off. I got one as a rental that was slow as balls and made the same turbo noise. When I checked under the hood one of the boost pipes and blown off. Instantly felt like a different vehicle after putting it back on

Not a locker.
There should cheap crossover challenge where everyone has $5k or so to buy used AWD crossover/wagon ect. and take it off-road

My real question if why TFL bought the higher trim one? I think everyone is more interested in the base awd capabilities.
It sounds like junk. Looks cool though.

It’s most likely the tyres on the car a set of KO2/ maybe work better
