I've had this for 5+ years and it's a pure bundle of joy.
That guitar is a fucking beast. I tried almost every guitar in the thomann show room and thus Ibanez blew em all out of the water. When played with a lot of gain makes your amp explode, it's so great. Really open sounding with a lot of bite.
I got the last "B-stock" RGAT62 from Kirstein as soon as Ibanez decided not to sell them any longer. I named my Ibbi "Blaue Elise" and I love this Instrument. Feel, Sound and overall handling is very good. I am glad to own one. Plug her to Laney Ironheart or Blackstar HT - happy with the tone. Maybe you bought the one from Thomann at my watchlist ;-)
Dude yeah i got this guitar in winter and its really good for the price and im sad that pretty much nobody has reviewed it but here you are reviewing it
Great demo best I have seen so far ,so cool the play through different awesome amps thanks bud.
I own this Guitar, i bought it in October last year. Love it.
I was vacillating over a few different guitars around this price and literally bought it after watching this review. It arrived today. Thanks.
Holly SH***T I was looking for this guitar for months and now you make a review. Awesome
SAME!! Im getting mine in a few weeks. And it sucked to not really have a decent review. I couldn’t be happier.
Same!
This is going back to guitars made by Matsumoku for Aria etc in the late 70's / early 80's with the 5 piece thru neck, string thru, wing body design. Cool to have modern hardware on what I thought was an underappreciated design.
I'm getting this one in a week, glad to hear I've made a good choice
Do you like it still ? How is the guitar holding up
Ppl always say, that's it, I'm buying it tomorrow. Maybe a quarter do...
@@adityaanand3017 didn't get a notification, in case you're still wondering: it's great
Found one of these today crammed into a guitar rack at a pawnshop. Had 2 broke strings and was marked at $125.00. You can't even get the pickups for that! Had to buy it. Got it home and plugged it in. .. Holy Sh!t!! It has this glorious dark smokey tone! Even has upgraded locking Gotoh tuners. SCORE!!
Sounds great through the or15 but then so does everything 😍
Beautiful guitar! I have just discovered your channel and a big thanks to Steve from Boston for that I think. Lots to watch so.... oh....Love your South Boston accent! Later....
Beautiful sounding and looking guitar for a great price!!!!!.....nice vid!!!!......
Just picked one up for my friend. It is a great deal. If it has the dimarzio's. I haven't fiend that far in the vid but it looks like the same guitar. Unfortunately the sales guys liked it to and tweaked the neck out of control. Almost thought I'd break it relieving the neck (I did the set up.) but in the end it worked out fine. Also seems they had a log pot in the volume which my buddy wants changed to linear. Imo it should be. Maybe they installed the pots backwards on this particular one.
Looks a decent bit of kit for the money, was just checking these ones out in the past few weeks on Thomann
Meranti actually are Malay word. Meranti wood are always use in furniture making and traditional house in Malaysia because it can survive humidity and hot weather here.Furniture that been made by that kind of wood are actually a bit pricey because of its toughness. BTW that is a nice guitar.
Nevertheless real mahogony is better
@@ArnulfVonMetz1 if you plug that in amp sims, Line6, Boss Katana, that guitar (even an Ibanez Gio) would sound like a 2 grand Ibanez.
Thx for the info!
pls do a review of the "Keith Merrow Km7- and Km6- MK-3 Standard" would be great to see your thoughts on these one. much love
You have a delightful personality
I got an RGRT 421 on the cheap. Also a string thru, but has a reverse headstock. The nut is plastic I believe on you RGAT, so throw a graphtech nut on and some locking tuners and this guitar should serve anyone well for years.
About Ibanez trems in the lower price point: In the cheapo guitars with the Edge Zero II, one can expect a solid trem. The Lo-TRS II is crap, the Edge III is crap, the Edge Pro II is crap. But the Edge Zero II is as solid as a trem can get. It also has the locking studs inside the trem posts which make it the most stable trem system in any non-high end guitar. The Edge Zero II is so good that Ibanez offers it in their Premium guitars. Henning can further testify how good the trem in the 1970PBS is. And if you lock the studs inside the trem posts, the tuning is absolutely SOLID.
Saarang Narayan can confirm on the Lo-TRS II. I’ve got an RG320 with that trem and it’s so awful I just hardtailed it.
Good to know . Thank you.
I absolutely agree. I have the rg350mz and it came with edge zero 2 bridge. Got it brand new from music store for $300. The only thing I'm not crazy about is zero point system and the wheel in the back. The rg that came after and which was made only for a year or two has the edge zero but regular springs in the back w/o zero point system. That's the one I wanted and it's called rg450m. The new rg's have a new DL bridge, whatever it means, but what sucks on it is the tuners stick out a lot more and can hit a player in the palm. So I prefer low profile bridges like edge zero 2.
I've played this at guitar center 3 times, twice through a black star ht-40 and the tones were amazing for solos and for rhythm work. This one is a hidden gem.
FYI, another hidden gem and also rare like this Ibanez RGAT62, is LTD MH-327. It has neck through construction, awesome and fast neck, 27 frets on higher strings, and coil slitting for versatile tones, considering that it has Seymour Duncan Custom in the bridge, for metal and a slanted "single coil" Seymor Duncan Hot Rail in the neck for fat and creamy solos. Mess with the selector and and coil splitting to get cool strat sounds. Costs $350 used.
Only bad thing is that the LTD has only one version and it has a Floyd Rose which is the cheapest part of the guitar and has trouble staying in tune. I've owned 2. I would go out of tune somewhat often. The other one could not stay in tune to save it's life if u start playing hard and super bending strings. I even had a stop piece installed (150$) which prevented the Floyd from activating and it still would go out of tune(not as often, but more than seldom. My buddy bought one and put in an expensive Floyd and solved the issue.
One for they best person on yotube!
I Love your work!
I'm not joking. Danke schon
Ibanez branded floyd rose guitars in that price range stay really good in tune, I'd say try to get a few!
Hi, and thanks for your video which was a very summery and fun one. I don't know if it was the guitar, the amps, or your playing but it generally sounded great. I didn't like the sound of the Orange and the Revv with this guitar. I think all the other amps sounded superb. Not a metal shredder guitar to me, more like a nice overdrive with balance. I liked it. That's what about 800 bucks in the US, definitely worth it.
I like to hear dudes playing half remembered riffs. It reminds me of all the shit I can hardly play.
i really want your shirt, where do I get that from ? The guitar sounds absolutely sweet but hey, you're like, you, and you have this great playing and great gear so yeah :) i definitely wanna check out a neck through ibby thanks to your demo... even though i know i'll have to put in some vintage pickups in there because i'm basically crazy and stuff.
THANK YOU!!!
The guitar playing has been greatly improving Henning.
Hi Sir
....Have you ever played this guitar>>>>>Ibanez RGRT621DPB Electric Guitar Flat Blue Lagoon Burst
........If so did you recommend it........Thanks
I like it! And i don't like 'anything' (: String thru body, neck through, two of my favorite features. Hard tail, i like the way the head matches the body, i like the black hardware, i like that it's not too 'shiny' or 'fancy' the finish is not too glossy, (i think they call it a 'satin finish'(?) My Ibanez has this type of finish in mahogany color. i would like this guitar in mahogany/satin finish color, or maybe, even the blue, ... Does it have jumbo-frets? Sounded great thru that H&K, and through all of them really. I also like the rosewood fret-board, and dot layout
Thanks again Henny, for WASTING MY TIME! (:
I may get one of these at some point tho ! ..
Just picked one up its perfect, I prefer it even to prs
I have one. I like it quite a bit. What PRS are you referring to? I had a Tremonti se for a while and I really liked it, put a JB and and a jazz I believe in it. Sounded good. But, yeah, they are both great guitars, been a long time since I played the Tremonti so I was curious. Ibanez and the PRS se series have been good to intermediate poor schmucks like me.
You play very well.
That high pitched "I remembered" made my day even my month Lmao
My eyesight is horrible. Took me a while to get use to both the side dots and the neck dots on mine. Love it though.
i bought this guitar, surprisingly it has a lot of imperfections but i bought it anyways. The best part is the fret work and setup, the bridge radius/intonation/nut setup was perfect and the neck came straight. Only some buzzing at the very high frets but that's probably to be expected.
I also own this, otherwise the same but my guitar has black colour. Bought mine last december and it has been a really good friend of my amps (Fender bassbreaker 007, Marshall origin 20 and also mooer preamp live) I would say this giutar can do really alot of stuff so very versatile
14:35 "hmmmm can I play Smoke on the Water without it getting copy wright claimed?" hahahaha. Also I have this guitar in black and I love it.
Hey Stephen, i think to buy this guitar but i want to ask you a question. Can i get hard tones with this guitar? Clean tones are nice but i also want to a play Metal music. I would be if you answer, thanks.
Looks like that plastic nut gave you a little (but just a *little*) issue with tuning stability, but still better off than my Gibson SG special. Would swap that with a Graphtech nut and tuning machines but that's it.
Can you or anybody else comment on the frets?
Use one with floyd rose/edge tremolo whatever u call it
I have had this guitar for 2 years love it mine is mahagony ,and has rosewood finger board before cites thing got really full blown.
Tell me more about the guitar! Planning to pick one up in a couple of weeks
@@rohanjangam511 if I were you bud I would look for one with rose wood board 2017 year, moagany wings better looking guitar old new stock maybe pit bull audio I've seen them there great guitar man for the money demarzio pups are killer through Marshall 100 watt head this guitar rocks can't forget 4x12 cab or full stack,I would put locking tuners a must.
michael gallegos that’s exactly what I’m eyeing. I’ll be driving about 180miles to a shop which has the rosewood and mahogany one.
You put locking tuners on both? They’ve got bad tuning stability?
@@rohanjangam511 I play alot of lead stuff I am to aggressive at times lol ,need locking tuners, stock tuners not horrible, but not for my picking attack,I had to order mine from AMS.i live in the sticks, good luck man.
michael gallegos alright! I’ll upgrade them if they can’t hold tuning. Thanks a lot!
Can I get one with a trem?
Demon-etizing challenge, to boldly go beyond the "stars" where no man has gone before.
I believe all Ibanez models make you happy, no holds barred!
Logan Mader from machine head is playing this guitar in machine heads new studio series videos!
Just goes to say how good low/mid range guitars are these days, one does not need a 2000€ gibson or ESP to sound good. Less GAS and more practice youngsters... I personally sold a Gibson SG and i started using a cheap Yamaha Pacifica 311H as my main guitar, its a stunning and well made guitar loaded with features (Grover locking tuners, Graph Tech parts, a P90!) and costs 280€ (300$) new!
muy chida tu t-shirt!!!! me gusta. Saludos
Ayyy! Where's that pink wig?!! You gave me nightmares wearing it! The wig was flying around like one of the HK's from Terminator 2 and chasing me! You owe it to me to wear the wig! ;-) Oh, by the way, the guitar looks great!
Where did you get your bookshelf full of excellent amps? I'll take 2.
I am lending Henning that wall of amps......just sayin.
@@johnstitt2615 Lol if thats true ill say it again, ill take 2. How much for shipping d :
Henning showing us his latest italian shred machine.
This is my main guitar. Due to a back injury, I could no longer play my Les Paul Custom. This thing weighs 5 lbs and covers everything. It looks like a Metal guitar but covers classic rock and Jazz very well. (it's called EQ boys and girls) I play fingerstyle and prefer hotter pickups. My LP had DiMarzio Dualsounds. They stopped making this model. I hope they start again and market it to classic rockers. Does WAY more than Metal. STOP GOING BY LABELS AND LOOKS! Use your ears.
Good review, and yea, they really need to work on giving their guitars better names.
Bro, it took me a year to memorize this guitar's name (rgat62) like wtf, 😆
I bought this about 5 months ago for 500 blemished but new. I couldn't find the blemish and it's great. I only wish it had a reverse headstock.
I have one in my area available for $400 or best offer, Im thinking about getting it. The most expensive Ibanez Ive owned was a RG6003FM which I got used for $275 and loved. Should I go for it? Dude must need to sell because he has dropped it by $50 twioe since listing it over 6 months ago lol
@@alexanderwoodsum5486 I would do it asap if I was you.
@@alexanderwoodsum5486 I should point out that I play a lot of metal. I play in d standard and drop c most of the time, 11-56 strings. I play modern "djent" and old school thrash most of the time and it's through that scope that I'm judging this guitar. It sounds and plays great for my taste. It stays in tune better than any other guitar I've had and I was able to lower the action pretty low without horrible buzz. I'm used to having much more issues out of guitars. It's also the first neckthru I've owned and though I don't know how much that actually effects the outcome I am happy with it. The only issue I see with neckthru is if the neck breaks then so does your whole guitar.
@@SaintKines Man that is brilliant to hear, because I also play D standard and like to play lower tunings (though cheaper guitars have a tough time with them it seems). I write music I guess youd call prog rock metal alternative with classical inspiration. LOL I know, I know.
Yea I am going to jump on it as soon as my taxes Direct Deposit! 7 days and counting down! Its stayed available all these months I think it can wait another week for me :D
@@alexanderwoodsum5486 sounds like we probably play the same type of stuff. I think you'll be happy as long as it's in good shape. The pickups are petty good too. That's always a matter of taste but unless you really want actives or something I don't think you'll need to swap them.
This one or the Solar 2.6??
Yas another Ibanez!
I’ve just realised you’ve received low cost guitars before with trems and they have had issues so you didn’t review them LOL. Anyways this was good video beautiful bluey guitar nice
Unfortunately Ibanez now produced the RGAT62 with Meranti bodywood and Jabota fretboards
I picked one up at a store and the setup was near unplayable. It probably had been sitting on that shelf for ages tho, which is a shame because I never really got to properly try it
got mine and didnt like it at first but after playing for a while then setting it up i absolutely love it now
Literally the only guitar I want, I cant wait to leave job corps. I had to sell both my guitars to afford my living necessities while being here, but i'll be able to provide for me and my girlfriend with the education im getting here. Now if I can just get her to say yes after ( ;
If you're going to wear that shirt then you must wear a Sombrero while reviewing guitars. It's in the rule book, I checked.
Moin Henning is ne geile Gitarre ...
Very nice, would be so much nicer with a darker wood neck, guess it could be stained.
Ok. I was searching this model, came across this video, liked, subscribed and what else. I might buy that model (if it is not too late...).
Mad Waks i just bought this an hour ago, because of this video! Its not too late!
@@havardstre4269 that is nice. So how was it? Gotta play test it as soon as the lockdown cools down.

Mad Waks i got it today, plays smooth as butter. I can send you some demo vids along With my first imoressions if u want👍🏻
Anus Repair Man loves the first shirt.
The voices in my head seem to like the second shirt ?
viva los muertos idk Le espanish ???
I love that body sculpt of that beautiful blue thru neck beast.
I'm not a fan of the blue neck.. when you have the beautiful walnut lines.. why color it? I think it would have been more beautiful leaving the neck natural.
Agree but it's a minor thing
I love this guitar so much that I own two lol. And the camera is definitely undermining how beautiful is that blue.
Seb.37 two? Wow! Tell me more about these. I’m picking one up in a few weeeks time
@@rohanjangam511 great bargain of a guitar! What do you wanna know?
Seb.37 build quality, versatility of sounds.
Also, what were the other options you were considering when you got this? What made you choose this one?
@@rohanjangam511 build quality is acceptable, nothing negative that I can point out. The in between sounds provide great versatility..add some boost and it does really sound like a single coil. For metal though the DiMarzios might sound a bit flat if that makes sense, but still acceptable.
At first I was going for the RGRT421 I think cuz I was on a budget, but the RGAT62 just felt a LOT better to play. Also even when I was able to spend more, the more expensive Ibanez models didn't have the exact specs. I need the tone knob for versatility for example and it seems to be missing from higher models, and so on in terms of features. Sorry for the lengthy reply lol but yeah
*more expensive Ibanez models I meant cuz I was looking for another Ibanez
What guitar player does not want to shred the hell out of smoke on the water? Hilarious! I always find myself making up words after I watch your videos. Nice guitar, locking tuners are in order. Yes, the model name is very military sounding as if Ibanez is selling jet engines.
Jatoba is Brazilian Cherry wood
This is one of the few Ibani you can pronounce the name of by heart.
This is the next guitar i'm looking to get next.
Same
@@vladionescu8222 I actually got it a few weeks ago, and freaking love it. I made a cover from bfmv, hand of blood if you wanna check it out. It's on my youtube channel.
@@Mudamaza really? I'm 14 and I have to pass my exams first to get it :( but I'll check put your cover, I wanna hear how it sounds
That song seemed familiar, until I realised I knew it from NFS Most Wanted 2005 lol
I just bought the blue lagoon one that cost a little more
the only thing i would do to this guitar is stain the fretboard, its to bright
When a guitar is bright like this one the best way to deal with this problem is to turn the treble knob down.
@@ericdenton3457 i was talking about the actual color of the fretboard, not the tone.

RGA=RG with an Arch top
Really? Didn't know that lol thanks
I have an Ibanez AZ and even it's trem won't stay in tune lol
For real? That’s so annoying!!
I just saw a whole review of the AZ on here devoted, more or less, to that topic. You are not alone apparently. I have the Rgat62. Everyone on here says it needs locking tuners, I never thought it did, but now I have to get them. Power of suggestion. Lol. Not really, locking tuners are always a good step up. Thanks for sharing about the AZ, I was dreaming of getting one.
You can't expect better names on that price range
I have this guitar. It can't handle low tuning as well as it should
Have you tried different gauges, using your volume and tone knob, pickup height and most importantly reintonating with the new tuning/gauges? Honestly just curious I've never played this guitar.
Then get it set up to handle lower tuning. It comes set up for regular tunings because why wouldn't it?
@@michaelinglis8516 Exactly. I keep mine in drop c most of the time with 11s plays like a dream. Volume and tone knob!!!
@@michaelinglis8516 Yes ,first thing came to mind was drop the pickups a little....
why are all guitars just either blue, green , yellow, imo they look really bad, is it to mask the bad quality of the woods around these times?
At least the guitar comes with half decent pickups for the price
@@ha-qw4rm My point being is they could have gone with their own low-end infinity pickups to save money but gave you dimarzios instead.
@@ha-qw4rm It was a figure of speech.
@@ha-qw4rm up to you.
Wow! Better than Epiphone?! Neck through!
yeah the ibanez names are strange
Sounded a little out of tune or maybe the intonation needed to be set mainly at the beginning Edit:nope it was off the whole time, great video just sounded off? I'm on my Samsung galaxy so I could be wrong. I'll check it out again through my studio monitors or monitoring headphones later. That aside it's a killer finish and looks really comfortable to play.
Dare I say there’s better for the money. If you want an Ibby get a mint Genesis for around the same price (at least in the U.S.).
Genesis is great but when compared to buying new there are always better used deals. Assuming you're buying only new it's hard to go wrong with this one
Made in Indonesia ?
yes
Ah!....Henning. I see you found my blue guitar. Please return it. I need your boots, your clothes, and your motor.....I mean my guitar.
It's a Jabota Fretboard
quite 80s sounding guitar. not my cup of tea but definitely some folks will love it.
Ibanez and all the rest need to include at least a gig bag with ALL their guitars! Bulk cost for cheap gig bags would be less than $10 each? And I would be OK with them raising the prices $10 to cover them! Wake the fuck up guitar companies! 🎶🎸
530 dollars in 2019? They go for more used now, shocked
🎸👍👀👂
Spider?!!!
Is this phenomenonal value or what?!
The things I really care about, and nothing else - not even the things I kinda sorta want!
Gives the best neck heel available to man - and that's the #1 reason I'm seeking an Ibanez. I want a nice wizard neck with heel joint that's not like the insult my Fender Strat is!!
So wizard , thru, and 5 piece in maple and walnut - all the things I most desire in a neck!?
And then... just for good measure...at such a low price point, they throw in Ibanez's flagship pup's! What!?!
I'm so happy they're not quantum's! I would've had to have pushed up to the next price point if they were quantum's. And they absolutely should be, at this price!!
I'm gonna buy it before they realise their mistake! The dimazzio's alone must make up half the price, at least!
have you ever had a heart attack?
I hate how Ibanez doesn't keep producing the same guitars like Gibson and Fender do. I fell in love with a couple of Ibanez guitars that are now extinct. I don't like the new Ibanez shape and hardware style.
Agree. i'm looking all black ibanez from Iron Label series, but is discontinued
Meranti to me sounds Asian, Malaysian.
Thumbs down for the spider. No one wants to see that except homicidal maniacs.
Ugly guitar. Would prefer just a solid color. Like the specs.
