I think I'm in the right place to ask a few questions. I've never really targeted Walleyes, usually catch them by accident. The other night I went out catfishing at a local lake that has good sized channel cats and was using live green sunfish. My pole got german suplexed and as I was reeling it in, I could tell that it wasn't a channel. I got it to the bank and there was a nice sized walleye on the end, weighed 8lbs. I catch them so infrequently that at first glance I thought I had a mutant bass on but nope, a walleye with a circle hook in it's mouth. I'm guessing walleye like their bait alive, so what would be some suggestions for bait? I'm also guessing most walleye fishermen don't use big circle hooks so what kind of setup should I be using?

It really depends on the lake your on. I catch them in the fall in 40 feet of water too. I rarely go less than 25 feet. I just pulled a 29" walleye out of 35'. Biggest thing is get ur butt out there and try. It's fun no matter what
