    Today we are back with another video on fall walleye fishing. Fall has officially showed up here in northern WI and the walleye know it. In this video we talk about where we are looking for walleyes in a lot of these northern style lakes. We also talk about one of the most productive ways to catch these fish all fall long.....the jig and minnow. This video contains a bunch of good jig fishing tips that will ultimately put more fish in your boat this fall. Thanks for watching!

    Lots of channels show you fishing. Many tell you what they're using. Some tell you why. Tom tells you HOW, when, where, why, etc. And it's entertaining to boot. Thanks Tom.

    Tom, you have raised the fisherman's IQ level with your divulging more on your techniques, methods and your overall caring for all of us walleye dudes. Your explaining is second to none. Would be really interesting to see some screen shots as to what the bottom looks like, small rock, chunk rock or rock transition area. Keep up the fantastic work.

    Great video, I'm from southern Manitoba Canada, walleye fishing dream, I like the information and techniques you teach, the blades work very well, I must say though, me personally dont like when i watch some videos and after catching, they just toss the fish from standing up in the boat, it can be hard on them, why not just lean over, get the fish nicely in the water and do a nice release!!

    Why the minnow and not the plastic? Most of your jig videos have the jerk bait on finesse and the paddle tail swim bait on active things.

    Rapala Jigging Raps work too but they are built to break. The clear tail is lightly glued on and the edges round off and it doesnt track good. The front hook at the face smashes the lake bottom when it lands and gets pushed in too much. Good luck bending it back out without snapping it off eventually. Could improve that with a better hook. I avoid Shad Rap lures too as the very end which would be the back fin, is thin and breaks when a fish slams it against the boat or floor. Rapala, built to break.

    Slow dragging jigs in the river is my go to. I’ll even throw a handful of plastics on the defroster when it gets real cold. Works pretty good hole to hole and if you use dip n glo you got custom colors no one else has and it really softens the plastics up after you dip them then oil them with mineral oil. I can get them just as soft as the Keitech without sacrificing strength of the plastic. The keitech has too much salt and they are too expensive. Take a rage swimmer and use my trick and they’ll be way softer.

    • @codybertram6122
      @codybertram6122 11 місяців тому

      And cadence for rivers is literally just a lift and drag. No need to snap when it’s cold the river current gives them plenty action and even have to switch to straight tails sometimes cause the paddle or twister can be too much at times

    I've only watched a couple of your videos. I'm just now learning to walleye fish, as I've never been anywhere with any population. As many videos as you have, I'd pretty much consider you an expert, given hours on the water alone. That being said, I've always been taught/told it's bad to contact any fishs' gills. I saw you grab under the gill plate, then release. Since it's apparently a misconception, could you address why?

    Good Morning Tom, I am working on an old cabin in western North Carolina... best part is, I am next to Glenville Lake. Learning from you about jigging and especially the Hyper-rattle, I look forward to lifting walleye into the boat on days I am not working. I have caught walleye already from Nantahala Lake, in this region. Glenville looks like it will be a good one. Thank you for showing me how to catch walleye this way. Right on, George.

      Other manufacturers produce long shank jigs and blade baits. Also you could use shiver minnows, jigging raps, or johnny darters if you dont want to use the hyper rattles. Very similar baits with different actions

      What you want is a 17lb stiff flouro leader 3’ combined with 7’ or more H rod fast or xfast tip
